Legend Event On Hallow Ground [Halloween Mini Event - Organic Woods - Malakath]

Staff Event Thread
With pure disbelief, Necro Lizard couldn't comprehend what he was seeing...

This 'thing' had basically mirrored the only advantage he held.

Looking around for any sort of back up, Necro Lizard could see some of his allies fleeing the area. With a defensive swipe at the attacking beast, he was able to jump on the back of his remaining bone creature and set haste on the trail to what he hoped to be safety.

The world grew silent, the very noise of the gloom and corrupted chorus coming to a screeching halt. The groans of the uninvited, the crackling of bone branches, the swinging of taught rope, the bubbling of blooded ravines. All removed from sound to be replaced by deafening silence. Those monsters who approached to attack Crux lumbered and came to a screeching halt, frozen in position and statuesque in their hunger for those things that didn't belong.

Lighting arched and branched out from the sky, illuminating the Organic Woods in a flash of azure. But that azure quickly shifted from purple and then to deep crimson, arching and curving around the red mist beacon. A loud animalistic screech could be heard, carried by an alien gust that ripped at the branches of the trees, sent the corpse ornaments of flutter, and spewed hot and humid air against the visitors who were fleeing the uninvited. At first, it wasn't audible, but the sound of metal plates against metal plates could be heard, followed by the rattling of vibrations through the ground.

"By the GODS!" A man screamed out, donned in full metal plate, as he ran towards them. "Run! It's awake! The
protector! It's coming!" A man with shear purpose and nothing else, he charged passed them, braking branches and clamoring along the way. Behind him, the vibrations and thudding grew to the point that it was as if it was on top of them, pulsing that could be felt through the core. Like being buffeted by gusts after gusts. And then it was there.

The shadow, a gargantuan lizard, charged passed them, gaining on the armored figure. As he cleared the area and approached Crux, the creature caught up to him and bit down with serpentine teeth and a mouth that was multiple times larger than its prey. Lifting him up to screams of anguish, it flung the armored figure into the sky as another lightning bolt crackled in the red aura, and caught him again.

"By...Ahh...The Gods!" The beast crunched down again. "Run...huuuuhhhhll...Runnnnnn!" The creature clenched down, splitting the stranger in two, ejecting the two halves and watering the Organic Woods with fresh blood. As if in a frenzy, it began to stomp and screech, crushing the uninvited under its feet. Limbs and appendages splattered and flung with each stomp until it turned, focusing its large eyes towards those who had run. And then on a tilt, it looked downward at the one who wielded a whip sword, and growled.

Necro Lizard Violetta Amrita Primrose Karnage Rahma Crux

Violetta's head whipped back at the sound of a man crying out to the group of fleeing adventurers. Her eyes widened as the monstrosity showed itself. Its intent was clear and not long after in full completion. She watched as they strode passed the beast that hunted and devoured the man whole, now facing the one with blade like a belt.

She pushed herself somewhat over Karnage's shoulder and shouted passed Rahma to the man now engaged with the reptilian thing.

"You've nothin' to prove! Do not die here!" Hypocrisy hit her in the heart from the words she blurted at Crux. Even still, it held true. She thanked those around her silently for that lesson.

Karnage breathed in deeply. Blood. Oh, that smell of fresh blood. He gulped, but drool still poured down his downturned mouth. A surge of energy rippled through Karnage’s massive frame, and he felt it: that raw power that came whenever he could get a whiff of that metallic tang. While Karnage had never actually tasted blood, parting his jaws allowed him to soak that in.

His adrenaline was in overdrive, causing his strength to increase significantly. With veins bulging along not only his neck and arms and shoulders, but now his chest and torso and legs, Karnage tilted his head no more than two degrees to get a good of the giant lizard.

It was bigger than the Kamo, probably bigger than all the shark-kin ever to be found on Arethil. And its mouth? What a terrible mouth it was.

Weez needa run, Lil Ram.” Karnage said, not knowing Violetta’s name and instead giving her a nickname. He looked at Rahma, looked back at the lizard Mage and at the human man, hardly needing to swivel his head much. The sharkman’s choice was clear, go to the beacon, leave the stragglers behind.

The Moritere, mouth dripping with blood and saliva, stepped one foot forward slowly. As if no longer interested by the being who stood their ground against the Uninvited, the monster charged the group who had run from the initial horde. As it approached, it came down to chomp down hard, attempting to take the entire group in its gaping maw. The last thing they could see was the world shrinking away from them, filled with the vastness of black and rows of serrated teeth.

In a blink of red light, they would discover themselves in a large tomb of blackness and dread and no obvious doors. At the center was the origins of the red beacon, emanating like a rising tower of energy from the confines of a concealed green cube - ejecting from the roof where a hole had been formed purposely. The cube stood at nearly ten feet in height, was partially translucent, and was adorned on each face with a recessed pit of gold. Within each pit there was a small spike.

Beyond the red beam, showering red light through the obelisk, there was nothing but a sense of dread. Across the stone flooring, words were carved into the rock. As the beacon seemed to pulsate, the words took on a glowing mint hue.
The thought of me brings sickness
The sight of me, despair
Falter while in battle
And you're sure to find me there.
And when your children mourn you
Do not weep or rage
Know that you have passed me down

To endure in them for an age.
As those, who were brave enough, read the transcription, the cube began throb and hums, glowing sickly and pallid in tandem with the red mist beacon. The throbbing was initially slow and melodic but with each passing minute, the rhythm seemed to increase in pace.

Reactions: Rahma and Karnage
Rahma could feel an odd heat build up inside him as the group fled the terror unfolding around him. The sensation was quite unlike his usual primal senses that came with the shift. It wasn't fear or adrenaline either. Rahma was all too familiar with those. No, this was different...

Before he had a chance to further delve into the odd sensation, he, the tiefling, and the shark man were engulfed by a terrible maw. This was it. The violent embrace of death. That was what Rahma thought for the few moments that passed in darkness before the group again found themselves among a change of scenery.

The demi-jackal soaked in the new environment, blinking heavily.
"Great. We're alive. Where the fuck are we now?" He eyed the obelisk, confusion mounting further. Questions, only questions. "What the fuck is that thing? Who the fuck are you people?"

Karnage roared as he was swallowed whole, still with the Little Ram pressed tight against his broad shoulder. He put in extra care not to crush her ribs against his indomitable might. Strangely enough, despite bracing himself to feel razor sharp teeth to tear through him, he was unharmed.

They all were, at least, the three of them in this room. Sensing no immediate danger, Karnage set down Violetta and looked at the dog-man. He cursed just like Karnage’s old crew used to!

Illiterate, Karnage didn’t care much for the glowing squiggles on the floor. Instead, his attention was brought to the cube. The sharkman could reach it, easily. The red pulsing, strangely enough, was comforting. Like being inside his mother’s womb. He took a step towards the glowing cube, standing out so much against the sanguine light that washed over all of them.

He was drawn to it, he wasn’t sure why, but perhaps it was because he hadn’t read the inscription. Perhaps this was the special thing that he needed to get with the beacon? Maybe this was the thing to send them all home?

Another step, in tune with the pulsing beacon, going closer and closer until he reached for the cube with both of his large hands.

Struggle, flee, fight - your actions bring no greater effect of change to this miserable place. You see before you a landscape corrupted by death, hate, fear, and decay. You feel in your heart you have failed at your task.

Even if your task had been nothing of great significance to this realm or the world at large.

Everything begins to fade to nothing.

The whisper of the winds between worlds greet you, speaking stories of failed virtues and broken honor that you recognize in your bones, be it your own or witnessed others.

Your fear and your pain remains.

Your nightmare lingers in your mind long after it fades from your senses.

You awaken in the place you last remember before arriving there. The stench of death clings to you like a lover's perfume. What wounds you experienced in your fever dream you wake to find are real.

Beside you there is a strange, black box and within it you find an even stranger item. You can't say why, but you instinctively know what it is and how to use it.

Rahma: The Gestarik Amulet
Violetta: The Bonepicker's Blade
Necro: The Pouch of Warrenon
Crux: The Hand of Izmaelis

Karnage awakens with the Magebane Mask clutched within his hands.

Your lives go on as normally as they possibly can.
