The Magebane Mask
Description
At certain times, the mask feels malleable, as if the two pieces are clasped together by hinges that can shrink and swell on command. In similarity to a coffin, the mask entirely encapsulates the head of the wearer in cold black steel. It is said that upon placement, the item is extremely difficult to remove. As this item is placed on a beings head, it magically reshapes and clasps to the wearer. Only after speaking a word, which can be divined by a gifted magic user, will the mask unclasp and release. It is suspected that a great feat of strength could also remove the item, but not without potentially killing the wearer and, more importantly, destroying the mask.
When someone is confined to the mask, they are unable to cast magic. Additionally, they are unable to benefit from other magics (including telepathy) and healing abilities. It is said that the mask siphons off the users magic for its own purposes, which includes sustaining the wearer. As such, those who are confined to the mask do not need to eat or drink food.
History
The age of the mask is unknown but it clearly ancient, despite any form of patina or wear. While the origins of the mask are unknown, one might assume that it was built for a very specific purpose - containing an incredibly powerful magic user indefinitely.References
