Plop!
Roland watched his cork bobber live up to its name after casting out his line. Others lined the docks of Dornoch, but few were taking the time to fish as he did. Princess sat in his lap sleeping away with soft rhythmic purrs. Salty air blew. Too bad it couldn't blow away the typical stink deep set into all docks around the world. But that didn't slow nor hinder trade. Nothing short of plague or war could do that.... If even that for some.
The man had come to a new city beyond the Strait in search of work. So far that wasn't working out so well for him. Locals didn't trust outsiders who couldn't speak the native tongue enough to be worth hiring. Outsider trusted other outsiders even less. So there went his option of physical labor. Selling his sword wouldn't work out because the locals had an interesting society where women did most of the fighting. They didn't think he would be worth much given his extra bits. Couldn't blame them given how the opposite happened so often in other places, but still hurt his pride a bit.
Roland wasn't looking to cause problems so he figured it would be better to fish and try his luck selling his catch to the local mongers. If he was lucky he might make enough to stay at an inn. If he wasn't well hopefully he at least had supper for him and his Princess. If he was real lucky maybe something lucrative would come up and his extra bits wouldn't be a factor.... Or somehow become an attractive factor.
