Despite the overwhelming sense of dread wafting up from the corpse-infested waters surrounding them, Vaima had enough free headspace left to feel peeved at Mabbon's warning. She wasn't stupid- it was pretty obvious the path half destroyed by a tidal wave would be unstable. It was surrounded by water, anyways. The worst thing falling from the road could do to her was force a detour.
She latched onto that annoyance as the trio set out. It was better than dread.
Vaima closed her eyes briefly during the first few steps forwards, the drizzling rain lending her footsteps certainty despite her loss of vision. Each time a drop hit her skin, the faintest flash of tan returned to where it impacted. Like sand, almost.
She mentally reached outwards to the waters below. Fortunately, their unfortunately twisted nature made that easy. The radiating wrongness was like burning suns in the dark behind her eyelids. She straightened her shoulders and stood tall; you had to be firm when trying to move large amounts of water, and she'd found that proper posture helped give her the necessary confidence.
Vaima then pushed against the waters. Immediately, she almost stumbled as she felt a similar force push right back against her. The waters slowly receded as she passed them, however, moving towards flat land as Rovias had requested.
Satisfied that she had enough control, she risked distractions and opened her eyes. She quickly noticed Rovias watching her, and her limited command over the waters flickered as the pressure of not making a fool of herself was added to the force they already exerted. The liquid below went oddly motionless. A heartbeat later, Vaima clenched her fists, and the water began receding once again.
She was hardly phased by the growling echoing around them. Compared to everything else, it was a lesser worry. She focused on her annoyance again in an attempt to drown out the worry, and a hint of it leaked through into her slightly strained voice.
"I wouldn't rely on myself as a lookout right now. I'm a bit busy."
