Mordred Fórn
The Blood Stone has one of the darkest histories amongst our people aside from the Stone of Life and Death.
A deep, potent red in colour the Blood Stone has a bewitching beauty to it and is, arguably, one of the most beautiful amongst the sixteen runes despite its potency for darker magics. Of considerable size, the stone has not been worn since the Dark Mage, Ezekiel's, time. With scholars agreeing contact of this stone against ones skin speeds up the corruption process, most Guardians are thought to keep the stone locked away. Its magics are known to be considered by most races abhorrent. This makes the life of its guardian a hard one when travelling the world.
The Blood Stone's histories is a famous one and if a reader is so inclined to read deeper texts on the volume then there are several I refer below.
As I have mentioned him briefly already, I will expand upon the most famous of these guardians; Ezekiel Mandraan most commonly known as the Dark Mage. It was said he could use the stone to reanimate corpses fallen in battle and bind them to his will, that he could turn a living man into a puppet, and turn a persons blood to poison in their veins. It was this Dark Mage that led to the development of the thrice-yearly check-ins all guardians must now undergo.

The Blood Runestone
Mordred was lucky enough to be given several great tomes on the subject of his runestone when he was chosen to be the next guardian. It is because of this knowledge that Mor knows how easily a person may fall prey to the darker sides of this gift and thrust himself instead into learning what good this stone could give the world, for that was why it was created.
Healing: The skill Mor uses the stone for the most is the act of healing. His travels over the world have led him to become a fine surgeon, particularly on the battlefield, but also a first class doctor in his own right. The stone grants him the abilities to redirect blood flow which allows for the slowing of wounds, to cleanse the blood of poisons, and also to detect hidden ailments much the same way alchemists in other cultures perform blood tests. There are levels to how well Mordred can repair and heal these ailments, but boosted by his knowledge he more often than not finds cures to his patients illness.
The Gifts of Blood: Mordred has discovered the runestone allows him to be able to use different types of blood for different spells or abilities. He keeps a careful list of these and is known to quietly experiment their uses on himself.
- Poultry blood: allows an increase in his speed.
- Serpent blood: increases his vision and hearing abilities.
- Elven blood: has been known to give powerful boosts of energy that mean he can go without food or sleep for up to a week.
- Orc blood: Increases his strength and stamina
Mordred keeps small vials of blood on his person at all times. He can bestow these gifts on others too with help from the runestone, however continuous use of them on those who are not a Guardian of the Blood stone have been seen to become angrier, and full of dark thoughts.
Blood bending: The stones most basic and primitive magic allows Mor to bend blood much like elementals can bend water, air, fire or earth.
Puppet Master: The bloodstone gets a particular enjoyment from controlling others. At times Mordred believes the stone has a personality of its own and it attempts to impose its will even on him as its guardian. This is his most underused but most gifted ability; controlling bodies. These can be both living and dead, though the warmer the blood the better control the stone gives him over them. The person is entirely conscious whilst this is happening. Those with a stronger will are usually able to resist this.
There are many other uses of the stone but several of these have been collectively banned by past Guardians. The price of using the bloodstone is perhaps one of the most costly out of the runestones in that the Guardian's deterioration is much quicker than others. Dark thoughts cloud the mind and judgement, and at times Guardians report blacking out for hours though their body is going about its daily tasks. The Guardians of these stones all live suspiciously shorter lives than those of their fellows, and they tend to be quite distant from the rest of the community. It is no coincidence Guardianship of this runestone is oft considered a curse more than a honourable duty.

Character Overview
Mordred hailed from a well known family of farmers. His education was simplistic and for most of his life he believed he would one day take over from his father in running the family farm. Mor was never quite content with his lot in life though now he would give anything to return to it. Instead, he and a close childhood friend, decided to enlist in the Vanguard's junior division. Whilst he showed no real appetite for war, Mor's skills with healing and his calm, quiet nature, had him earmarked for a field medic.
It was quite a surprise to all when Mor was announced as the next Blood Rune Guardian. Overnight his friends appeared to melt away and his relationships with his family became strained. The history of the rune was too much for many to ignore. After the first two years of possessing the rune, those who hadn't slipped away Mor quietly removed himself from instead. He begun to spend all of his time travelling and only returned for the thrice-yearly homecomings.
Mor is an incredibly dedicated and astute guardian despite his aversion to the rune.
His travels have taken him all over the world and he has met a great and varied peoples. Despite it all, Mor continues to hold himself apart fearing that one day he will fall in the same way as his forebearers to the whispered temptations of the runestone. As such he's often called a loner or thought of as odd and quiet. Those that get a glimpse beneath the shield find a darkly humorous, intelligent and confident young man with a passion to help others.
