Eilerias sat quietly after Khet responded. His response took her by surprise. Certainly she could soothe him so he wasn't aching from his disfigurements.
She studied the letter as the writing melted away. A symbol was revealed to be on the page. She had no idea what it meant, but by the look on Isak's face, it wasn't good.
Isak's anger frightened her as the malformed man spoke of the slavers which followed in the footsteps of their own former slaver. It must have hurt to have his old wounds ripped back open. Children being traded. Taken from their mothers and abused. The very thought caused her to start digging her nails into her palms in an effort to hide her disgust.
She dug her nails into her palm as she he brought forth a map. She was not well educated in areas outside of Falwood, where she spent most of her childhood, and Alliria, so this location didn't stick out to her. "Black bay." She mouthed the words in silence as she stared at the meaningless location. Gwendolyn tried to educate her, so she would have an easier time adjusting to the hard life in the Outer City, but world geography hadn't yet made an appearance in her curriculum.
Eilerias shook her head as Isak tried to speak to her. She looked down at her hands. They were bleeding where she had been digging her nails in to stop herself from speaking up. She looked disappointed when she finally looked up again. She wanted to let him go. They had a deal. Who was she to interfere with their business?
She allowed him to grab her bloody hand. It stung as her skin touched his glove, but she didn't show the pain on her face. She took a deep breath and turned back to Khet. "I'll go with." Her voice was quiet, but confident- it was a demand. "I can help. I can save them." She said referring to the children which had been unfairly used as a form of currency, rather than the slavers Isak was likely being sent to murder.
The very thought of the slaves taking those kids made her tear up. She looked back down. She didn't want Khet to see her cry about the child slaves. He didn't want sympathy, he wanted death. She stood up, still staring at the filthy floor and turned to the door. She intended to let Isak finish the meeting and she would wait outside where she could collect her thoughts and the shadows would shut up for once.
