Appearance

At one time Eleanor would have been considered rather unremarkable in her appearance. Now, through her service to Bastallen she is almost unrecognizable from the girl she once was. Her hazel eye's are now white, and carry a cold weight to them [1] and her once brown hair has turned white despite her youthful complexion.[2] She usually wears her hair back in a loose ponytail. Two brands mark the backs of her hands, the symbols for life and death, and the black mark of Bastellen rests on the back of her neck. [3] It is more difficult to see against her pale skin but the same mark adorns her hands in white and a strange runic script runs up both her arms fading into her skin around her elbows.

Skills and Abilities

Eleanor is well educated. She has a wealth of book knowledge and is well versed in history, literature, mathematics, and music. She can play the piano and zither. She also speaks both the trade language and two other of the more common human dialects. She gained a cursory knowledge of magic and magic theory from her teacher Madame Valkery. Her teacher taught her both general magic theory and also Aura magic (Aura magic draws its power from the emotional and spiritual resonance residues left behind on objects). Later Eleanor gained a much deeper understanding of magic from studying the tomes found in the lost library of the cult of Bastellen. Eleanor sees magic as being much like music and math, one must pluck the right strings of the universe to create a harmonious flow of energy to the desired purpose of the caster.

At first her understanding of theory was better than her practical application of magic. Valkery made a point of ensuring she had a strong foundation. She also enforced the practice of non-verbal casting, something that most beginning casters could not grasp. She said that if one could cast a spell non-verbally they would be able to understand it inside and out, and once mastered they would have much more control and flexibility. She also stressed the importance of breaking down the spell into its smallest units and only using the smallest amount of magic necessary to cast the spell. This application of Aura magic makes Eleanor very good at mana conservation.

She can read the auras of others and detect the resonance frequency of objects. She can even sense the residue of one's aura on things they have touched in the last 24 hours.

She can manipulate auras, collecting the residue from objects and transforming the resonance of the aura to another which can change the nature of the object entirely. However, this is very difficult to do, has a high risk of failure, and burns a lot of energy so is nearly impossible on a large scale without sourcing aura from living beings. It is possible for her to collect aura from a living being. However, this comes at a high cost to herself, it turns her hair white and causes physical exhaustion and internal bleeding. If too much aura is collected there is also the possibility of overloading the individual causing anything from a migraine to full on loss of consciousness.

She can neutralize the effects of most poisons and substances by changing their resonance frequency to match her heart beat, so long as they are slow acting enough. She is also familiar enough with a particular sleeping poison that she can also create this substance in another's bloodstream. [4]

She can easily do simple things like create a spark or put out a candle and these skills can be combined or manipulated to create new effects.

As the Void Forger of Bastellen she has access to all the abilities of a priestess of Bastellen and beyond. [5] Unlike other priestesses she does not require the use of a book to use void aura.

The long dark: She is able to control a type of dark void energy. It drains energy from souls and life energy to feed its power, able to act almost like a liquid it can form whips, tentacles, pointed spears and even a thick dome-like shield if needed. Basically the more souls she collects and the more living energy around her she allows it to consume the more powerful it becomes.

Healing magic: She can perform most common healing spells for flesh wounds, light injuries, and some poisons, but for serious illnesses, high tier poisons or deadly injuries, a living thing is required. The worse the injury the larger the animal up to requiring human sacrifice if the person is close to death. She often uses this healing magic to heal herself from injuries sustained in combat or from the cost of casting spells.

Necromancy: She can speak with spirits of any willing, but they must linger. Any spirits that pass into an afterlife are not reachable. She requires the blood and hair of the individual to be reached and requires her to cut her left hand and sacrifice her own blood as well. The longer the summoning the more her wound will bleed into the circle.

Aura of Fear and Decay: Those around her feel unease and deep seeded dread for a few moments after entering her AOE.

Spirit Walk: By allowing her god to take control of her body she can fight much better but her mortal body can only handle it for short amount of time anywhere from a minute to an hour at most, and when done she loses consciousness with no vital signs for up to 3 days, depending on how long she uses it.

Time of prayer: after prayer, she gains a good bit of vitality depending on how long her prayer is and the amount of ritual sacrifices for her deity

Void Forger: With a large enough sacrifice she is able to bind the void to an object enchanting it and allowing it to serve as a bridge between the void and Arethil. However, the object itself has to be fashioned of a high quality or else the enchantment would destroy it. She can also renew old enchantments.

The secrets of the Void: Out of all the sisters of the order, her conection to the void is the strongest. She understands the void better than any of them, except for Maywynn. This understanding allows her to over power void controlled by others, to prevent it's manifestation, alter it's moments etc.

The Voice of Bastellen: As void forger, she has a very strong connection to the void, she is able to communicate with Bastellen easily where others would struggle or only hear whispers or disjointed phrases. On top of this she can command the whispers that all sisters of the order hear to convey messages to members of the order.

Armor of the Abyss: She can use the void to form plate armor around her body.

She has also found a way to combine her aura magic with the void magic of Bastellen. The void that she controls functions as a strong distillation of dark aura. It is collected by taking the aura's of others at the moment of death. She is also able to push herself way past her limits using the dark aura to heal herself continuously.

Personality

She has grown somber over time. She is no longer the grief-stricken fragile girl she once was. Now she carries herself with an aura of calm confidence, and cold certainty. She caries a nostalgic sorrow in her heart but she also understands her duty. She follows her master's orders without reservation. She isolates herself from the world, and unless one is a member of her cult or a target she will usually ignore them. She still has a big heart and feels sympathy for the weak and downtrodden. She does her best to help them in little ways when she can but usually, her masters' orders require isolation on her part.

Her brother's death no longer haunts her, and has put it behind her. She has accepted that she is a tool. Though she has had a taste of power and enjoyed it. She will challenge her Master's orders or make her own interpretations of his wishes when she feels it is in the best interest of the order. She no longer wishes to return to who she was before and embraces her role as leader of the Cult. Her expression is often cold and impassive. She can show compassion and kindness but she is also capable of cruelty and manipulation.

Biography & Lore

Eleanor is the middle child in a large noble family. Her family gained their wealth from a long-standing involvement in the silk trade in Alliria which had been maintained for several generations. As the only girl in a family of five, she often felt overshadowed by her brothers. Growing up her family placed great expectations on her brothers to take on the family business and establish themselves in the merchant and political fabric of the world as soon as possible. However, for her, there were little to no expectations.

She struggled in school so her parents provided her with the best tutors money could buy. However, it was treated as a luxury which they could afford, not a requirement. Little to no responsibility for her own education was expected. When she continued to struggle they blamed it on the tutors and just hired a new one. She went through three tutors in only two years and the frequent change of instructors was making it difficult for her to adjust, making her fall further behind.

Her final tutor was a shrewd woman, she went by Madam Valkary, though that was not her real name. She was firm but kind and would not take any nonsense from her family just because they were rich. She was the first person to hold Eleanor responsible for her actions. Under her tutelage, there was a massive improvement in Eleanor's learning. When she had caught up Madam Valkary even pushed her to get ahead.

Madam Valkery dabbled in magic and taught Eleanor the basics. She ensured that Eleanor had a strong understanding of the five universal tenets of magic before even letting her try anything. Madame Valkery had learned magic under an Empath and had developed her own variation of the practice which she called Aura magic. She taught Eleanor the foundations of Aura magic giving her the ability to expand on that on her own.

When her younger brother Terance left for Elbion to apply to the college she went with him to visit the great city. A part of her considered secretly applying to the college but she never got the chance. She was marked by Bastellen and kidnapped by one of his servants. Her brother was killed by her kidnapper and in order to free his soul from Bastellen's control, she agreed to serve him in exchange for the release of her brother's soul into the afterlife. [6]

ARC 1: Lost Girl

After becoming a member of the cult she struggled to accept her fate and was weighed down by the grief of the loss of her brother. She became distant and despondent only doing what she was told and no more. She trained in void magic under The cult's high priestess Luna Slateforge's tutelage. Through use of the void, she also learned better how to control Aura. It was a long and painful process. Unlike the other cult members who used the void like an external force that followed their orders, Eleanor let the void pass through her body as a conduit, this gave her a level of precision and control unattainable without it but it also caused severe pain and internal damage.

Because of her aura magic, She was initiated as the Void forger. A special member of the cult that was capable of binding the void to objects and enchanting them. Items like the black books or the armor of Bastellen could be forged with enough sacrifices.

However, she struggled to come to terms with the cost of life that the void required to be satisfied. She could not bring herself to kill for it so her supply of the void aura was usually painfully low. When Pandemonium came, and the demons emerged from the red mist she found that she was unable to fight them on her own. Her and Quoril entered the mists and found themselves fighting for their lives. And in that moment of pain and defeat, she found a semblance of clarity. She embraced the void, became the monster, to defeat the monster that threatened the life of her friend. The amount of pure void that passed through her body in that moment almost tore her apart, causing her hair to turn completely white. But the monster was dead.

ARC 2: Darkness Found

Soon after Pandemonium the cult went into hiding. The members split up and she was instructed to reside in Elbion to keep an eye on Madame Valkery who had vowed to destroy the cult and rescue her former student. During that time she trained. She was no longer able to rely on Luna to supply her with void sacrifices and found she had to do it herself. She learned that there were all sorts of low lives that resided in Elbion. She resolved to clean up the streets killing murderers, rapists and others guilty of such crimes and using them to feed the black book. During this time she regained her confidence. She also learned how to craft her own Void artifacts.

When the isolation was over She met with Luna and together they traveled to Alliria on their way to meet Mayawen, the conduit of Bastellen. In Alliria Elanor went to her brother's grave and said goodbye. to finally let go before moving on to this new stage of her life.

Before they could leave the city, Eleanor and Luna ran into Madame Valkery. Valkery stole Luna's black book and for a short time Eleanor had to bind Luna to her own book to keep her alive. The tacked Valkery down and a fight ensued. Eleanor overpowered Valkery, but when Bastellen ordered her to kill her former teacher she could not. To save Valkeries life Eleanor made another deal with Bastellen, this time she was the one who dictated the terms. In exchange for the promise that the lives and wellbeing of Valkery, Quoril and the rest of her family were off limits she would dedicate herself fully to the growth and well being of the order.

ARC 3: Throne of Blood and Bones

Relationships

Terance Griffin: (Deceased) [NPC] Eleanor's younger brother, he was a bit of a jerk most of the time; arrogant and brash as most young men are. However, he cared deeply about his sister, and even though he would tease her and ridicule her he didn't hesitate to protect her with his life when she was in danger. He died trying to save her from the cult of Bastellen and was brutally murdered in front of Eleanor. She agreed to join the cult in exchange for the release of her brother's soul into the afterlife. His death still haunts her and she feels a lot of guilt around his death. Ultimately it was her involvement that lead to his death, if she had not gone to Elbion with him he would still be alive.

Elise Darkwater: A Dreadwaver in the cult of Bastellen. She kidnaped Eleanor and killed her brother. Even though Eleanor joined the cult and has to work alongside Elise she still holds a deep seeded dislike of Elise. though she no longer fears her. She is also able to recognize that Elise is still a sister and vital to the survival of the cult. Eleanor is able to put her dislike of Elise aside for the better meant of the order. She also recognised Elise's unwavering loyalty.

Luna Slatforge: (Deceased) The High Priestess of Bastellen and Eleanor's mentor in the cult. Eleanor feels very close to Luna. Luna is one of the few people who understood how she felt. Even though she was still expected to perform as a member of the cult Luna gave her the time and patience needed for her to seek some semblance of healing. Feeling desperate for any kind of connection Eleanor latched onto Luna's kindness. Luna was one of the few people who understood how she felt, and at the same time, Eleanor did not fear accidentally harming Luna, like she feared she might harm everyone else. As Eleanor grew in power their relationship shifted. Eleanor was able to stand on her own without fear, and took it upon herself to protect and care for the weakening high priestess.

Madame Valkery: Eleanor's former teacher. She taught her everything from history to Aura magic. However, Valkery disappeared without a word one day. Eleanor holds some resentment towards her for this but ever since they ran into each other in Elbion Valkery has been determined to save Eleanor from the cult. Eleanor knows that this goal is impossible and as long as Valkery opposes the cult she will be obligated to try and stop her.

Quoril: An Alchemist who was present at the time of her Kidnapping. He tried to help rescue her and for some reason, she felt a connection with him. Perhaps it was his selfless genuine concern for her safety, even though they barely knew each other he put his life on the line for her. Now she greatly admires him for his pure heart and innocent curiosity. She considers herself his friend but she also knows she cannot be around him. Her duties as void forger mean that she would be putting Quoril in danger by seeking him out. She also recognizes that she does not have time for her own personal desires and Quoril is a distraction from her true purpose.
