He appears as many different things. Everytime a mortal seems to get a grip on what he looks like it changes. The mortal mind can hardly conceive of his true appearance, the shapes, the colors, everything about the true form of Bastellen appears like a blur, with nothing discernable, everything shifting and elusive, totally alien to the mortal mind.
Skills and Abilities
The call of the void: He is able to whisper to his followers or those under his control, in order to relay instructions or information.
Spirits: He can temporarily use spirits he pulls from the void to do his bidding before they are sent on into the afterlife. However, evil spirits are vulnerable and weak, able to be bound to him permanently. If anyone is killed as a sacrifice specifically for Bastellen, their spirit is also bound to him.
Corruption: He can use his powers to corrupt life energy and use it to allow his followers to direct it from the void and use it as they see fit. Physically of course.
Hunger: Any void magic cast will eat into anything with life energy giving it more power. A piece of leather or things built by man for instance will have no problem fighting this off. A mage that erects a magical barrier would be in for a rude awakening as the void magic eats away the magic to fuel its own power.
Bloodshed and Bargains: Bastellen has the power to take over a part of your soul. After making a blood bargain with him you and part of your soul are his until the bargain is complete. In exchange he will grant you access to the void to summon it and use his spirits as you see fit. If the bargain is broken your entire soul is his for all eternity. In this contract the words and wording are specific and binding.
Possession: After they have been marked by one of his spirits, they can easily be contacted and even controlled for a short duration by Bastellen. Though changes may occur to their behavior or appearance after too long and give away evidence of the possession.
Personality
Bastellen is a very fickle deity. Not taken to feeling a particular way about anything but one thing. Power, gaining maintaining and controlling it seems to be the only thing that drives him.
Biography & Lore
Bastellen is the deity of The Void, bloodshed, bargains, and transference. He ferry's souls to the after life and in return they must serve him for a short time as payment. Souls must all pass through The Void to gain entrance into the after life and the void itself is fueled by the many evil souls Bastellen reaps as he roams his domain . Though evil souls are preferred he is known to fancy innocent souls as well as their plentiful life energy can be easily corrupted...
The Cult of Bastellen was started ages upon ages ago as mages delved deeper into seeking the afterlife. Many who had lost loved ones, friends, brothers, sisters... Many began to delve into dark places to find answers... And Bastellen was waiting. Hungering for power as a minor deity he began preying on their desperation and blind emotion. He made bargains with those who sought him out. Answers, power, gold, and the chance to see the ones they lost again. All they had to do was make a bargain. Soon his influence grew as he began demanding souls. Souls not culled from the void... Innocent souls bound to him through rituals, souls he could control for all eternity. For decades his cult grew into a religion split into two different roles with their own respective hierarchies.
Dreadweavers: Bastellens right hands. Enforcers and peacekeepers. Only the most loyal were given gauntlets of void power and trained to guard his shrines and temples day and night, and carry out any demands made to them by Bastellen.
Usually enemies of his following met their fate at the hands of a Dreadweaver. Due to the power overloading their bodies, the life spans for these men and women sworn to him were short and consisted of long lonely nights... And bloodshed up to their elbows.
Priestesses: Those Chosen by Bastellen to lead and minister to the congregation, soothe any infighting, and be the final authority on any judgments brought before them by their followers.
They were also the selected few who had the honor of seeing the deity in person and communing with him regularly. A mysterious group that seemed to be compassionate, kind and loving to any who didnt oppose the god they served. any would be seen healing the sick, freeing slaves, and being a comfort to many widows and orphans. However they were also in charge of arranging, preparing, and executing human sacrifices. The same hands that raised up the down trodden were soaked in the blood of many innocents.
Soon the evil of corruption, double dealings, and human sacrifices, the debauchery, the sodomy and excess led to his cult and followers being hunted and extinguished to nothing by the holy churches and organizations of the six gods. Torches were brought to his temples and shrines. Powerful magic from their followers, and servants of the gods themselves held him from retaliation as one by one his life lines and influence were cut from him, Temple by temple, follower by follower.
Leaving the powerful god in a limbo all himself a crippled shell of his former glory. With no influence and his shrines and temples burned.
He was lost and powerless. Many, including the gods, thought him to be dead or imprisoned never to be released. He now bides his time in the remote hand full of his shrines still standing, as forgotten by time as he himself, using relics spared or greedily taken and unwittingly saved from destruction to call to those curious in hopes that one day he may rise again to his full power.
