Much of what had been planned could not have been without her. Though she'd failed her haughty task, far too confident far too soon, she'd still set so much in motion... This needed to be done. And now, even now as the plan began to unfold and the light was made absent from the sky, it was time to retrieve that which had been lost from them. It was time to rescue Iesha, before it was too late.
Third "Day" of the Cold Night
Ragash
Three nights in, and already the temperature had dropped significantly. She could have sworn she almost saw her breath. But she could afford little time to ponder in amazement of such things, as here in the streets of Ragash, stalking ever closer to the tall walls of the imperial prison, she needed to remain alert. No doubt if they were seen out around here at a time like this, suspicions would flare with ease. So, she and her company of half a dozen others moved with as much haste and guile as they could, which in this lasting night, proved quite a bit simpler than in times past. But still, the eyes of an Abtati were sharp, as were their ears, and no doubt many of them stood watch over what they sought.
Nevertheless, the task would be done, and it would be done regardless of what stood in their path. Abtatu willed it.
"There," whispered one of them, "the gatehouse."
They all paused and examined for a moment, then Eirene said, "we'll move a short way down the wall, and scale it there just out of the light."
Their agreement was quick and unanimous, and so they moved through the shadows until they came to the appointed place. There, they slung hooks up to latch atop the wall, and once firmly secured, they began to climb.
