Completed The War of The Kinniger Duchy

With a sigh of his own he stepped up to her and without hesitation pulled her into a hug. His right hand came to the back of her head while his left came around her back. “I’m sorry Kyla. I’m very very sorry.“

He had no idea what else he could say. Nor did he know what he could do to help. All he knew for sure was that she needed someone there, and so long as he was needed he’d be there. And he’d stand there for however long it took, if she needed a moment to cry he’d give it to her, who wouldn’t after what had happened?

Once the hug had passed he’d step back and grimly inform her, “we will be headed south to besiege Castle Greywatch. You’ll get your chance to vent love. Until then, please, if you ever need to talk, talk with me. I’m here for you.”

Kyla looked at her bonds on the ground. She could leave...but she looked around her. The beaten warriors.

Haggard by this conflict. These people..She looked at her own lover. Stalwart and reserved as ever..

His people..

Her people.

Her hands balled into fists. She didn’t know why she felt this way. Her heart yearned for her sister and yet..It yearned for him as well. Him and his people.

“No.” She said simply.

“If you would free me..I would help you end this.” She said. “No plans, No others in danger.” she spat through grit teeth. “I will end this. For you.” She said with a softening of the hatred in her eyes that threatened to burn through her sockets. It calmed like a raging storm as they met his own. But it returned with a will as her yes left his. “Simply tell me where the leader is.” She growled.

He had been about to leave. To let her be. Yet that word, that one word, stopped him dead in his tracks. He too was torn, torn between her clear concern for his people, her desire to help them, and his own worry for her sister.

He sighed sadly, "we don't know. None of our spies ever report back. We don't know who or where he or she is. That's why this war has lasted so long. Even with your strength now available to you, while it is an advantage they can not easily counter, they have their own strength, and that alone will not bring the war to a speedy end."

He turned to face her. "Would you really stay, knowing that you could be here, for months, perhaps years, fighting with us? Your sister's trail will be long gone by then."

He looked at her, a grave expression on his face. "Kyla. I would love nothing more than for you to be here, but your sister needs you far more than I do. Do you really wish to stay?"

“I don’t think you heard me correctly love.” She said poking his chest firmly with a single sturdy finger. She knew he could take it though in all honesty a lesser man would have been knocked back. Eberwolf stood sturdy. Gods she loved this man. “I will end this. Who is the best scout on hand here. I would take them with me.” She said. “You as well if you would shed that armor.” She said with a wink. “It’s time I went hunting.” She smirked. Very few things could escape Kyla’s full attention, and she was a hunter of at the very least local repute. Her nose and hearing were what had aided her in earning her name as the red wolf.

A hunter.

An apex predator.

And Eberwolf had just removed her leash.

He smiled at her. "Let's see what we can do."

He still doubted that they'd be able to do this quickly, but it wasn't a bad idea. And damn him if he didn't see this war ended. Her poke did have some force behind it, and while he certainly felt it, he didn't fall back with it. And he rolled his eyes at her wink. "You don't need to work so hard to get me out of my armor. Alright then. You're determined, and I have a feeling that I'm going to regret letting you out of those shackles, but what's done is done."

He removed his helmet, "I'll meet you by the fort's western gate, we'll set out for the ranger's outpost a few days travel from here. I imagine I'll need to leave Thunder here."

He set his helmet down, then began removing his armor plates. Once he was only clad in his arming doublet and gambeson pants he belted on his swords and walked to the western gate, either to wait for her, or to meet up with her waiting for him.

Kyla stopped on her way to meet her love. The cage loomed as the person inside sat as they had before.

“Your a sneaky thing if I recall. Correct?” She asked approaching it. “Bit of bite in you too.” She mused recalling their last exchange. “Let’s say I let you out, and you help me. In turn you don’t rot here until they flog you to bits of flesh. What say you.” She said looking at the woman intently.

“If you run, or try and fight I will tear you to pieces with my own two hands. So if you only wish to agree to make an escape you would be far safer staying here with these people.” Kyla cautioned.

She was taking a risk, but being the lover of the strongest fighter had certain perks in her mind. He was a man set in his ways, but was not immune to being nudged by someone who had earned his respect. Kyla had done plenty of that.

Syvis

„A tempting offer. What is it you require assistance with? A fool only agrees without knowing the cost.“ she mused smirking at the other woman. There was a vague idea of knowingness in Syvis‘ mind but she didn’t wish to assume. „What of the male?“ she questioned. „Unfortunately he seems quite steadfast in the law, you do appear to be bedding him but I speaking from experience have learned seduction may only take you so far.“ it wasn’t meant as a jab more a general inquiry, Syvis met this in the way one would in a business negotiation.

„Miss. As much as I do find you quite threatening do not underestimate my skill levels. While there is no doubt one of us may meet our end cockiness has been the fall of a many a great warrior.“ Syvis smiled at the woman her tone gentle yet knowing.

Eberwolf, on his way to the gate, thought to himself that it was best that they bring Kerberos. It would give them more fighters and a very efficient tracking hound.

So he retrieved the three headed monster, and picked up the manacle set before heading back. He didn't want to leave them lying around, and who knows, they might prove useful in some way. Sure they wouldn't suppress vampiric strength, but they could withstand it quite easily and their unique enchantments would make it easier to restrain someone.

That and He would have to return Kyla to the city to officialise her release, and he couldn't bring her back without them on her. There would be some questions asked if he did.

It was true to a point. He himself likely wouldn't have gone to her a second time, he had already given her a basically identical offer and she'd turned it down. He believed in second chances, but he also knew that one couldn't waste time trying to redeem those too far gone. But if Kyla managed to convince Syvis to come along and help, well then he'd have no issue with it.

Though he didn't have a way to ensure obedience the way he'd done for Kyla and her sister, which would make it slightly harder, but, the threat of being used as a chew-toy for a three headed dog was a good motivation to behave. So maybe he wouldn't have that much to worry about after all.
