Private Tales Nine Lives

A private roleplay only for those invited by the first writer
Layla woke to Teekle kneading dough on her chest. For a non-cat cat he had the tendencies down pat and that just made her chuckle. She scratched him between the ears before she set him on the floor and sat up.

After receiving her instructions from Isaac, she helped him move the boy from the bed to the floor. She looked at Isaac with a frown and crossed her arms slowly. This looked extremely complicated and she hoped he could do it.

"What do you need me to do?" She asked softly.

Isaac frowned slightly as he looked down at the boy, as if somewhat weary of this whole thing. It had been far too long since he'd performed any actual magic. This sort of thing was...well this was the sort of thing he'd tried to avoid learning.

"Nothing." He told Layla.

For a moment more he lingered, and then took in a deep breath. Hand ran through his hair as he shook his head. "Just stand back and watch the..."

As he was about to finish speaking there was a sudden spark of light. The Sapphire began to glow, then grew brighter, and brighter, and brighter until it all but burned through the entire room. Sound seemed to die within the room, utterly and completely. The light grew until it was all that filled the room.

Then suddenly it stopped.

Like a snap of the finger the light died within, and all that was left of the drawing on the floor was a thin black line. The Sapphire sat within its little capsule, resting. Thousands of tiny splinters ran through it...then within the span of a breath it shattered into a thousand pieces.

Layla didn't need to be told twice. She really didn't have much to offer anyways so she was totally okay with just watching. She had already taken a few steps back towards the couch when the room started to change.

There was suddenly a light and before she could say anything else, it grew brighter and overtook the entire room. Layla had to close her eyes at the brightness.

And then it was gone.

The silence broken by the sapphire shattering. Layla looked at the boy, the shattered sapphire, and then at Isaac. "Is he good now?" She had no idea if that was all.

The odd black lines beneath the boys flesh were gone, his skin had some color, and his chest rose and fell a tad more easily.

Isaac frowned for a brief moment, glancing over towards Teekle. "Is he?"

For a moment the cat did not seem like it would answer. He looked to Isaac, then to Layla, and then slowly over towards the boy. With quick padding steps he moved over towards the noble son, his nose sniffing gently at the kid.

"Mow."

The cat answered quietly.

"Seems so." Isaac said with a slight frown. "Though, he may not be...well, doesn't much matter."

He said with a shrug. "He won't die."

Isaac's assertion was not reassuring but at least the boy wouldn't die. That was good, she supposed.

Layla crossed her arms and frowned at Isaac. "It does matter if something happens before we are done in this city," she responded back. They were not leaving right away. They had things to do...he had things to do rather.

"Can we move him back onto the bed?" She asked as she looked at the cat instead of Isaac.

Least the little runt wouldn't be turning into a demon. There may be some...mood issues down the line that greater Neus wouldn't appreciate when the new Graf ascended, but Isaac couldn't fix every problem in the world.

He was only one man. "What are you asking him for?"

"Mreeow."

"You didn't heal him." Isaac reminded the cat. "I did."

Teekle gave a flick of the tail, offering Layla a smug look before he turned around and began to pad over towards the bed. Isaac let out a sigh, rubbing his face before he and the Shifter quickly transferred the boy back into his bed.

When he was back comfortable, Isaac glanced over towards his companion. "You'll want to think of something to ask from the Graf."

The Warlock mused quietly, plucking Teekle from the bed and into his arms.

"What is Teekle on about?" Layla asked Isaac as she scratched the cat between his ears. She really wished she could understand what Teekle said. The one sided conversations drove her nuts especially when she knew that Isaac was keeping something to himself.

Once Layla was done giving Teekle some good boy scritches, she walked over to the door and asked the guard there to fetch the Graf once more.

She shut the door behind her and walked back towards Isaac. "The Graf is on his way..."

Isaac shrugged. "He's mad he didn't get a prize."

It was important to remember that Teekle was no cat. He was a Daemon, spawn of the Abyss that padded around this world only due to the ties it held to Isaac. That was part of the price, part of the payment that would eventually come due.

The Warlock frowned for a moment, as if he were about to say something else, then simply shook his head and decided not to go on.

Before long the Graf once again came bursting through the door. His eyes flickered first to Layla, then to Isaac, and then finally to the bed. His face lit up almost instantly, washing away from concern to an expression of utter joy.

"Y-you did it!"

He shouted, rushing over to the bed. He leaned over his son, patting his cheek, checking his temperature. Tears welling in his eyes.

"You did it...my gods you did it...thank you. Thank you. I cannot overstate what this means for me. Please...please tell me what I can do to repay you. Both of you."

Isaac glanced lazily over towards Layla, letting her go first.

Layla had expected the Graf's happiness. He clearly loved his son and he was pleased that the boy would live. She just hoped they were far away before any of the side effects took hold.

She had not expected the Graf to ask what he could do to repay them. She expected it for Isaac but not for herself. She looked at Isaac and then at Teekle.

Layla had everything she needed with Isaac. He could get anything she wanted in a snap of his fingers. What more could she want for?

"Whatever the cat wants," Layla replied looking at Isaac. He knew the answer already.
