- Shapeshifting - She can shift into any animal as well as change her human features to that of other people. She can only work with faces that she has seen before though.
- Her mundane skills include those of the assassin arts and drinking copious amounts of alcohol.
Personality
Layla prefers silence and she is not one to show emotions. She has never known love or real affection so she is unsure how to react to any type of kindness directed towards her. She can be ruthless and she does not feel any remorse when she has taken someone's life.
Biography & Lore
Layla never knew her parents or any of her family. She does not even know if Layla was name that she was given at birth. She certainly did not know her surname either. She was just Layla growing up. She was found on the street when she was just 4 years old and she was taken in by the other homeless, orphaned kids and teens of Teth. The rumor that she grew up with was that her parents had been pirates and they went out on a ship but never came back. Add that to one more thing that she was not sure about since the orphans were constantly making up stories of their origins.
She spent the next eight years with her adopted family of orphans just trying to survive. She stole, she ran errands, and she even babysat. She did anything she could do to eat and try to save a little money for her future. At the young age of 12, she stumbled upon a shadowy figure. A shadowy figure who she had just watched murder someone else. It did not take long for that shadowy figure to pick up on her presence since she was clumsy, scared, and loud.
That was also the night that sheer terror triggered the young girl to transform into a very small, scared kitten. It was in that moment that the shadowy figure saw some sort of potential in Layla and gave her two option: learn how to kill or be killed right here. After several hours, Layla transformed back into a human against her will. She only had one choice since she did not want to die.
From that night until her 17th birthday, she lived with the shadowy figure and did her bidding. The shadowy figure, an assassin named Dabria, taught Layla how to survive. She learned how to move silently, how to kill without remorse, how to evade capture, and - most importantly according to Dabria - not to ever love. Love was a terrible emotion that would ruin everything for the young assassin in training. Layla had a feeling there was much more to that story, but she was never brave enough to ask.
During her training with Dabria, she started to explore her powers and figured out that the term used for this power was shapeshifting. She visited libraries trying to find any information and she slowly started to control the changes that were once only controlled by strong emotions.
When Layla turned 17, Dabria gave her a new set of daggers and some poisons. She told her that her training was complete and it was time for her to go out on her own. Dabria believed Layla was ready, but Layla did not agree. It was not until Dabria disappeared into thin air that Layla realized that she was, indeed, alone. Layla tried to go back to her family of orphans, but they had moved on with their lives and thought of her as a family abandoner. Knowing she had nothing left in Teth, she set out to travel on her own.
Layla has spent 3 years traveling around the world and finding work where she can. She has managed to keep her identity a secret because of her shapeshifting ability. She even gave herself the surname Moreno, which she had learned meant Dark.
