Fable - Ask Knowing Which Way to Woe

A roleplay which may be open to join but you must ask the creator first
"No I'm not. It's not about the hunt it's about you. I told you. I want to know why I like you. I was very candid about it as I recall."
He was certain he said as much.
Fennec was not stupid, of this he was certain. In fact he wondered if her concise silence and directness of purpose might have made her a genius of sorts but she wasn't seeming to get that he liked all she was doing to get rid of him.
"So why do you think that is? Any ideas? I'm stumped."
He threw out his shoulders and gave a gesture of mock defeat.
She was going to insult him, he was certain but it didn't matter. Engagement would give him the why of it.

He was back on that again. The liking thing. Why was everyone in the school so obsessed with liking each other all of a sudden? It was disgusting and an affront to all the years put into making them what they were.

Well, some of them, anyways. Post-revolution had seen quite a few late arrivals, something of which Fennec held no great care for. She had been here since the very start of her life. If anyone could call this place their home, it was her. These children who came in after 14, 15 years of living beyond the Academy would never be Dreadlords in her eyes. They hadn't endured. They hadn't suffered. They hadn't survived. They hadn't learned.

This ... this whole event of the evening was offensive to her on levels she could not begin to describe. It was very likely he'd made up the presence of stag in the forest entirely, and she was mad at herself for agreeing to any of this at all. She blinked at him, and then without any response turned on her heel and began retracing her steps back out of the forest.
 
"There's that sensitivity again."
Orchid called after Fennec but didn't move from the spot where she turned around. He did draw his sabre though. "So what, you'll suffer the lash and mutilations but one evening with me, THAT'S what breaks you? That's the line in the sand you cannot cross."
He gave a mocking laugh, a laugh directed at her and with his free hand ruffled his hair trying to decide if he was going to go after her again.

"Well..."
Orchid bent his neck unnaturally and it cracked like a dozen breaking twigs.
"... if Queen Hannah won't go to the ocean..."
It was an old story of trying to avoid the unavoidable and of a sunken Kingdom.
"...Then the Ocean..."
Orchid grew almost twice his normal size, grew a mouth upwards through his face and head, his limbs split into branches of arms and legs some with claws and others tipped with scorpion stings or snake-like heads.
He was a mass of all things that stung, bit and clawed.
"...WILL COME TO QUEEN HANNAH!"
When Orchid moved after Fennec this time it was a chaotic tumble of limbs and flesh. Utterly inhuman in shape.

The moment he began to shift she sensed the rise in tensioned magic. The black mystes unfurled at her back instinctively and Fennec Vel Olera's boots came to a stop along the grasses of the hillside just beyond the edge of the forest. She always had weapons on her, but no sword this night. Her bow quickly left its spot crossing her body and in mere seconds had an arrow knocked. When Fennec turned to view just exactly what it was Orchid had become, the abhorrent disgust at what she saw rose frenetically from the pit of her stomach and set her teeth clenched.

How did this thing come to be an Initiate at the Academy? Who was responsible for its presence here?

She let the first of her arrows fly, aiming for the center of the mass. Then another and another in blinding succession, following its movement as it gave full charge.

The arrows struck, sunk into loose flesh which pulsates and spat them back out, blood dripped from the fresh mouths Orchid made of the tiny holes.
Orchid stopped his approach some feet away from Fennec, lifted himself up on his myriad limbs and spoke.
"WHAT'S WRONG? DON'T LIKE ME WITHOUT MY MAKEUP? HEEAHAAHAAW!"
Orchids voice was a repeated noice, an odd chorus of sounds from many mouths dotted across his form. Eyes as well, numerous and wide watched Fennec and her phantasmal tentacles.

The more she looked, the more pieces and parts she found. It was grotesque, and that was saying quite a lot for her considering all the hideous things she'd seen, experienced, and done to others. There was no way to inform him of the fact that she hadn't liked him at all from the start other than to sink a fourth arrow into him, aiming for a large eye near the center.

She didn't think it would do anything after seeing how the prior arrows had simply been spat up, bit it was a worthwhile distraction while her mystes formed together, surging forward following the arrow in an attempt to spear in and through him as one and then split and vivisect as many should they land.

"HEAHAAH!"
Orchid moved, that chaotic rolling tumbling motion of his directionless body landed him clear of the next shot of the bow and the tentacles, landing him at Fennec's flank with a speed that belied his size.
"MY TURN!"
The thing that Orchid now was reached out with a large limb that ended in a perverse viper/rats head and tried to snap at her legs while one that held a large wasp sting made for her torso.

For the second time that night, the whites of Fennec's eyes flashed at the sight before her. Not for the speed of it, but for the nature of the appendages now spearing through the air at her. Animal parts. This boy - no, this creature was not anything close to what the Academy or Vel Anir stood for. Perhaps the Revolution really had sullied the waters much much worse than they'd ever considered.

Where oh where were the eloquent words of Caeso Diemut when they were most needed?

A new myste surged forth, impossibly fast, between herself and the fleshy tendrils to form a shield of black that they both smacked against. The mystes she had previously sent after him furled outward, billowing like the countless stingers of a jellyfish as she rose from the ground. They surrounded her, growing in spread, prepared to slice and quarter whatever abominable extremity he threw her way.

All of his eyes went wide and in a voice not his own Orchid spoke, remarking to himself out load.
"HEAAAHAWHAH! ONE CANNOT REMOVE THE FEROCITY OF A TIGER,"
His limbs were cut and retreated back to him from the thrashing mass of darkness. It hurt but few wounds mattered in this form. It did not look like she could manifest fire or lightning so he wasn't particularly concerned.
"EVEN IF ONE PLACES IT IN A DIFFERENT ENVIRONMENT!"
In his current form and her manifesting power he thought they looked quite alike in silhouette.
A form of flesh and a form of darkness.
Orchid felt closer to Fennec in this moment. Perhaps closer than almost anyone else he'd met at the academy.

Eyes now full black and body surrounded by a heathenous darkness, Fennec stared down upon the grotesquery with a myriad emotions rolling through her mind in waves. He ... it, was clearly craven - so where did that line of his own exist between the face he played within the Academy and this monstrosity he'd become now? How quickly it had unraveled at a simple denial of his wants. How crazed it seemed now for purpose of pointless, useless savage violence.

[So what now?] her hands cut the message before her, [Are we to be two aberrant immortals locked in battle until judgement day and the trumpets sound?]

There was nothing to this dance of theirs. No purpose to achieve and no hand to gain. Fennec made no further move of attack. She orchestrated her movements, plans, and actions with such severity within her life to ensure they held value to her goals. This collision was pitiful and beneath her, but he seemed intent on it.
 
"NOW? NOW I am done with you."
Before he had finished the sentence his size was already returning to "normal" and his form with it. Immediately he gave a sigh. For he had torn his clothes again and what was left was dripping in the excess drool from his many maws which steamed in the night air around him.
"Damn it, mom's gonna let me have it again if she finds out."
Naked but for scraps and the cavalry sabre still in hand he tore the remaining strips of ragged cloth from his body and tossed them to the ground. Speaking to himself alone now and beginning to retrace his steps back to hopefully retrieve his coat as if Fennec in all her terrific monstrousness was not mere feet away from him.
"All the devils take it... where could it have gotten to?"

Unamused, the black receded from Fennec's eyes as she watched him unblinkingly.

He was done with her? Good. She preferred finishing tasks under-budget and ahead of schedule. They were yet two hours out from midnight. What an overachievement.

She remained aloft as he, in all his repulsive, naked glory trounced about muttering to himself of mothers, devils, and something lost. While Fennec had no direct impulse to assist him in securing whatever it was, her mystes seemed to find amusement in doing so.

One such descended from high above, dangling his coat within reach. Fennec watched it with tethered annoyance.
 
It took him a moment to notice that his coat was being held aloft by one of Fennec's tendrils.
It prompted him give her his attention again.
"Oh, cute. This is cute."
Reaching out he grabbed the coat from her manifestation and threw it around himself.
"Much obliged."
With himself as dressed as he was like to get he noticed she had not yet left. Now she was looking at him, still all up in her power like a big dark flower.
"What?"
He had what he wanted and assumed by now she would be well on her way. Was there more? Had something changed? He checked himself again, two eyes, arms, legs, all the right toes and fingers, no tail. He looked rediculous as he stretched and twisted to see what might he have missed.
"What?"
He repeated with a hint of an embarrassed laugh.

Fennec swiftly withdrew the offending myste, the countless others recalling slowly as they deposited her figure back to the ground while Orchid concerned himself with self-conscious wonderings.

She afforded him one final look-over, the stony expression of her blurred face forming no outward opinion.

[You have your deal.]

The mute signed to him.

[Do not bother me again.]

Her departure for the upcoming mission could not come soon enough. Perhaps it would come early, just for good measure. Fennec pivoted on her heel and made off up the hillside, black cloak swinging at her back.
