Within the city of Fal'Addas the elven conversations that surrounded Bubkiss were beautiful to his gnomish ears; Bubkiss thought the elongated words were pronounced with all the considered motions of a painter's brush across a canvas as he walked slowly about the city to take in all of the exciting sights. Elvish was not new to his ears as he had diligently learned at his master's instruction to appreciate the rhyme and verse within the language to aid the study of his magic, but to hear the stream of dialogue that ran so strongly here was entirely different in a marvellous way from listening to his master recite arcane tombs and theory in the language. Bubkiss smiled and breathed deep as a procession of elven merchants passed him and as they did so he detected the hint of spices he had never tasted and alluring aroma of arcane components which he had never handled before met his bulbous nose. The air itself was filled with the familiar scents of the forest life, a smell which Bubkiss had grown accustomed to having lived within Falwood for all of his life, but he felt so much more invigorated with the unfamiliar tones of bustling city life, cooking foods within taverns, spice merchants and daily elven life going on all around him. Masterfully created trees snaked upwards around the buildings of this ancient place, and it captivated the gnome. His short travel away from his home had brought him to the perfectly crafted place known as Fal'Addas, and with it, all the opportunities that an illusionist with uncountable items of power and ideas of creation could dream of if he had the courage, luck and wit to stake a claim here in the heart of the elves.

Bubkiss was a stark contrast to the well poised and elegant elves who walked leisurely about the place as they went about their lives. Bubkiss himself was of far shorter stature than the inhabitants of this place and he walked slowly and ponderously as he absorbed all he could. This was the first city the gnome had ever been to, his life had been one of seclusion and study until so very recently with the leaving of his master. It had been an interesting journey so far, but this, this was the true test of his entrepreneurial spirit, arcane prowess and mercantile dominion. Bubkiss carried about his person all the tools, equipment and components he would need about his belt, all sequestered in satchels and bags that deceived the world as to their depths. Indeed, it had been the last gift his master had given to him before they had parted ways so sadly, and without them his travels would have a far different matter entirely. Bubkiss knew he thankfully had everything his master had bequeathed him to aid him in his own career within the school of illusions. And so the gnome, dressed in his finest purple robes and tophat, did stride with envigored confidence as he considered where to setup the focal points towards selling his profession.

“Good as place as any,” Bubkiss said as he found a fourway junction in the middle of Fal'Addas and planted his cane firmly down to punctuate his decision. Some elves in regal robes did pass him with all the grace that Bubkiss so often lacked in his trudging. “Let's begin,” Bubkiss said as he picked an edge of the pathway to set his things down, his backback landing with a firm thud as he began to rifle within it to produce the relevant contents.

Within a few short minutes of work, work that Bubkiss had practised many times before his master's leaving to prepare one day for his own career, the gnome had laid out the guidelines of a tall tent. The golden canvass of the tent lay strewn about the guide poles which Bubkiss had staked in with firmness and with a snap of the fingers did the canvas rise up and wrap itself around the poles so that it stood much taller than the gnome himself. It had to be tall to accommodate the prospective elves who might find his pitch interesting, Bubkiss had accounted for such things. The golden material shone in the sunlight, iridescent from the rich materials imported from some far off place that Bubkiss had only ever heard of offhandedly and casually by his wealthy master. The gnome had inherited so much of his equipment from his master, and at this point of looking at his handiwork did he think that he wasn't quite sure where he'd be without the wealth of his former master. He reached into a satchel about his belt carefully and produced a heavy bag and a series of interlocking metal rods which he quickly snapped together with his off hand. He set the rods down so that they formed the base of his next construction, and opened the bag.

“Powdered silver, good for the master, good for me,” Bubkiss said to himself as he squeezed his hand about his cane and willed the next part into being. The bag began to glow a faint silver, and the gnome reached into the bag and threw the powdered silver above the rods. At once, the base of a grand mirror constructed itself, shining, splendid and ornate. Another fistful of silver particles and the mirror was completed with a satisfying hum to signify the artifact was completed.

Bubkiss approached the mirror and placed a hand upon the tenderly upon the surface, almost hovering above it so that he would not tarnish the perfectly polished material. He began to speak a few words of magic and willed his enchantment into the surface. Slowly did his magic begin to take effect, words of gold that etched themselves into the surface as Bubkiss performed his work. A surface to cast his tableux of skills, at first, a description of his talents. It read thusly:

'BUBKISS WIDEWALLOW, ILLUSIONIST AND ENCHANTER OF LIGHT, FOR ART, WONDER AND CREATION, COME AND HEAR MY PROCLAIMATION, MOTES OF MAGIC COLLECTED FOR YOUR INSPECTION, IDEAS YOU MAY HAVE MAY FIND PERFECTION, SO INQUIRE TODAY AND FIND YOUR DREAMS COME TRUE, SOME FASHION, SOME UTILITY, ALL FROM THIS ENTREPENUARE'S FACILITY, NO TASK TOO SMALL NO MANUFACTURE TOO AMBITIOUS, COME SEE BUBKISS WIDEWALLOW THE GNOMISH MAGICIAN!'

Perfect, Bubkiss thought. Just as I've dreamed of having somewhere. He walked into the tent, content with his advertising. The inside of the tent was bear yet flat, and the gnome opened a large satchel with both hands and pulled out a heavy orb of burnished copper. He set it down in the center of the tent and propped it in place with a small metal ornament he snapped together as he had done so for the mirror. The orb lurked powerfully within the tent, ready to be used as a scrying device for those who might be interested in his portfolio of skills.

“Now the gladrags,” Bubkiss said to himself within the tent, and tapped the rings upon his fingers together. At once his clothes shifted from the deep purple hue to a gold resembling the fineries of the tent canvass, his buttons shone with innate light and his tophat was brilliant to behold. “This razzle dazzle might not have been needed by Master Murk, but dang it, I want to do this right,” Bubkiss said to himself as he twisted the tophat upon his head a little bit so it fit just right.

He stepped outside and peered around. He considered loading a pipe of tobacco before beginning properly, but he thought better of it. Best act before someone inquired after me from reading the mirror, he thought. He began to work.

With a few arcane gestures that unlocked the threads of light which was the illusionist's to weave, Bubkiss began to cast a spell that began to take shape before him. A tree of silver light began to take root on the ground just beside the tent, it's branches adorned with pure white doves that preened themselves and flew from branch to branch as Bubkiss began to speak to the crowd in his most theatrical tone of voice.

“Ladies and gentlemen, before you is but a hint of the illusions I might summon for you and your task! Enchanting items so that they glow with splendour? Not a problem! Enchanting mirrors so that you may see yourself in the latest and most whimsical fashions? Not an issue! Scrolls, rings, clothes, boots, belts, books! Walls, roofs, windows! All may be improved with but a word or three from yours truly, Bubkiss Widewallow, a specialist in the illusionary arts! No task too small, no ambition too great to please you this fine day! You there sir!” Bubkiss said and tried to catch the attention of a passing elven mage adorned in deepest crimson robes, “Yes you! Care to liven up your robes with flames? Need to illuminate your studies with lights that require no burning or quenching?”

The mage ignored the diminutive gnome and carried upon his way. Undeterred, the illusionist continued, raising his cane to the sky. As he did so, the tree began to blossom with copper tinted leaves that fell in slow arcs about the gnome.

“Bubkiss is the gnome you want to see if you want to impress at an event! Festivals, weddings, funerals, musical gigs and theatre, Bubkiss does it all! My illusions will be sure to be exactly what you need! Step into my tent and discuss with me the light of your dreams, the magic that you didn't know you needed until now! And for those that might be interested, I do all such things at a very low rate! Sometimes free if the job is interesting enough! Sometimes mercenary work is not too shy for me!” Bubkiss said and looked around to see if he had piqued anyone's interest with his sales pitch. We all have to start somewhere he thought to himself as he scanned the crowd for anyone who might have taken notice of his display.

“Well done, my friend, well done!” Tielan said, clapping in appreciation and his tone jovial. “Those are quite excellent!” The rap of his wooden training sword echoed on the streets as he approached. His sandals, however, made no sound.

He beamed at the gnome. “That is quite excellent. There is certainly some things quite marvelous about such illusions.”

The old monk came to a slow stop and leaned on the wooden blade, resting its tip lightly on his foot. “I have traveled many places over many years, and those are certainly some of the finest I’ve seen.”

He leaned over to inspect the illusion of the silver tree, peering over the curve of his middle. “What do you use to make your illusions? Powders? Mental prowess?”

Tielan paused and considered, closing his hand and waving them toward the illusion. “Are they truly visible? Or only in our heads, hmm?”

Bubkiss beamed with pride as his first truly enthusiastic punter made his thoughts known. Applause no less! Wonderful Bubkiss thought to himself as he turned to look at his new company. Bubkiss brought his cane down to his side casually, and let the orb shift tone to soft tones of blue as it maintained the illusionary tree. He played with the lapels of his jacket as he spoke, as if making himself more presentable for his new company. The illusions that were cast about his clothes glowed with an ever present gold that shimmered as the gnome replied.

“Why thank you for your praise sir! Thank you indeed, yes. Why, what does Bubkiss Widewallow use to make his illusions? A pinch of imagination, an appliance of healthy wit, a cunning weave of reality warped, and my various sources of arcane power! This cane here,” Bubkiss said, and span his cane clockwise about his wrist before catching it deftly, “powers the tree you see before you! Oh yes indeed, this orb about the top of this cane can power a great many things. And so many more tools of the trade do I have to fuel commissions, tasks, and endeavors. The one who taught me bestowed a great many items that I use to fuel my efforts you see, one Master Murk! And as to to your other question, why, they are light, manifest! They do not play upon the minds of those who view them, to charm them into believing there is something there that is not at all, they exist! They exist and can be seen by all, from those with consciousness, to creatures of the animal kingdom alike!”

The gnome stopped affixing his lapels now and reached into small satchel for a pinch of powdered silver. His gloved hand held the material within the palm of his hand outstretched for Tielan to see.

“This powdered silver for instance can be used to enchant an item, and it would radiate for all to see! That wooden sword of yours, elegant as it is in it's current incarnation, can be shaped to make another image without effecting the heft or weight of it! I shall demonstrate!” Bubkiss cried, and gripped the silver within his palm tightly as he worked his magic.

Wisps of magic snaked about the gnome's boots and worked itself up across his midsection, the ethereal motes of magic gaining a fiery orange hue as it did so. As it curved about his body, it began to give a low humming sound as Bubkiss made his intent impressionable on the magic he was working, and the magic did snake upwards about the arm and hand he held the silver within.

“The wooden sword you hold, could appear as so much more than it's humble self! Observe!” Bubkiss said and let his spell be known. At once the silver within his hand trickled through his fingers upon the floor, and as it did so the silver evaporated upon the ground as water might within a cauldron. The wooden sword that Tielan was leaning upon began to glow as if a fire within it was being stoked, and soon appeared to wreathed in the loving tongues of gentle flame that did not bring heat or discomfort at all.

“No trick upon the mind, for it is light to bend and see, this flaming sword is yours for free!” Bubkiss said with a broad smile and leaned upon his cane as he awaited for his company to give him feedback on his latest illusion. "Merely speak the word, 'QUENCH' three times to douse such an illusion. It'll last for three days without such words friend!"

Tielan beamed and raised his eyebrows as he watched the display. "Fascinating..." He murmured to himself, stepping closer. "And all manipulation of light, you say? Even more fascinating."

He held out the training sword and watched as the Gnome worked his magic to transform it into carrying the images of the flame. Slowly, he passed his hands through it. He felt no heat or anything that would suggest it was proper flame.

Only in appearance from the light. "Marvelous, absolutely marvelous..." Tieland said at last, as he considered. "How long did you study under, this Master Murk, you said, yes?"
