Colette grabbed at him tighter now. The pain in her chest amplified by his harsh breaths and tears. Never in her life had she felt so utterly helpless in a situation before. Someone she cared about was in pain, was hurting, and there wasn't a thing she could do.
"It's ok," she croaked back. "You'll be ok, we'll figure this out."
How would they figure it out? There wasn't anything Colette knew about changing into a wolf. Until tonight she wasn't even certain that werewolves were real.
Now she knew that magic wasn't so dangerous, neither were elves, but that monsters did exist.
Just as she once feared magic or elves though she was forced to question if monsters were really so scary after all. Varo was, by his own admission, some form of monster. He didn't scare her at all. The opposite, in fact, he made her feel safe.
A gentle pair of lips touched his wet cheek. "You aren't going to hurt anyone. You aren't that kind of a person." Colette failed at stifling the tears just as much as Varo had.
