Personally I think splitting it up would be better. The other issue with having so many people is individuals lose a lot of their ability to shine and have their own little niche in the group. So splitting up the groups sort of deals with that issue and it can help with keeping the post count from being out of control.
Also we can throw the longer winded people together so the faster, shorter posters don't feel things are going at a snail pace.
