There was always somethin about finding one of Lucy's eggs hidden away neath one of the countless nooks and hideyholes the old hen liked to roost in, aboard the Lucky Star. A regular ol' game of chance. Was it good? Had it spoiled? No way of really knowing from the outside. Less you floated it in some water of course. Old trick he had picked up along the way. How much of the clutch would sink, the late night rogue wondered, his hair a right mess as he poured water into a clean clay bowl, dark rings under his eyes, and dark stains spattered across his pants.
Up three of the six went, lifted by the water line.
DJ frowned. Three eggs between the two of them wasn't much. But it would do. "Lil bit of rice to help it stretch," he reminded himself as he tossed the three bad eggs out the window. They plopped into the moonlit water.
His stomach growled, but the rice-pot had already been set to boil, and the wok was heating up on the cookfire. Nothing like a quick meal to steady the nerves after a bit of trouble. Least, that's what he told himself as he cracked two eggs into the bowl and started whipping them up with a bent old fork.
