Castle Greycloud. It was a truly magnificent sight. Situated atop a foreboding mountain, with fourteen gatehouses along the only route to the castle from the ground, and between these gatehouses was nothing other than a Zwinger, or killzone, two towering, machicolated walls on either side meant to rain down death upon any attackers trying to get to the second gatehouse, this repeated until one reached the main bailey (inside the inner wall) and at last they would be able to assault the four storey keep and seven storey Don Jon (great tower).

It was beautiful, only his uncle's castle, the castle of Sir Eberwolf Kinniger (yes Conrad is his nephew), namely Castle Wermacht. Castle Greycloud was magnificent. And it belonged to a vampire lord, which was even better for him, it meant there'd be thralls, pretty one's at that, for him to feast upon, and perhaps a few vampire ladies he might be able to tame.

He rode his black destrier (warhorse) through the fourteenth and final gatehouse to gaze upon the magnificence that was this castle. And the glorious feast laid out in the central courtyard.

The guests were also arriving, he wore his full plate armour under his long black coat, without the helmet or bevor of course, while most vampires who came here did not.

But not all guests were vampires it seemed. He spied four humans and an elf, a female elf. (You Dayana )

He decided he'd go and see why she was here, she wasn't terrible to look at either. He approached her and the vampire who's arm she held and bowed in greeting. "Good evening. Might I inquire after your names my good folk?"

Despite her large opinions Syvis was always good at playing a part assigned to her. This was just a job, and so she would play the innocent, docile, and submissive woman she was hired to be. These roles always disgusted her as she could kill her date in a matter of minutes, yet could never allude that she, a pretty girl, could ever do such a thing. So when the large man approached her and her patron she played just that role.

She twirled a curly silver lock around her finger and leaned into her patron and let out the fakest toothy smile of life and said in an alluring tone “Syvis. Pleased to meet your acquaintance” Gods above, that revolted her. Yet she still outstretched her small manicured hand in greeting to the man and prayed he wasn’t dull. She hated dull parties, and dull people.

“And you are?” she said still in that alluring voice as she cocked her head to the side to study the specimen in front of her. He was tall; muscular too. He also surprisingly smelt good. She guessed he had to be some sort of vampire as well, she wasn’t an idiot and knew what she was getting into tonight and felt bad for the low class conned into “dinner” without knowing they were in fact, dinner. Yet she didn’t feel bad enough to do anything really.

"The pleasure is all mine my lady." He said taking her hand and kissing her knuckles, like a true gentleman of course.

Then her patron offered his hand. "Earl Fredrik."

"Conrad. Conrad Kinniger." He said.

The last name made Fredrik's eyes go wide in disbelief. A Kinniger, a Kinniger that was also a vampire, that wasn't unheard of as many had been turned before, but afterwards they became suicidally aggressive, actively attacking full armies of the enemy alone, looking to die in the most glorious way they possibly could while dealing a blow to their enemy.

"So what do you think of the castle?" He asked. "Lord Bartolomeo must be exceedingly proud of this place."

Syvis felt her patron tense up at the mention of Conrad’s name. “A man important or dangerous, maybe both.” She pondered. She slyly unlaced her arm from Fredrick’s to be frank she hated this man with nearly every fibre of her being and it took all of her might not to scoff or roll her eyes whenever he opened his boring mouth.

“Well the castle is truly an architectural marvel. It’s a tad, how shall I say...dreary for my liking yet when filled with party goers it appears to be filled with life. Although I’m unsure of the...dinner arrangements.” Syvis spoke out politely, keeping her eyes on Conrad. She found him handsome and she most definitely found no pleasure in staring at her patron.

“What brings you here Conrad?” Syvis asked seductively.

"As is typical of most castles. A shame I haven't one of my own. Though I plan to have one built before long. And don't worry too much about being fed. Doubtless you know what we are though there are accommodations for the non-vampire attendees." He reassured her. "Besides, the guests are off limits for feeding on. Unless of course, they find such activities tempting."

“What brings you here Conrad?” Syvis asked seductively.

She was good at this, he liked it. He'd hardly let her pin him, not that she could, but he had no doubt that she'd be a fun companion if alone. "I had received word of this banquet and thought I'd attend, as it is open to most vampires of any repute. What about you my lady? What brings you to this place?"

“Hm a castle. Sounds awfully lonely to me.” Syvis smirked. Normally a patron would have left her be by now, such is custom. She walks in with them, dines with them, and leaves with them yet she is given time alone. She tapped on Fredrick’s arm lightly while she stared up at him with fake affections “I’m thirsty fetch me something to drink?” she asked to get Fredrick away from the conversation, not like he was contributing any.

As Fredrick walked away to find her a drink she responded to Conrad’s question, “Fredrick hired me to attend as his date. He wanted to show me off like a prize, and he offered me the right price. Plus who doesn’t love an opportunity to dress their best?” She smoothed down her bright blue dress. It was one of her favourites, it fit her shapely with long flowy sleeves to hide things if need be. She smoothed her dress on purpose to be honest to draw attention to herself, she enjoyed a good game of cat and mouse.

“Hm a castle. Sounds awfully lonely to me.”

"Not necessarily." He said with a smile. "A castle is a fortified home. It would be cozy as well as practical. Besides, who says I'd be the only one living in it? There would be guards, a cook, a few thrall servants and some tradesmen of various kinds to keep the castle and it's inhabitants well situated."

“Fredrick hired me to attend as his date. He wanted to show me off like a prize, and he offered me the right price. Plus who doesn’t love an opportunity to dress their best?”

He shook his head and tsked. "A prize such as yourself aught to be earned not bought. Please, allow me the chance to earn your presence tonight."

Sadly, that was not to be. The sound of portcullises opening and drawbridges dropping interrupted the night, while the sound of jogging feet came from the gates as a horde of soldiers, and yes, soldiers not guards or militia, came in.

They were all clad in uniform black brigandine armour and broad, well-fitted kettle-hats (type of medieval helmet). Each carried a spear and kite-shield, also painted black. These were the Dragoon Guards from Blackstone Deep, a prison belonging to Conrad's uncle in the Kinniger Duchy.

He doubted that his uncle knew he was here, he also doubted that his uncle was too involved in this particular move, likely only recieving a report on how many were captured, how many got away and how many on each side died.

Conrad reached across and drew his sword, a principe longsword. And prepared to fight. But upon looking at their numbers and remembering that the Kinniger forces had perfected the art of vampire slaying, and that the Dragoon Guards were the best of the best in the Duchy, he knew that their chances of survival were slim.

Ultimately, the castle was lost to them.

Syvis was mid-smile when the strange men entered the room.

Upon seeing them she started hiking up the fabrics of her dress like a mad-woman trying to locate something. Alas she found what she was looking for, the 12 throwing knives strapped to her right thigh. There was that lovely sweet spot between their eyes. She had no clue who these men were all she knew was they didn’t sit right with her gut so she threw at the line. She was no prodigy but she was pretty damn good hitting 5 soldiers in and around the eyes and another 4 in various locations of what little strip of flesh showed. She whispered through giggles “9 out of 12 not bad Syvis.”

She quickly remembered she was unarmoured and just severely pissed people off and did a little hop landing behind Conrad. She stood on her tip toes and whispered in his ear “Sorry, I need a shield and you’re all I got. Hope you don’t mind.” Her breath hot on his neck. She looked down and saw a knife strapped to his waist, and saw her opportunity and took it. She reached around his waist nimbly grabbing said knife concealing it in her left sleeve for easy grabbing.

She honestly debated throwing a steak knife at her patron in the midst of all of this but decided against. It's not good for business...sadly.

Five men were struck in their eyes, which really wasn't the best idea, it still had to go through the skull to do any real damage and even then it wasn't too likely to kill them, they were put out of commission though, so that's a plus. Four others were struck in the neck or the arms, which hurt, but those not taken out completely were able to power through, and still more poured in.

She stood on her tip toes and whispered in his ear “Sorry, I need a shield and you’re all I got. Hope you don’t mind.”

He Chuckled darkly, "not to worry my lady. It's no issue at all."

But they were ultimately defeated, she had hurt a number of them which meant that she was now unlikely to be released on account of not being a vampire like the rest of the mortal guests.

The Dragoons closed in, and before the hour was up, everyone that had been inside was in irons, and being loaded into wagons for transport.

It took three days for them to reach their destination. An octagonal wall of black stone, each point of the octagon supporting and tower, and in the middle of one of the walls was a gatehouse with two drawbridges on either side and four portcullises. Inside was a pit, a deep, deep pit of that same black stone. The prison of Blackstone Deep.

Conrad and her were put in one of the deeper cells. It was black, as could be expected, and they were both put in white garments to give them distinction from the guards and easy to spot against the back.

"Looks like we're sharing a bed after all my lady."

She snickered at his bed joke then her face crinkled into a frown. “White isn’t my colour, it drowns me out, makes me average, obsolete even. They take me out of rich colours and put me in this blech.” She said while she took out her old braids. “So is it true Vampires are cold? Alike to the dead? I’m cold enough on my own, the last thing I need is a man as cold as the dead beside me.” She joked as she finger combed through her hair. “Oh and please don’t eat me, you’ll need to take me to dinner first.” She further joked.

“Where are we do you reckon? And how do we go about leaving?” She asked her tone turning serious as she climbed onto the sad excuse of a bed. It was just wood planks with straw and a woolen blanket. Likely to bruise her. She knew leaving wouldn’t be easy but a plan would be nice. She patted the wood beside her. “Come,” she said as she sprawled on her back. "Plot with me, talk with me."

“Only some.” He said. “My particular strain isn’t that way. So cuddling isn’t going to make you colder.”

“Oh and please don’t eat me, you’ll need to take me to dinner first.” She further joked.

He grinned, and quick as lightning was behind her his lips only an inch from her neck. “Something tells me you’ll rather enjoy it if I decide to have a little snack.” Only a tease of course.

“Where are we do you reckon? And how do we go about leaving?”

“My uncle told me about this place, Blackstone Deep. Probably one of the most secure prisons in the world. Had you not sunk knives into some of the guards they’d have let you go since you aren’t a vampire. But you defended them so that makes you one of them in their eyes. As for escape, that requires some serious thought, and observation.” He said stepping away from her, he touched the bars of the door, then yanked his hand away with a hiss, the bars where he had touched them had turned red hot, and cooled down as he moved away.

“No wonder nobody’s escaped before.” He said shaking his hand out.

She knew leaving wouldn’t be easy but a plan would be nice. She patted the wood beside her. “Come,” she said as she sprawled on her back. "Plot with me, talk with me."

”No snacking.” She said as she curled into him.

“I have a pin somewhere in my hair. I haven’t picked a lock since I was 19. As for being a Vampire defender, I did that for me. Strange men invaded a dinner party, pissing them off brought me joy before they shoved me here. Plus you have to admit the quality time with me must be absolutely amazing.” She reached into her hair pulling out a pin. “It’ll work but we’ll need proper timing.”

She suddenly remembered about his hands and looked vaguely worried for a moment before she grabbed them gently kissing the palms. “What’s with the metal reaction?”

He looked at the pin and said, “I trust in your skill.”

She suddenly remembered about his hands and looked vaguely worried for a moment before she grabbed them gently kissing the palms. “What’s with the metal reaction?”

“Anchanted silver core I’d imagine,” he said, rather enjoying the attention. “Silver is usually good against the supernatural. And enchantments just reinforce that.”

“Tell me about you?” Syvis said, still holding onto his hands. She felt like a teenage girl, yet she reckoned when this was over they’d part ways and never see eachother again. Such is life.

The metal made sense, she didn’t think that they counted on many non-supernatural beings being in this cell because the lock seemed pretty basic to her. After she successfully identified the lock they placed on the door. She sat up one hand on Conrad’s and the other drawing the lock anatomy in the air. She was plotting. She'd need a couple more hair pins, but a perk of her head of hair is they weren't without.

“The lock is basic. It’s an updated warded lock. A key with proper shaped notches goes in, you turn and boom open. I honestly don’t think human esc things were supposed to be down here because it’s too easy. I believe they were counting on the silver. I can do it once I shape the pin and then we’ve a “key” . Silver may be an issue though..as it doesn’t agree with some elves either. Regardless, I’ll get the door unlocked” Syvis exclaimed excitedly flopping down again.

“Well, I’m the vampiric son to a vampire hunting family. In fact, the Kinniger family has warred constantly for nearly two straight millennia, my mother wedded a vampire lord before he was a vampire, then they both were turned together before they had me. He was a blue orc too, which is why I’m so huge.” He explained with a grin. “In more ways than one of course.”

“My strain of vampirism is close to the idea of incubi and succubi, we rely on seduction to get our meals, and I don’t know why but when we bite someone something about it makes the “victim” experience what is, I’m told, equivalent to orgasmic bliss. Which keeps them coming back for more.”

He stroked her cheek, “what about you beautiful? What’s your story?”

“Well, my mother, a married woman fell for the elven charms of my father, I’m the result of the affair. She abandoned me outside his door so I’m told and I’ve never heard from nor seen her. The one time my father spoke of her he said she was a dreamer head up in the clouds, and I was never to be like her. He really wanted a son but was cursed with me, so he brought me up as he would’ve a boy, meaning he was harsher than most. He didn’t understand nurture really yet we were always close until I started taking commissioned thievery jobs. He found out and shunned me, told me never to return. I left with 2 daggers, a coin purse, and a horrid dress I bought on a whim because that’s all he’d allow me to have. I’ve been wandering ever since.” She smiled, but it didn’t reach her eyes.

“Do you enjoy being a Vampire? It sounds lonely, like you’d never know if anything is real. A person could be devoted to you and only you but you’d never truly know if it was you… or just what they craved.” She said solemnly leaning into him even more.

“I’m sorry. My mother is the one who raised me, my father stayed away. She told me it was because he thought getting close to me would put me in some kind of danger, so I can’t really say I understand unloving parents. I hope you find a way to turn your life around my friend. Thievery can get you only so far. I can hardly judge, but I recommend that you find a way out of it as soon as possible, it’s no life worth living.” He said hugging her a little closer.

“It has it’s ups and downs. I enjoy it yes, but there are things about it I’d rather not have. And as for a person being devoted to me, I doubt it. Not many people want to wed a leech, and those I feed from are usually tavern wenches or barmaids, people I’ll only see a few times then never see again. It can be lonely, but I have an eternity to find the right woman for me. What about you? Have you found anyone who doesn’t mind you being a thief?”

“You’re not a leech.” She said quietly, “You’re just different. Leeches have no personality, and a leech wouldn’t grab me closer when I talked about my childhood woes. Do I necessarily want to drink one's blood? Not particularly but an average human has 12 pints of blood throughout the body and can survive with a mere 7. Their blood regenerates, I reckon at most you’re just hurting the amount of iron in the bloodstream.”

“ And no. I’m too arrogant and I care too much about appearances. Most only want me for a night. I suppose I’m not the type of girl men want to wed, I cannot cook, clean, and I dislike most children. So what use have I? I enjoy my own company fine enough I suppose and alike to you I have some time, as long as I don’t get myself murdered first.” She let out a dry laugh as she said the last part.

“I can’t get out of thievery. There’s nothing else for me, most women settle down or are skilled warriors and I am not fit for either, being a thief is where I fit. I do not rob the poor, for I know they’ll always need it more than I, but the rich are scoundrels and I have no qualms taking the things that they need not have to begin with.”

"I don't think you to be arrogant. Besides, there's more to love about a woman than her appearance, her cooking or her domestic skill. I'll hardly bed a woman I'm not confident I can tame, but I don't look at their domestic skills if I seek something serious, but rather their character. And you seem like quite the catch to me."

He shrugged. "Why limit yourself? I say you'd make a wonderful spy. Sell your subterfuge to a lord and you can do a lot more with your skillset for far more acceptable results and regular pay. And on top of that, you can steal what you fancy in the process."

"Anyway. Let's put off escape for a little while, this is rather enjoyable, just laying here with you. It's comforting.

Her hand lingered a bit before she moved it away. She was unsure if Conrad was the type of man your mother told you to look for or the type of man she told you to stay far from, either way he was weirdly comforting.

Despite his stature she fit nicely beside him and well, he was indeed comforting. He was almost like a shirt that fit you nice, but shirts were always disposable. It was best not for her to get attached she determined, just in case she was indeed just an epic conquest.

“I never thought about selling those particular skills of mine. I suppose the money is well too, yet attaching myself to one person of power seems..unsmart? Their demise is my demise. Yet it is very smart. Yes, very smart indeed.” Syvis said tiredly. She laced a hand into his her eyes heavy yet she was determined not to fall asleep first.

"I like challenges every now and then," he said with a grin. "But no, that's not why I approached you. I approached you because you seemed out of place, which usually means interesting. And it turns out, I was right."

Honestly, he didn't know which one he was either. Sleeping with a woman was the best way he could feed, because they'd naturally be a bit dizzy, both from the rutting and the blood loss, which excuses her drowsy morning. Other similar reasons were why he bedded so many, but he wasn't a bad guy at all.

"You'd be a spy, and your skills are rare and useful. If the lord is defeated, offer your services to the vanquisher or leave before you're caught. You'd be surprised how easy it is to outrun an army."

As for falling asleep first, she was out of luck, he Didn't actually need sleep to begin with. So he was still wide awake. Oh well. She'd probably be an adorable sleeper anyway.

“Thank you. I hate being seen as a piece of meat or as a man’s chattel, for I am my own person still not many people see me as that and it is infuriating. People don’t own people, no matter how much you pay them, torture them, or love them people do not own people.” She said groggily.

Suddenly her eyes shot open again and she sat up quickly turning to face Conrad still laying down. “When did you eat last?” She inquired. She was genuinely concerned sounding, not for herself but for him. Based on their hate of vampires here she was unsure if they’d offer suitable substance for him, she didn’t want to be his prey, yet she didn’t want him to starve either.

She should probably lay down again but it was getting to the point where even the comfort of Conrad was not outweighing the discomfort of the plank bed. She missed fluffy pillows and sheets, to be honest she’d rather use Conrad himself as a bed yet that is incredibly rude to say aloud. So she’d sit for a bit fighting exhaustion bit by bit.

Maybe she was indeed spoiled by the spoils of the rich but she enjoyed it, is it a crime to wish you weren’t in prison on a plank bed?? Yet the company she usually enjoyed was never like this.

He said, "to be fair, these people have warred against vampires, as in an actual vampire nation that had intended to enslave all of them, and the war started two, two and a half thousand years ago and only ended a couple years ago. They've had to study them to stand a chance. I don't know if they still do it, but that's what they did. And these men are under the direct command of my uncle Duke Eberwolf Kinniger, who won the war for the humane, and believe it or not, he doesn't see vampires as evil by nature. He just understands that most are evil and tries to contain it. Actually, if we get out and get to him, he might be willing to offer you a job as a spy for finding vampires. You did pretty good at the banquet on that front."

He of course had an amused grin on his face as he said this, and demonstrated.
