A Jötunn ((Old Nord: Jǫtunn), sometimes anglicised as Jotun (pronounced yōtən), plural: jötnar/jǫtnar, Jotnar, or Jotuns) is a rather broad term used to define a variety of magical creatures and beings. However, a more general term for these beings is Giants in the Common tongue. With that said, in Nord or more importantly, Nordenfiir mythology, these are known as nature spirits, large and small and is a member of a race with superhuman feats. The Jötunns have a deep-seated connection to the very magical nature essence of the world of Arethil and come in many shapes and sizes depending on their seed of origin.

Much like the species of Fae and other magical beings, the Jötunn utilizes the ley lines as a source of power, as they themselves are of magical origin. However, a common misconception when foreigners of Nordengaard hear the word giant, they often times think of creatures as big as castles or mountains. In reality, a giant could be all manner of sizes, depending on what type of Jötunn they are.
