The Academy

At this moment in his life, things were relatively smooth for Ademar. The man was still young with his age, and was one of the few Dreadlords that graduated and received the rank of Second Level. Immediately he outranked many Dreadlords in his class and others who were older than him.

His wants? Reach the rank of Archon and further his power, with a drive of war to match that. As a Dreadlord of House Virak, it was obvious he advocated for war and violence.

But Ademar did not expect this upcoming in his life...

...mentoring someone.

It was a tradition all Dreadlords would have to partake; mentoring an Apprentice and complete their training. Ademar did came to the infamous tower and observed all of the fights, taking notes of which Apprentice he’d take. Naturally for his taste he would select an Apprentice with outstanding physical traits, excellent use of magic, and great talent with weapons.

He was about to, but that all changed when the Dreadlord he wanted was killed by someone smaller than them. A waste of training it would seem; however, he found someone else he could train and invest in. The same woman that killed said Apprentice. Her display of strength and talent was not lost on Ademar, and he believed she was worthy of his time.

Jyn had not expected the fight to turn out the way it came to be. Of course she knew she would emerge victorious anyway, because if not she would be dead, and she wasn’t planning on dying anytime soon. However, she certainly had not counted on being matched against Julius, the huge brute and the largest apprentice in all of her cohort. Julius the Brute he was called, and for a great reason. The hulking giant was no joke, standing nearly seven feet tall and weighing more than she bothered to think about. Being under the weight of someone like that was an instant kill, with no chance of survival other than the use of certain types of magic.

Her mind went into overdrive as the two of them stepped into the fighting arena, a multitude of strategies and possible techniques forming and dissolving as she quickly decided on the best way of defeating such an opponent. The giant relied on brute strength and his movements were slow, and so her options were clear to her. She could either tire him out and wait to strike, or strike whenever she saw the opportunity to in quick and precise strikes, like an angry hornet, striking and retreating until their opponent was bitterly stung and defeated.

Unsheathing her blade, she got into a ready posture, dodging out of the brute’s wide swing of his mace, darting in and out range to land precise steady cuts on Julius, which angered him into making more wild and furious attacks. Wherever she could, she let loose with bolts of lightning at the giant, as he bellowed in pain as smoke drifted from the points of impact and the smell of burnt flesh began to waft into the air.

The arena was soon slick with the brute’s blood as his ever increasing wounds began to take his toll upon him, his body protesting as his swings became weaker and his bellows becoming more and more ragged. Jyn continued evading his swings which became weaker and weaker as time went on. Julius eventually collapsed for the final time, slipping on the mess his own blood had created, and this time he did not get up, his eyes shut as darkness claimed him for good. Jyn raised her blooded blade in the air in triumphant salute.
