“And why the hell would I do you this favor?” Jonathan asked, folding his arms and staring levelly at the woman seated at the desk. Emelia Bram barely spared the redhead a look, dipping her glass quill into ink.
“Because I’ve asked you to, and you owe this university.” Mayor Bram said sternly. “You will arrive there, learn what you can of the undead, gather samples, and give details about their college. We will invite one of their professors here to lecture so our students can study him. The House of Medicine has been asking me for an undead visitor. This gives us an opportunity.”
“So you mean to invite some poor stuff here, have your doctors treat him like some poor animal-“
“That’s not what I said, Jonathan.” Emelia steeled her voice. “The College of Eternum is well respected and has good professors. We’d do well to learn from them.”
“It’s what you meant.” Jon said, leaning against a bookshelf and picking up a glass orb. A pretty bauble obviously meant to be some sort of award, by the galaxial swirls contained within it. The fact he fiddled with it, smearing fingerprints all over it, bothered her to no end.
“Jonathan I do not have time for this. You’re going.” Emelia said sharply. “Please do try and act professional.” She bent back to her letter. “You’ll deliver this in person to the College. I assume you’ll stay and teach a course or two, learn the College.”
Jonathan rolled his eyes and tossed the orb into the air, snatching it artfully.
Emelia finished her letter.
To Whom it May Concern,
The City of Volta warmly invites the College of Eternum the opportunity to collaborate with one of our junior professors, one Jonathan Rufous Bram, in order to further your research in the area of Transmutation. We dearly hope you will send one of your own to Volta in return; all expenses will be happily covered by the University of Volta.
We look forward to your reply. If Professor Bram doesn’t suit your needs, simply return him with a letter of dismissal and we will make the assumption collaboration is not an option at this time.
Warm regards and deepest respects,
Mayor Emelia Rodham Bram,
Headmaster of the University of Volta
