It had only been a few days hiking south as she'd said, but as they'd come to the little inlets and bays the problem became finding a boat large enough to take Shisha, Tess, and however many other people needed to go down the coast. They'd hit three inlets already and come up dry so far with only one ferryman willing to take them, but at such an extortionate rate that Tess had to ask twice to make sure she'd heard the amount right. Frowning, she took a moment to sit on a rock looking out over the next bay and let her brain bounce around inside her skull as it tried to find a solution to their current predicament.

"So, we either need to hope someone here has a barge we can both fit on," she said aloud, kicking herself mentally for not thinking about this particular problem. "We could steal one that can more or less hold us, though that could be problematic. Or we walk, barring another option popping up."

It wasn't that Tess was against boat theft, necessarily. She'd stolen boats before. And carts. And wagons. And at least one magically enchanted carpet that she wasn't entirely sure if she'd sold it later or had it rolled up somewhere in her bag. The problem was boats were slow and the two of them were pretty noticeable. Stealing a boat would certainly get them to the portal stone, but would probably also net them a bounty and, while her four legged compatriot being a bounty hunter with a bounty on her head, it would definitely cause awkward conversations if they ever returned to the area, which Tess was liable to do while forgetting she had a price on her head for boat theft.
