The breeze increased enough that it shifted her dry curtain of red-hair across her face. Nudged some of the lighter objects around on the bathroom countertops. Plucked at the threads and folds of her dress.
She felt hollow and empty.
Worn and grated.
But most of all...trapped.
The wind snapped the bathroom doors open in a loud crash and then suddenly stopped at the touch of her brother's hand along her wrist. Strong and soapy digits. Golden-eyes lifted.
"I know," she whispered. She lightly entrapped his hand with her other and gave it a gentle squeeze, reminding herself it wasn't his fault. He was doing all he could do. More than any other male, besides Rhaener, would do in this court. And as important as family was to him it was just as important to her or else she would've run away a long time ago. Wordlessly, she stood, kissed the top of her brother's clean head, returned the brush, and left feeling as much a bird in a gilded cage more than ever.
