A magical Grove, the kind created by an intersection of the magical laylines, this particular grove is formed by the intersection of three magical laylines. Everything that grows here and everything that lives here is magical in some way.
The air is thick with magic, practically humming with it.

Selina stands in a clearing near the center of the grove regarding her opponent with critical blue eyes.
Selina is dressed in her college uniform, a dark blue tunic with a skirt stopping mud thigh. She wears her black raven feather trimmed cloak and hood and a satchel over her shoulder. Her staff, formed of twisted and shaped wood with gems, crystals, runes, and other arcane symbols and components set in it, is held in her right hand while her left hand holds her leather bound spellbook.

Her spells are prepared and in this magical grove any magic user or item is at the height of their power.
But she awaits her opponent to make the first move.

It was rare for the sorceress to engage in formal combat. However, it was always intriguing to see how a student of the college of Elbion would fare against a graduate from the Academie ars Magia.
OF course, she didn't wear her usual, by some standards insane garb, but instead, she wore the red and blue, gold-starred uniform displaying her rank of graduation from the Academie.

Of course, it would be a perfect time to begin the duel. »May I? « The sorceress bowed before raising her crystal focus.
Through it she channelled the magic of the environment, forming it into a beam of intense light, which carved a groove through the grass as it made its way towards Selina.

Selina nodded and let the mage cast the first spell.
The beam of light burned the ground on its path towards her. Normally she would cast an arcane shield but she decided to take a more active approach.
Her staff moved of its own accord while she held on tightly, it quickly levitated to the right and pulled her out of the way while the runes on the staff glowed and she cast her own spell.

With her outstretched hand a ring of six icicles appeared and then fired all at once like crossbow bolts.
Selina wasn't idle, as soon as the icicles left her hand she was chanting again to cast another spell in preparation for a counter attack.

(oops I forgot to watch!)

The beam of light tracked behind Selina, only burning away from the path when icicles were prepared around her opponent's being and shot at the sorceress.
Perhaps a bit of an unruly element this ice was.
In turn, the beam of light focused into a large spheroid resembling a sun up close that burned blindingly bright for that area. Neither Leonora could see beyond it.

And of the icicles that passed through it?
Magical water splashed against her academic wear. Disgusting, the fabric was rather delicate!

Her ice was blocked, it appeared this mage liked to use heat, perhaps something more specific but in the midst of battle she couldn't puzzle it out.

No attack was forthcoming but Selina decided to cast her defensive spell anyways, creating an intangible shell of magical energy around herself. Then she quickly switched to engaged again. In this entire time her lips were moving practically none stop as she was casting one spell after another. She aimed her staff and muttered the brief incantation.
A bolt of lightning lanced forth from the staff aimed at her opponent.

(sorry for the later reply!!!! :( !!!! )

The bolt of lightning surged through Leonora. Absolutely shocking, how could it hit so easily or was it a fluke of luck? Now was not the time to waste thought on that!

The illuminating glare of her crystal dimmed down into nothingness and her crystal emitted static charge.
She was singed and a little worse for wear, but the crystal focus in her possession was all that more electrified for it. Better lover the charge within its fold before it starts to destabilise.

Leonora angled her crystal focus, channelling its stored energy into a focused ray of light towards Selina.

(It's all good!)

Selina spotted the energy conversion before the beam of light shot forward and struck her waiting shield. The force of the attack spell against her shield forced her backwards, her boots skidding on the dirt as she tried to push back and maintain her feet.
She finally braced herself with her staff before she could be pushed into a tree.
That item was good for counter attacks, but she didn't wait for the energy and light to dissipate before she began casting yet another spell.

Her staff provided the fuel for her magic, it created a medium, a sort of invisible canvas for her to craft her spells.
She put her hand on this magical canvas and a magical circle of glowing amethyst light appeared, it was filled with runes in an unknown arcane language. She selected a few of those runes, speaking in the same language as she formulated her spell.

By the time the light stopped she was just putting the final touches on a magical circle the size and circumference of a small circular dining room table.
This was the building block of greater magic spells. A class of magic known for its difficulty to learn let alone control and usually had mind bending qualities.

Even before the magic light has been fully discharged, Leonora could see through the radiance further traces of arcane magic being drawn upon.

Of course, entry spells were usually mere showpieces, the true combat had only just begun (that is, still nonlethal, but Leonora will not point out her involvement in the acquisition of new harmless* moles.)
She had to prepare, but this time, she drew from her own power. Imbuing herself in a thin veil of glimmering light, a ward that will last her for at least one spectacular spell. Of course at the cost of only being able to rely on outside sources of magic for further casting for the time being.

She finished the spell and the circle shrunk down and wrapped around her wrist.
This wasn't an attack spell.
She stretched out her hand towards her opponent with palm forward, then clawed her fingers as she turned her hand clockwise.
From Leonora's perspective, it's like the ground just shifted underneath her, her gravity suddenly pulled her to the left, the ground became the wall beside her.

Selina remained upright while she manipulated her opponents gravity. It was like an invisible force was pulling her to the side.

Leonora stilted her pose slightly counterweight to the force, spreading her legs as much as her dress allowed and digging her heels in the ground.

Her ward did little to nullify such magic. She better prevent it before she muddies her dress-uniform in green grass stains! How disastrous!

The crystal within her hand still had charged up energy, but in more manageable quantities.
She rose the crystal, focused, aimed and charged a bolt of light towards Selina's face.

The bolt of light splashed over Selina's ward and dissipated, but it was enough. Her shield flickered under the attack and she flinched, her concentration broken. The magic circle around her arm dissipated immediately from the lack of attention and Leonora's gravity returned to normal.

They both still had plenty of magic to use, the Grove around them providing a nearly perpetual supply of magic.

Selina monitored the magic circle from time to time that held the runes of her ward. The symbol that indicated the wards strength, originally blue, was now orange after the attacks it suffered. It could take only a few more hits of comparative power before the spell would wear out.
She turned her attention back to the situation at hand. Her opponent hadn't yet attacked her in earnest, they were still testing out each other's strength's and weaknesses.
It appeared the light wielding magic user specialized in combative magic, even her ward was better use against an actual attack. More indirect spells would serve Selina better in getting an edge over her opponent.

Recovering quickly she pointed her staff and uttered a command word. Blue arcane energy lanced towards Leonora's ward of light.
After firing off the low powered spell she moved backwards, rounding a bend in the path and taking cover behind an ancient stone archway where she prepared more magic.
