Fable - Ask Do You Wanna Build A Runesaber?

A roleplay which may be open to join but you must ask the creator first
A wide child-like grin broke across his face as his eyes trailed over to where Ral nodded. The hilt look just like he had imagined it for all these years. Of course, there were parts where Ral had taken some creative liberties that came naturally from her own style, but it was what Alistair had expected.

He moved over and slowly reached out and grabbed the hilt. There was an unwarranted fear that all of his dreams would crumble in his hand, but the fear quickly passed.

This was a culmination of several years in the making. Also, a combination project from two of the best, if not the best rune mage initiates in the Academy. This was the big moment in the story where everything came down to this. Cue the dramatic music.

"Well, let's see then."

Alistair channeled some of his magic into the hilt and then activated the blade. Almost instantly, a blade of dark blue magical energy shot out and stopped to form a perfect blade. The blade had a sense of movement to it as the magical energy moved back in forth within the fixed shape, but the blade was strong and steady.

Alistair was speechless for a moment before spitting out.

"It's beautiful."

At his grin she raised a brow and slowly set aside her current project to turn where she stood at her workbench and lean back against it. Arms crossed, Ralene waited with tethered patience for the magic moment that a blade sprang forth from the hilt in his hands. The intensity of her blue gaze spoke of her own subdued anticipation. Hardly one to let her emotions run away with her, she found a certain level of endearment in Alistair's obvious excitement.

Like a dog that had just discovered it could fetch. A very smart, skilled, well-groomed dog.

The new toy of his desire finally sprang forth, and Ral's eyes followed the progress of the blade as it formed before her. A wonder, to be certain, filling her widened gaze.

"Fuck me sideways and call me Sally," Ral smirked and gave a bark of a laugh, "it works."

She looked to Al, her smirk growing into a crooked grin, "Well done us." Pushing off from the workbench, Ral approached, though kept a safe distance should it, you know, decide to implode.

"Let's test it, yeah?"

Alistair's eyes were focused on the magical blade in hand as he was careful not to move it too wildly. He was vaguely aware of Ralene as she spoke, but his mind was busy taking in every bit of information for the blade.

"Of course, it worked. It was us." He said gleefully as he turned to her.

He nodded in agreement at the idea of testing it. After all, if the blade could not be cut then this whole project would have been useless. He finally moved the blade in a fluid motion but was careful not to swing it anywhere near Ral or anything important in the forge. However, he quickly stopped as he looked at the blade with his brow scrunched in thought.

"Hmm, it's very light. There is a weight to it, but...it is almost minimal. That might take some practice to get use to."

Thought furrowed her brow as she regarded the arcane blade. It made sense there would be no additional weight to account for - a full void of balance at the fore grip. It was an odd thing to consider during construction, and though she'd made the pommel light-weight, Ral wondered if it would have suited him better for have a bit more weight to work with.

"Mmm..." was the only sound she made to the sum of those thoughts. Turning slowly on her heel, she stalked off across the workshop and took up a leather satchel to fill with a few odds and ends of materials.

"Let's go out to the forest," Ral then shifted her attention to a few older swords hanging on a rack. Early prototypes she'd made when first learning to forge. Though they held no sentimental value to her, she'd kept them on the odd chance they might be useful. Today was the day.

She strode over and chose two from the stand, "it's probably best if no one sees you with that thing. Especially not the Proctors."

The lack of weight wasn't necessarily a bad thing. Alistair would be able to swing this thing around with ease, but the weight was helpful to a trained fighter. The weight of an attack could tell you a lot about the way an attack might go...Still, the absence of weight had its own benefits, Alistair just had to get used to it.

He turned the blade off and watched as the magical energy disappeared like a fire that was suddenly cut off from its fuel source. Al placed the hilt in his belt, in a strap that he had added to the belt for this very purpose.

"Agreed, the Proctors always did have a problem understanding genius."
He responded lightly.

Although some more negative thoughts did fill his mind. They could confiscate the blade for their own study, or even take credit for it. If they did not know how to handle the blade then it would eventually break. The opposite could be that they forced Alistair and Ralene to crank out hilts like this, which wasn't necessarily plausible.
