Allir Reach - Vess

Kellen had never much liked the Allir Reaches. The little podunk towns that no one ever went to save to disappear, the farmlands, all the forest. He much preferred the cities, being around people, cloaking himself in half a dozen different ways. Out here? Out here he felt exposed, like he was constantly out in the open.

At the very least the People of Vess were friendly. Likely too much so for their own good, but hell he didn't much care.

Kellen was here to set up a warehouses. He needed a place to store some of his larger goods that the store in Alliria simply couldn't handle. Vess was about a days ride away from the city, but by ship that time was cut Into a third. He'd negotiated with the mayor to buy some land, now he just had to find laborers to build the damned warehouses.

It was a task that had beenproving more difficult than it should have been.

He'd managed to pay some to start the project, but they were by and large lazy, If not outright fools. Still, most of the warehouses now built, with only a small amount left to finish before the damned thing could actually be used. It didn't help that the laborers were slacking off again.

Apparently there was some commotion in town today, some talk of a Ranger coming to town.

Kellen didn't know much, but he knew it was yet again likely going to be another aggravation.

It was a bit of a hard finding a smuggler in a town this small. Kaska knew odds were half the town might be aware of their antics and tighter lipped for it. Small communities like this knew far too much about each others business, which made them loyal to their inner circles even to a fault.

And smuggling was a fault.

She stood outside the mayor's porch, frustrated and travel worn. He had given her a polite welcome and earnest offer of assistance, but gods knew if he knew more, he woulda already been dealing with the problem himself. She needed a drink... some food, and perhaps a chance to get these thick leathers off before the summer heat would sweat her through.

She turned to the only tavern. It was charming in a way, but just the same as all the rest she had ever laid her eyes upon. Dingy, sticky, and full of sharp gazes. She sat at the bar, waving for a round of something cold.

He had to round up those laborers.

Half of them were probably in the fields somewhere, and the other half at the local tavern getting drunk as they could before noon.

It was at a time like this that Kellen wished he could have just killed these people and brought in his own men, but that wasn't exactly an option. He was posing as a merchant, a legitimate one, and if people started to disappear there would be questions that he had absolutely no intention of ever answering.

Best to just keep up appearances.

Thus the young underlies stalked forward, heading through the muddied streets and eventually winding up at the only Tavern that Vess actually had. Without much thought Kellen slammed the door open.
