Private Tales Brothels and Broken Things

A private roleplay only for those invited by the first writer
Lexi had woken up at some point in the night and had quietly sent Kain to get some rest. She had moved away from the fire so that she didn't fall asleep again and now sat on a rock by the river. Her boots lay discarded to one side and she had dipped her feet into the ice cold water with her face tilted up to the stars. She had put Red on Alec on her way over and the two seemed besotted with one another in sleep.

It was going to be a long day tomorrow and she couldn't sleep for thinking of what waited for them when they reached the city. With a soft sigh she ran a hand through her hair and smiled as the wind blew it back across her face.

He frowned when he realised Lexi wasn't where she had been sleeping and he sat up again to look for her, a minor wave of panic quickly eased as he saw her sitting by the river. He looked over the others before getting to his feet and wandering over to sit himself behind her without a word, his legs at either side and his arms wrapping around her her shoulders as he buried his face into her neck with a sigh.

"Y'alrigh' lass?" he rumbled sleepily.

The Commander glanced behind her as she heard movement then relaxed a little when she saw who it was, her hand moving from the pommel of her sword that lay across her lap. As he wrapped him around her she leaned back into him with a soft sigh and shut her eyes for a brief moment. But even his presence didn't still her minds. She put her hands over his arm and gently rubbed the muscles there. For a while she said nothing in answer to his question.

"Mind won't shut up but otherwise fine, no fits still don't worry," she patted his arm with a soft chuckle. "What are you doing up you should be resting."

He found himself relaxing now as she leaned into him and he breathed her in, a long sigh escaping his lungs and his eyes closed. She was too much of a comfort to him and he'd have to get that out of his system, and soon. But for now...

"Mh?... You wanna talk 'bout it?.." he rumbled sleepily at her and nuzzled at her jaw. "Couldn't sleep. Mind wouldn' shut up either." he muttered and left it at that.

Her lips twitched slightly at the tiredness in his voice and she reached behind her to gently cup his jaw before letting her hand drop with a shake of her head. It was politics that would probably send him to sleep and would involve a quick history lesson of the past thousand years or so of the Templars. Better to leave him out of it so he could do his job. Just like she tried to leave everyone else out of it too.

"Go to sleep Cass, I've got the watch," her voice was surprisingly soft and gentle. She didn't make a move to push him away however, he could sleep here she would not complain. But it was beyond her for now.

Cassian's brow furrowed but his eyes remained closed and he grumbled at her words "Mh.. No. I'm awake." he sighed and tightened his arms around her a little and his head rested on her shoulder. He tried to stay awake, but she'd been like a strong dose of sleep tonic and his muscles and mind relaxed as he cocooned around her. He wouldn't move unless she moved him.

When she heard is breathing deepen and his muscles relax she said nothing and let him sleep. The weight against her didn't so much as phase her as she went back to her quiet contemplation of the events which were yet to come and of a man who she would allow to fall asleep on her.

Lexi gently nudged him awake as the sun was rising and then slid her way out of his arms with a light kiss to his lips as she did so. Then she strode with more purpose towards the group and begun making enough noise to bring them all around. It didn't take them long to pack up and they were on their way again.

Alec had decided to hold on to Red.

"I think we should all be given therapy kittens," he announced to the group after a few hours in the saddle. Lexi half glanced over her shoulder with a raised brow but her only answer was a chuckle.

The nudge roused him from his sleep and he rumbled a throaty sound of approval at the kiss. It made him a little less grumpy about having to wake up. He felt instantly colder as she slipped out of his arms, and he sat back to rub the sleep from his face for a moment before pulling himself to his feet and stretching the stiffness from his muscles. Sit sleeping on a rock wasn't the most comfortable, but at least his mind had rested well.

He grinned at Alec's words and nodded in agreement "You can borrow her whenever you need, lad. She's a disloyal little shite who'll go with whoever feeds her the best meat anyway." he laughed under his breath, though the cat did always seem to come back to him, which was unusual for him at least.

He took the last skin of wine from his saddle bag and took a drink of it before throwing it to Kain. "What you singin' today Blue Balls?" he quipped, feeling that the mood had to be lightened for the sake of Lexi's mind.

Alec seemed pleased by this notion and produced some jerky from his saddle bag and began to feed the cat whilst cooing over it. Peter rolled his eyes on Alecs other side.

Kain glanced over to Cassian with a slightly raise of an eyebrow before he followed Cass's gaze to where Lexi rode a little bit ahead and on her own. Realisation dawned on him and he offered up an impish grin before clearing his throat and launching into a particularly rowdy song. Peter joined in quite quickly, it was a dirty song.

"Oh Sir Jasper do not touch me! Oh Sir Jasper do not touch me! Oh Sir Jasper do not touch me!
And she lay beneath the lily-white sheets with nothing on at all.

Oh Sir Jasper do not touch! Oh Sir Jasper do not touch! Oh Sir Jasper do not touch!
And she lay beneath the lily-white sheets with nothing on at all.

Oh Sir Jasper do not! Oh Sir Jasper do not! Oh Sir Jasper do not!
And she lay beneath the lily-white sheets with nothing on at all.

Oh Sir Jasper do! Oh Sir Jasper do! Oh Sir Jasper do!
And she lay beneath the lily-white sheets with nothing on at all.

Oh Sir Jasper! Oh Sir Jasper! Oh Sir Jasper!
And she lay beneath the lily-white sheets with nothing on at all.

Oh Sir! Oh Sir! Oh Sir!
And she lay beneath the lily-white sheets with nothing on at all.

Oh! Oh! Oh!
And she lay beneath the lily-white sheets with nothing on at all.

And she lay beneath the lily-white sheets with nothing on at all."

Cassian rubbed at his brow at the song Kain hit out with, his head shaking but he couldn't suppress the laugh despite trying. When the chuckling subsided and he had his wine back, he took another long drink, and after a moment of silence, he quietly started to sing.

"Gypsy rover, come over the hill
Down through the valley so shady
He whistled and he sang til the green woods rang
And he won the heart of a lady

She left her fathers castle gate
She left her own fine lover
She left her servants and her state
To follow the gypsy rover

Her father saddled up his fastest stead
Roamed the valleys all over
Sought his daughter at great speed
And the whistling gypsy rover

He came at last to a mansion fine
Down by the river Clady
And there was music and there was wine
For the gypsy and his lady

He is no gypsy, my father, she said
But lord of these lands all over
And I will stay til my dying day
With my whistling gypsy rover.."

Alec leaned over and took the wine skin, took a drag and then passed it on to Peter before clearing his throat.

"I don't want to join the army,
I don't want to go to war,
I'd rather hang around Vel Anir's underground,
Livin' off the earnings of a high born lady

I don't want a sword up me arse 'ole,
I don't want me bullocks burnt away,
I'd rather stay in Alliria, in merry, merry Alliria,
And fornicate me fuckin' life away.

On Monday I touched her on the ankle,
Tuesday I touched her on her knee,
On Wednesday I confess, I lifted up her dress,
On Thursday I saw it, gor blimey,
On Friday I put me 'and upon it,
On Saturday I took her out to tea,
On Sunday after supper, I whopped me f**r up her,
An' now I'm payin' forty bob a week!

I don't want to join the army,
I don't want to go to war.
I'd rather hang around Vel Anir's underground,
Livin' off the earnings of a high-born lady.

I don't want a sword in my belly,
I don't want my bollocks burnt away.
I'd rather stay in Alliria, in merry merry Alliria,

And fornicate this bleeding life away."

Peter choked on his drink and wiped the tears from his eyes.

"Gods, Alec."

"No don't ask her she'll just bring the tone right down, vulgar mouth that one," Kain shook his head but he was still laughing himself after Alec's burst of song. Clearly the lad was feeling better and despite the politics that awaited Lexi, he and Peter were at least enjoying themselves it seemed. Lexi glanced over her shoulder at Kain's comment. It was clear from her face she had also been laughing at Alec's song though perhaps in a more restrained manner.

"I most definitely do but I think young Alec is about to take that title from me. How about one from the classrooms hm?

There was a youth, a cruel youth,
Who lived beside the sea,
Six little maidens he drowned there
By the lonely willow tree.

As he walked o'er with Sally Brown,
As he walked o'er with she,
And evil thought came to him there,
By the lonely willow tree.

O turn you back to the water's side,
And face the willow tree,
Six little maidens I've drowned here,
And you the seventh shall be.

Take off, take off, your golden crown,
Take off your gown, cried he.
For though I am going to murder you
I would not spoil your finery.

Oh, turn around, you false young man,
Oh turn around, cried she,
For 'tis not meet that such a youth
A naked woman should you see.

He turned around, that false young man,
And faced the the willow tree,
And seizing him boldly in both her arms,
She threw him into the sea.

Lie there, lie there, you false young man,
Lie there, lie there, cried she,
Six little maidens you've drowned here,
Now keep them company!

He sank beneath the icy waves,
He sank down into the sea,
And no living thing wept a tear for him,
Save the lonely willow tree."

Cassian whistled "Fuck me lass I regret askin'..that was grim!" he looked to Kain "She lowered the tone alrigh' , fancy lynchin' me over that tree there?" he nodded ahead and grinned, passing the wine...wine...too much wine....

"Don't go drinking with Lexi.
Sure you'll have a grand time all night long.
But if you're not used to drinking with Lexiiii,
You may not want to wake up at all.

They were thoughtful and kind when they invited me to drink,
A lone human among White Ravens.
They bought me a half,
Then another and one more, and told stories of days long gone by.
The brew was strong.
My glass never empty,
As if time stood still and rare.
But when I awoke the next morning
I found that my arse was bare

You may wonder how it all happened.
Well, I'm still wondering what happened too.
I had tea, dinner, and supper.
Quite full, I thought I was through.
They insisted I drink one more flagon
And drink to the health of new friends.
But when I go there, I met more of her friends
And the toasts seemed never to end.

When the sun it rose the next morning,
And I lifted my head from my drool,
There were beer mugs spilled on the tables
And the Ravens lay next to their stools.
A young Raven lass grinned cross the room
And nudged each of my new Raven friends.
Then sometime after second breakfast
We all started drinking again.

I left her a few days later.
My head was swollen and sore.
It felt like a dwarven anvil
After a terrible war.
I don't think I'll ever recover , from the food, the drink and the .... cheer.
Now I swear I'll never drink with Lexi again
At least until next year."

There was silence after Cassian's song.

Alec, Peter and Kain were all looking from him to Lexi and then back with a look one might give a cow when they knew it was on its way to be slaughtered. Then, Lexi began a new song.

"Oh, as Cass went home on Monday night
As drunk as drunk could be
He saw a horse outside the door
Where hisold horse should be
Well, he called 'is wife and said to her
"Will you kindly tell to me
Who owns that horse outside the door
Where my old horse should be?"

Ay, you're drunk, you're drunk you silly old fool
Still you cannot see
That's a lovely sow that my mother sent to me

Well, it's many a day he traveled, a hundred miles or more
But a saddle on a sow, sure, he ain't never saw before
And as he went home on Tuesday night
As drunk as drunk could be
He saw a coat behind the door
Where his old coat should be
Well, he called 'is wife and said to her
"Will you kindly tell to me
Who owns that coat behind the door
Where my old coat should be?"
Ay, you're drunk, you're drunk you silly old fool
Still you cannot see
That's a woolen blanket that me mother sent to me

Well, it's many a day he traveled, a hundred miles or more
But buttons on a blanket, sure, he ain't never saw before

And as Cass went home on Wednesday night
As drunk as drunk could be
He saw a pipe upon the chair
Where 'is old pipe should be
Well, he called my wife and said to her
"Will you kindly tell to me
Who owns that pipe upon the chair
Where my old pipe should be?"
Ay, you're drunk, you're drunk you silly old fool
Still you cannot see
That's a lovely tin-whistle, that me mother sent to me

Well, it's many a day he traveled, a hundred miles or more
But tobacco in a tin-whistle, sure, he ain't never saw before

And he went home on Thursday nigh
As drunk as drunk could be
He saw two boots beneath the bed
Where his old boots should be
Well, he called me wife and said to her
"Will you kindly tell to me
Who owns them boots beneath the bed
Where my old boots should be?"
Ay, you're drunk, you're drunk you silly old fool
Still you cannot see
They're two lovely geranium pots me mother sent to me

Well, it's many a day he traveled, a hundred miles or more
But laces in geranium pots he ain't never saw before

And as Cass came home on Friday night
As drunk as drunk could be
He saw a head upon the bed
Where his old head should be
Well, he called 'is wife and he said to her
"Will you kindly tell to me
Who owns that head upon the bed
Where my old head should be?"
Ay, you're drunk, you're drunk you silly old fool
Still you cannot see
That's a baby boy that me mother sent to me

Well, it's many a day he traveled, a hundred miles or more
But a baby boy with his whiskers on, sure, he ain't never saw before"

Cassian continued to drink, his gaze moving around each of them as they grew silent, a look of 'what?!' written on his face.

Then Lexi started to sing and he quirked a brow as it seemed she was hitting back. He continued to drink until the wine was gone, but his smile disappeared with it and he looked at the woman with a look of a man betrayed. The lyrics stung, but he forced a smirk as it ended and lifted the empty wine skin to her and tossed it aside.

"How long?..." he murmured to Kain.

Alec let out a low whistle and Peter coughed awkwardly. It was a well known song amongst them. In fact, it was often sung with her own name in it but to turn it like that was.... cold. Even for their Commander. Kain cleared his throat a little to answer Cassian's question.

"Probably another hour or two," the sun was already beginning to dip again past the midday point and on the horizon now the city was beginning to become a lot clearer. From this distance it looked like a large castle instead of a sprawling city with the way it was built. As if sensing the groups need for speed Lexi kicked her horse into a gallop along the river bank to speed up the journey.

It was sunset when the city of Evora finally loomed before them.

proxy.php

The horses hooves clattered as they hit stone after passing under the large archway that was the main entrance to the city. It had started off simply as a library back in the day, then the need for Scholars to live nearby, their families, staff, and more had grown until the library had evolved into a pulsating city. The main street ran like a helter skelter slowly up and up to till it levelled at the top where the core centre of the library lived. For the records could not simply be contained to one building and it flowed deep under the city in a complicated series of warrens and rooms.

Horns blared out across the city to herald the Commanders return and Lexi's whole form grew more rigid the further in they went. This should have felt like home but it did not when she saw the banner men of The Forgotten dotted here and there, loitering in doorways. They nodded as she passed but there was a dark and cold look about them.

"Alec, Peter, why don't you go and show Cass the barracks where he can settle in," Lexi murmured as their horses walked. Even her tone was flat.

"Sure Lexi," Peter glanced to his new friend. "You alright with that?"

He rode without another word until they reached the city, he gave a quick nod to Peter "Aye lad. Whatever the commander wishes." he answered and followed the boys until they stopped and he swung down from his horse to unsaddle him, and collected Red to let her curl up in his hood.

He took in the city with curiosity, glaring at people for no apparent reason which was the usual sort of stay the fuck away from me behaviour from Cassian.

"Suppose I deserved that." he muttered quietly to the two as they led him to the barracks, rubbing at the back of his neck. "Next time I have a full skin of wine.. don't let me sing."

Peter and Alec led them off from Lexi and Kain who continued further up and in to the city.

The barracks were a lot bigger than the other buildings on this level of the city and it was a hive of activity. People were coming and going in a mix of flowing White Raven robes and more suitable training gear. There were four buildings in all facing onto a large training field. The boys headed for the one towards the East with Cassian.

"We will remind you-"

"IF you tell us how exactly someone breaks the wall when... resting,"
Alec wriggled his eyebrows.

"In truth though she will be fine, it's just the stress of the others being here, look at 'em," the boys stopped and motioned to the Southern block which was the guest quarters. The men wore all black which was a stark contrast to that of the White Ravens. They seemed to be keeping to themselves for now. Their skin was crawling with black ink scrawl - sometimes on their faces, or on their hands or necks. The boys shook their heads before leading Cassian inside.

"You were in the Anirian army right? So we don't need to explain much about the Barracks - canteen is down there, rec room over there, everyone gets their own room. It isn't anything luxurious but they're relatively comfy," Peter began walking up the stairs after glancing at a notice on the wall, leading him two floors up and four doors down. "This one's free so it's all yours! Meals are when the bells ring but other than that do whatever you want," he shrugged. Alec flopped on Cassian's bed.

"So about those details..."

He took in his surroundings as he walked, subconsciously searching for a tavern of some sort. His mood had soured, and as like any other of Cassian’s many moods, the answer was alcohol.

Cassian snorted at Alec and rubbed at the back of his shoulder as he mentioned the hole in the wall but he said nothing, and looked over the black cloaked men. Any who caught his gaze were met with a scowl.

He nodded as Peter explained, but it was an environment he was used to and it didn’t seem too different, he’d settle to it well enough.

“Lads you know fine well that you’re gettin’ no details outta me. She’d string me up an’ gut me.” he huffed and set his things down in the corner, and Red ran down his back to jump onto the bed to nuzzle at Alec’s face. “Think she might be plannin’ that already mind you.” He rubbed at his brow and sat.

“I need a smith, and some new wears. I should probably keep out of her road for a while anyway.”

"Oh oh we can take him on the tour," Peter grinned at Alec who had grown quiet when the cat had come to nuzzle at his face. He scratched under her chin and rubbed his cheek against her head. However the prospect of taking Cassian out on the town so to speak had him sitting up and matching Peter's grin.

"We haven't had the chance to get the tour yet, it's usually the more boring Ravens buuuut our tour is much more fun. Do you need time to freshen up or anything first old man or are you ready to see how we really party here? It'll take your mind off Commander-Sex-On-Legs."

Cassian looked between the two as they spoke of the ominous 'tour' and he grinned, reaching a hand to Alec's head to shove him as he called him old man. "Enough o' that lad.." he grinned.

He shouldn't. He knew he shouldn't. Lexi wouldn't be happy, with him or the boys.. "Fuck it.." he rubbed at the back of his neck and huffed.

"Let's go." he jerked his chin toward the door.. "An' don' let her hear you call her that." he advised with a quiet laugh.

Alec laughed as his head hit the pillow, "it's ok, the truth hurts. We understand." Peter snickered also but wisely kept out of arms reach so he didn't suffer a similar fate. When he accepted their kind offer both boys grinned and leapt to their feet, though Alec made sure that Red was gently cradled against his chest and not disturbed. He gently dropped her back on the pillow; this was one night it was probably work the kitten staying out of.

"Yes! Let's go," Peter slapped Cassian on the back and guided him from the room. Alec was quick to follow, shutting the door and passing the key to him so he could actually get back into his room. If he remembered where it was or managed to make it there after the drinking session.

"Fine, fine. Right let's show you the town, do the boring bits first then show you the best bits."

Alec wasn't joking. The city was much larger than it felt when they had first ridden into town and there was a hum of activity as people went about their days. The two lads showed Cass to begin with all the major points of interest; the blacksmith where he was able to place an order, the shops where he could buy more clothes, the gardens and training grounds, the stables, they even showed him the beginnings of the library that the city had been built on top of to protect.

"And this," Peter said as they rounded a corner onto a large square. Noise was the first thing that hit them as well as yellow lights coming from the numerous bars and restaurants and stands full of hot food. "Is known as the Mess."

"Because it gets M-e-s-s-y!"

Cassian would most definitely not remember where his room was, but he took the key anyway. He took in the city and walked toward the square with an arm around each of the boys’ shoulders “Might as well get the practise in now lads, I don’t plan on being able to walk back to the barracks.” he grinned.

His gazed wandered over the bustling heart of the city and he licked at his lips greedily. Taverns, gambling, women... though his eyes rested for a moment on a fighting pit and he quirked a brow and patted the boys on the back. “First round is mine.” he rumbled and moved toward the tavern closest and ordered three jugs of ale for the table in the corner, a friendly wink to the barmaid as he slipped her a silver coin.

As Cassian went to get the drinks the two lads scampered to get them a table. They managed to snag one outside in the refreshing spring air that was surprisingly warm so they could enjoy the other activities going on in the courtyard as they enjoyed their drink. When Cass returned the boys had scooted the chairs to face more towards the square and the fire dancing by a group of three women. It was easy enough to see they were related with the same cat shaped dark eyes and dusky skin. They danced like their bodies were possessed, moving amongst the crowds that had gathered or sat at tables.

"These are the Jay sisters," Peter explained when Cass joined them, taking the mug of ale with a grin. "They're actually amazing fighters but they grew up in the gypsy lifestyle before joining the Chapter and they just love to dance still."
