Yue comes from a line of spiritualists who believe spirits reside in all things. She uses a connection to these 'spirits' for her spell craft.

Yue was born to the son of a lower merchant houses of Elbion attempting to strengthen trade ties in Dornoch.
Her mother was both a clever mistress and her father a less clever business man. In Dornoch her mother came from a long line of spiritualists. Merchants in their own right but with a much less concrete product. Her family are the long standing backbone of a residence and business known as the Jade Pagoda.
Among citizens their kind are revered by some and ridiculed by others. To outsiders it may seem no different than any of the other tall towers within the second wall if perhaps highly decorated.
The women who live within the tower sell a range of services some as simple as musical performances and games to those who can perform rare magics. No service sold at the Jade pagoda is cheap. When a member has achieved a sufficient amount of renown and made record sales then she is allowed to build an additional level to the top of the tower.
Yue was born from a line whose maternal side has long since claimed to be able to communicate with ancestors and wandering spirits. Her mother was well on her way to adding a level of her own when a merchant from Elbion approached her. Yue is not certain of the exact exchange but it provided her with the last remaining push.

Yue spent most of her life in the Jade Pagoda.
She underwent brutal training in a number of subjects. To a customer the pagoda is seamless and harmonious but to a resident, it is a cutthroat chaos. There is an unsubtle hierarchy just and unjust means are used to climb it.
Growing up in such an environment Yue learned to be weary and shrewd.

As a magic user Yue had already been honing her skills with techniques passed through her mother's side of the family.
She found that life in Elbion appeared a freedom on the surface. Despite being illegitimate and knowing that she might face an entirely different scrutiny she chose to apply to the Elbion college.
Seeing potential to raise their house' standing Yue was welcomed by her father's family with open arms and open purses. They eagerly supported her to enter the college of magic.

While she followed the requirements to the letter, there was certainly coin easing her entry into the college of Elbion.
