Open Chronicles Between a Rock and a hard place

"You're gettin' real good at this kid. Let's try some more."

The 'Violet' looked especially cheerful at the rather positive reaction he got from the 'Urchin', so he took another sip from the 'ayel' and returned it to the table as he watched the 'Urchin' start gesturing.

"Chair," he said. "CH-AIR."

The 'Violet' leaned over to look under the table at what the 'Urchin' was pointing at. Once he spotted it, he pointed over at it as well, and mumbled out, "char...shar...share...chayr...chair...chair!" He then sat upright again as the 'Urchin' started gesturing downwards.

"An' that's the floor. FL-OAR."

The 'Violet" followed the fellow's gaze downward and, spotting his foot tapping, he pointed over at the fellow's foot and started to mimic the noise that the 'Urchin' had made. "Flawr...floor...floor!" He kept staring expectantly over at the 'Urchin', up until he noticed the 'Urchin' seemed to be searching for something. At this, the 'Violet' started looking around himself too, wondering what the other fellow was looking for.

"Ah shit, where's the gold?" Urchin said, dropping down to the floor and quickly searching under the table. "Ah, Gods kid, dun tell me ya lost 'em. They ain't just shiny toys ya know, ya need 'em ta buy shit."

The 'Violet' looked surprised as the 'Urchin' dropped down and started searching under the table, so he pulled his seat out and brought himself down to the ground as well. He felt around under the table, looking back over at the 'Urchin' to see what he was doing every now and then, but he looked increasingly confused as the process went on. Once he heard the 'Urchin' speak again, he looked over at him once more.

"Oh," he mumbled with a sigh of relief. "... Where'd ya get that from?"

As the 'Urchin' pointed down at his coin purse, the 'Violet' followed his gaze. But the 'Violet' only really responded by looking back over at the 'Urchin' in confusion and gesturing to it again.

When the barmaid made her way over and started placing food on the table, the 'Urchin' quickly scrambled to get back to his seat, so the 'Violet' did the same, although with less urgency.

"Ah, nice!"

Once the 'Violet' was seated, he looked down at the food next to the 'ayel' and took a deep sniff of the steam rising off of it. He then swallowed his saliva and looked between the barmaid and the 'Urchin' with wide eyes.

"Thank ya Miss," he said gratefully, before picking up his knife and fork and using it to cut a big slice of meat. "Now this, kiddo, this is food," he told Violet, pointing at the contents of the plate. "FOOD. It's real good,"

The 'Violet' mimicked the 'Urchin' in picking up the knife and fork, and once the fellow pointed at the plate and said 'food', the 'Violet' seemed to recognize something and nodded. "Food!" he announced, pointing down at it with a smile.

After the 'Urchin' gestured for him to start eating, the 'Violet' started the convoluted process of moving the utensils around in front of him, trying to follow along with what the other fellow was doing. Despite how atypical his movements were, the meat seemed to cut very precisely, with almost no resistance, and the hard cheese seemed to spread onto the bread like butter. The 'Violet' even mimicked the hasty eating habits of the 'Urchin', although he seemed to have a bit more trouble chewing on the meat.

"Ya want some Mr?" he asked Yasuhiro. "Could ask the lady ta grab another knife an' fork if ya like... Do kit-soo-thingies eat people food?"
"do you guys want to got to Tanicburg with me, it a very nice place"
"Huh?" Urchin asked, raising an eyebrow in curiosity. "What's a Tanicburg?" he asked, considering the name. Tanic Burg... Sounded like... Titanic Burger? "It a place what sells really big burgers?"
"no its a town in falwood. we can take a carriage to Tanicburg"

The 'Violet' looked over at the other two as they spoke, and perked up just a little as the 'Urchin' mentioned familiar words, but for the most part, the 'Violet' just kept eating his food. The process was intensive enough with the odd experiment the fellow seemed to be doing with the manner in which he held the utensils that he was still barely catching up with the 'Urchin' even with his conversational handicap.

Yasuhiro said "no its a town in falwood"

"Oh," he replied a little surprised. "Falwood? Ain't that a bit far from 'ere? I ain't sure, I ain't good with maps. Can't read 'em." That was, he could look at the pictures and understood the concept of 'this is where we are' and 'this is where we are going', but since he couldn't read the actual names of the towns and cities, it made a map in his hands pretty much useless.

Yasuhiro said "we can take a carriage to Tanicburg"

"A carriage?" he asked, eyes lighting up. "I ain't never been in a carriage before. That's like the kind of ride what important people use. Like, proper Lords and Ladies an' stuff." It certainly sounded like fun. And Urchin did love horses... That said, his life on the streets had taught him to be skeptical of kindness from strangers. "What fer though?" he asked. "What's in Falwood?"

When Violet started repeating the words after Urchin, the lad beamed with a smile akin to the of a proud parent watching their baby speak it's first words. "Yer real good at this," he told Violet. "Pretty soon, you'll know all the words fer eveythin' in this inn. An' then maybe I can teach ya how ta put lots o' words together an' talk proper, like me! ... Yes, indeed, Urchin was a regular prodigy in the art of 'talkin' proper'.

"Let's try one now," he suggested, pointing at himself again. "I am Urchin," he said slowly and clearly pointing at Violet. "You are Violet," he added, then pointed at their new kitsune friend. "This is Yazoo-Hero." Poor Yasuhiro. Now he'd have two people who couldn't pronounce his name correctly.

Observing Violet eating though, Urchin noticed a few very strange things. Firstly, that she boy ate as if he'd never held a knife and fork before in his life. Secondly, when he cut the food, it was so smooth it was like he was cutting through air. "Wow, that knife must be sharp," Urchin said worriedly. "Ya be careful with that. Dun wanna cut yerself." There was something very, very strange about this boy. Well, lots of things very strange about him really. Urchin didn't care though. He thought he could recognize a pure soul when he saw one, and this boy was as innocent as a new born babe. Urchin would put money on that.

"Funny little guy, ain't he?" he asked Yasuhiro conversationally. "I really wanna figure out who 'e is an' where 'e came from an' that, but he 'ardly knows any words, so I can't naught but barely talk to 'im."

It certainly sounded like fun. And Urchin did love horses... That said, his life on the streets had taught him to be skeptical of kindness from strangers. "What fer though?" he asked. "What's in Falwood?"

The 'Violet' perked up as he seemingly heard something notable in the others' conversation, and momentarily paused his food consumption in order to mumble, 'tanicburg' and 'falwood' several times, seemingly until he got the pronunciation just about right. However, the 'Violet' went silent as he noticed the 'Urchin' looking back over towards him.

"Yer real good at this," he told Violet. "Pretty soon, you'll know all the words fer eveythin' in this inn. An' then maybe I can teach ya how ta put lots o' words together an' talk proper, like me! ...

The 'Violet' smiled a little, but the expression he had was slightly tainted by his confusion. He didn't respond to the 'Urchin' other than to keep staring over at him expectantly.

"Let's try one now," he suggested, pointing at himself again. "I am Urchin,"

The confusion that the 'Violet' had seemed to resolve significantly, and he pointed over at the 'Urchin', saying, "Eyam Urchin" as he did. However, moments after he did, he seemed to look confused again. "...eyam?..." he mumbled.

"You are Violet,"

The 'Violet' looked even more confused. He pointed to himself and repeated, "Yooahr Violet", but more hesitantly this time.

"This is Yazoo-Hero."

The 'Violet' hesitantly pointed over to the fox guy and repeated, "Thissis Yazooherow", but he still looked more than a little confused. However, seeing as the 'Urchin' started taking another bite from his food, his expression resolved a little, and the 'Violet' went back to eating as well.

"Wow, that knife must be sharp," Urchin said worriedly. "Ya be careful with that. Dun wanna cut yerself."

The 'Violet' looked up at the 'Urchin' as he started talking, and a bit of his confusion returned, however he kept eating. He looked over at the 'Urchin' a few times just to make sure he wasn't expecting something out of him, but once the 'Urchin' turned to talk with the fox guy, he seemed to then focus exclusively on his food for a little bit.

"Funny little guy, ain't he?" he asked Yasuhiro conversationally. "I really wanna figure out who 'e is an' where 'e came from an' that, but he 'ardly knows any words, so I can't naught but barely talk to 'im."

The 'Violet' seemed to be halfway done with the food on his plate by this point, but it seemed that his skills with the knife and fork had elevated substantially. He was now holding the knife approximately right, and even pressed down on the dull side of the knife to press the edge into his food. Further, although he was still holding the fork like a club, he seemed to be able to pick up his food more expertly with it now. The spectacle was slightly more normal, although the knife was still cutting a bit too easily. The 'Violet' peeked up at the other two for a moment before putting some more meat and cheese in his mouth but, seeing as they were still talking, he just went back to what he was doing.

However, the 'Violet' went silent as he noticed the 'Urchin' looking back over towards him.

Urchin was pleasantly surprised to see that Violet was already attempting some new words on his own. He wondered to himself how much Violet understood of the words he was saying. Was he actually picking up on parts of their conversation, or was he just repeating what he heard? He really couldn't be sure.

"...eyam?..." he mumbled.

"Yooahr Violet"

"Thissis Yazooherow"

Hmm. Maybe starting on full sentences wasn't such a good idea, Urchin thought to himself as he went back to eating, slicing a large piece of cheese and putting it on his bread before folding it into a makeshift sandwich and taking a bite. It looked like learning sentences was going to be a bit more tricky. He was making all the right sounds, but how was Urchin to explain the difference between 'you' and 'I' to a person who doesn't have any concept of pronouns? Perhaps he should stick to single words for now.

He was now holding the knife approximately right, and even pressed down on the dull side of the knife to press the edge into his food. For awhile, Urchin continued to eat his meal, though his eyes were fixated on Violet and how he ate. "Do it look strange ta ya?" he asked Yasuhiro. "The way what 'e eats. I mean, it ain't the eatin' what's strange, but the way 'e cuts it all up. Is almost like... I dunno." He couldn't explain it, but it was as if the knife and fork were more of an extension of Violet's body than separate utensils. It was very interesting to watch.

An idea suddenly struck the boy. Just an experiment, to see what Violet could do. He took his knife and fork away from his plate and put them down on the table, sticking his fork into the table and then sawing his knife along beside it, as if he were trying to carve himself a piece of the table to eat... Now, let's see what Violet did.

The 'Violet' was still eating some meat and cheese as the 'Urchin' talked about him. However, as the 'Urchin' started doing something interesting with the table, the 'Violet' looked over with surprise. He then looked down at the table with a look of realization and, moving his plate to the side, he took the fork, gently poked it into the table, and started slicing through the table with the knife.

Much like with the steak, the table appeared to be little more than butter before the fearsome fork and knife of the 'Violet'. The fork seemed to slide into the table as if it were little more than a thick stew, and the knife cut through it perpendicular to the grain of the wood as if it were a tender steak. It didn't even groan or splinter as the knife went through it.

The 'Violet' seemed to be satisfied after taking a small chunk out of the table, around the same size as a chunk of cheese on his plate. He then looked over at the 'Urchin' and took a bite out of the wood. The wood appeared oddly appetizing as the 'Violet' crunched a portion off of the small wedge that he acquired. In fact, it seemed kind of like a fresh-baked cracker of sorts.

That said, the contrast of the wood's texture with the ease through which the 'Violet' separated it from the rest of the table was alarming enough to draw some stares. A few of the other patrons of the tavern were now looking over their way in a mixture of confusion and entertainment as the 'Violet' swallowed the portion he already bit off. However, as he noticed the change in the expression of the 'Urchin', and in the increased attention with the other patrons, he started to look more concerned.

Urchin's eyes went wide in shock as his little experiment paid off and Violet actually managed to cut a large chunk out of the table using just a regular knife and fork. "Woah," he gasped, staring at the strange act in awe. Looked like he was right on the money. Violet, whatever he was, somehow had the ability to... Urchin wasn't quite sure... Shape other items according to his will? Perhaps that's why Urchin's clothes were all clean and good as new. It was a bizarre sort of power. Urchin had seen magic before, but absolutely nothing like this, and he had no idea where a power like this could come from. Whatever it was, it wasn't human.

Something even more strange happened then. Violet actually put the chunk of the table in his mouth and started munching on it as if that were it's intended purpose. It looked like it wasn't just the knife and fork to which Violet extended this kind of power. No human teeth could ever bite through wood like that.

Eventually the shock passed and Urchin came back to his senses. "No, no, no, Violet! Ya ain't s'posed ta eat..." But it was too late. Violet had already swallowed the wood. "Damn," he sighed. Hopefully the boy's stomach would be as resilient as his teeth seemed to be.

"What the hell is going on?" A loud, booming voice demanded, and Urchin turned around to see that not only were half of the patrons of the inn staring at them, but the inn keeper himself had seen their strange little antics and had come over to investigate. "You just took a bite out of my table, you little freak! I don't know what you are, but you're going to be paying for that! These tables are solid oak and they cost me a fortune!"

"He ain't a freak!" Urchin objected angrily, "An' 'alf yer crappy tables look like they're 'bout ta topple over anyhow. Leave 'im alone!"

"Don't you talk to me like that, you little runt!" the inn keeper objected, grabbing Urchin roughly by the arm and pushing him out of the way to focus his attention on Violet. "And don't think I'm blind, either. I saw your little friend over here drop those coins in your lap." He said, gesturing to Yasuhiro. "Probably paying for your services no doubt. Well, I don't give a shit what you get up to in the dark. Just give me that gold and we'll be square!" He demanded, shoving his big, greasy palm in front of Violet's face. "Come on! Hand it over!"

"No, no, no, Violet! Ya ain't s'posed ta eat..."

The confused 'Violet' looked back over at the 'Urchin' as he started speaking up. He looked concerned about something, and looked over at the 'Urchin' expectantly as his voice trailed off.

"Damn," he sighed.
"What the hell is going on?"

The 'Violet' looked even more nervous as the loud fellow started rushing around the other patrons to head over to their table. He quickly looked between the loud guy and the 'Urchin' as the fellow started to speak again.

"You just took a bite out of my table, you little freak! I don't know what you are, but you're going to be paying for that! These tables are solid oak and they cost me a fortune!"

"Don't you talk to me like that, you little runt!"

The 'Violet' looked even more nervous as the two fellows started yelling angrily at each other. He mouthed the word 'table' after the two said that word, but otherwise just flinched now and then as the loud guy raised his voice even more. As the loud guy reached out towards the 'Urchin' and pulled him away, the 'Violet' looked wide-eyed and leaned back a little, appearing quite intimidated.

"And don't think I'm blind, either. I saw your little friend over here drop those coins in your lap." He said, gesturing to Yasuhiro. "Probably paying for your services no doubt. The 'Violet' stared worriedly up at the loud fellow as he gestured animatedly, looking back over at the 'Urchin' hopefully every now and then only to flinch at something the loud guy was doing and quickly fixate back on him. After the loud guy held his hand out towards the 'Violet', the 'Violet' blinked a few times and looked inquisitively at the fellow's hand. He then looked down at the chunk of table that he had on his fork, and hesitantly placed it in the guy's hand. He then looked up at him hopefully, and commented, "Table?"

After the fellow's rather angry response, the 'Violet' looked worried again. However, once the fellow said 'table' and gestured down at the pouch hanging from the belt of the 'Violet', a look of recognition flashed over the face of the 'Violet', as if he understood something. The 'Violet' then pointed back at the table and at that very instant, it made a slight SNAP noise as the wood seemed to grow back into place, like some sort of spring-loaded trap. The 'Violet' then emphatically pointed at it again and commented, "Table?" Coincidentally, although it wasn't quite as apparent since it was obscured by the table and the tunic, the belt pouch that the 'Violet' was wearing vanished from his waist.

Poor Violet looked very uncomfortable among all the shouting and commotion, and did his best to amend the situation the only way he could think to. By giving the bar tender the scrap of table he had left on his fork. Rather than taking the hint that the boy clearly didn't understand much of the common tongue, the bar tender through the scrap of wood across the room and yelled out. "And what the hell am I supposed to do with this? I don't want that scrap of wood, you idiot, I want your gold! Gold!" he repeated himself, pointing at the coin purse. His hope was that if the boy was strange and simple enough to not understand the difference between eating food and eating a table, he wouldn't understand the value of coin and would be happy to hand over everything he had.

Unfortunately for the bar tender, Violet had other plans. Somehow, he managed to figure out that the broken table was the issue, and that the coin purse was what the bar tender required in order to fix the issue... But that was where the understanding ended. It seemed that he had somehow used he content of the coin purse and converted it into wood to replace the table. Such an act would've satisfied an honest man, but sadly the bar tender was far from honest.

"You think I'm going to fall for that little magic trick?" he asked with a scowl. "Whatever you did to my table, it'll probably fall apart the minute you leave. No. I'm going to need a new table to replace that, and for that I need coin. The coin you've got in your... Wait, where's it gone?" he asked as he looked at the empty space where the coin purse had once been. The bar tender seemed to get angrier with each second. Of course, he had no actual intention of replacing the table, he just caught sight of the gold and would use any excuse to get some in his pocket.

"I'm sick of these games, boy!" the bar tender yelled as he reached forward to grab poor Violet rather forcefully by the collar. "Enough with your tricks! You've caused me more trouble than your worth and you're going to compensate me whether you..."

"Leave 'im alone!" Urchin declared loudly, clearly seeing how nervous and intimidated the Violet looked to be yelled at that way. Without thinking, Urchin charged towards the bar tender, pushing against him with the full weight of his body. Of course, the full weight of his body wasn't much, but it was enough to make the bar tender release his grip on Violet and send him stumbling a little. "Run!" Urchin declared as loudly as he could, grabbing Violet by the hand and running towards the doors as fast as his legs could carry him, hearing the bar tender calling out for the guards as he ran. Well, now he'd gone and done it.

The 'Violet' tilted his head a little as the fellow looked down at his belt, and asked, "Table?" as he pointed back at the table. He looked even more confused and worried as the fellow started looking angrier, and shrunk back a little as the loud guy drew in a breath.

"I'm sick of these games, boy!"

The 'Violet' looked shocked as the fellow reached out and grabbed him by the collar, and he flinched a bit, but otherwise just kept sitting there and anxiously looked up at the guy.

"Leave 'im alone!"

The 'Violet' watched the spectacle of the loud guy stumbling back as the 'Urchin' shoved him, then blinked in surprise and quickly looked over at the food that remained on the table.

The 'Violet's' eye's widened as the 'Urchin' shouted that word at him. Almost instantly, all the food on the table vanished, leaving it remarkably clean, and the 'Violet' leapt out of his seat. He followed along with the 'Urchin' as his wrist was grabbed, although he seemed just as clumsy as before, regularly bumping into people and bouncing around as they rushed through the crowded tavern. The 'Violet' still looked worried, but he seemed a bit more focused now, and was eyeing the doorway that they had entered the building from.

Reactions: Urchin
Urchin sprinted from the tavern with Violet in toe, sprinting down the street and dodging passers by until they eventually came to the docks where Urchin continued to run until they reached a little harbor at the end. Leaning forward, Urchin took several heavy breaths, turning around to see if they were being pursued. They weren't. Seeing this, Urchin felt comfortable enough to sit down and catch his breath. He kept his ears open for the sounds of guards chasing him, but there were none.

Perhaps the bartender's threats had been just that, Urchin tried to reassure himself as he sat on the edge of the little wooden harbor, dipping his bare feet in the murky water. After all, what would the man's complaint be? That his table had been damaged? If any guards did come to inspect the trouble, they'd clearly be able to see that there was no damage left on that table, and what further complaint would the innkeeper have against them? No. They should be safe... For now at least.

"I'm sorry, Violet," Urchin said extremely apologetically. "Is my fault, I shouldn't have tested yer powers like that where other people could see. Trickin' ya inta choppin' up the table like that. Ya didn't know no better." Turning towards Violet, Urchin just inspected him quietly for awhile. He really was the most fascinating creature that Urchin had ever seen in his life. "How'd ya do it?" he wondered, more to himself than expecting Violet to answer. "I seen magic before. Lots o' kinds o' magic, but never nuthin' like that. It ain't like yer usin' magic, it... Well, it's like yer made o' magic. I dunno."

Violet was such a mystery to him, and a mystery that he had no idea how to get an answer to. "Ya know, I got some friends what know 'bout magic. Maybe they'll know how ya do it. What kinda magic yer usin'... Just wish I cold talk to ya with more 'n just little words, ya know?" he asked, knowing full well that Violet probably didn't understand a word he was saying.

The lad breathed a sigh as he continued to splash his feet in the harbor. He felt somewhat responsible for this young man who had saved his life, but had no idea how to communicate with others. This was a rough place to live, and left to his own devises, Urchin just knew that something terrible would happen to him. Either he'd accidentally upset the wrong person and get beaten to a bloody pulp, or someone would take note of his strange powers and use the boy to their own advantage. Either way, Urchin felt it was his job to take care of the lad until he was safely home... But where was his home? Did he even have a home? He figured he'd have another try at figuring that out. After all, Violet seemed to understand a few choice words. Perhaps Urchin could find a word that meant something to him?

"Home?" Urchin asked, since the word house hadn't seemed to mean anything to him. "Mama? Papa?" he tried, hoping that maybe Violet had parents who cared for and protected him. "Brother? Sister?" he threw some more options out to see if any of them would get a reaction. "Family? Friend?"

The 'Violet' continued rapidly stumbling along after the 'Urchin', practically getting dragged along the ground as they went. He still ended up accidentally bumping into a few people, but most people saw the 'Urchin' rushing towards or past them and simply took a step or two out of the way. Once they finally made it over to the harbor, the 'Urchin' let go of the 'Violet' and plopped down on a dock to catch his breath.

The 'Violet' followed along and sat down next to the 'Urchin', but peculiarly, despite their prior pace, the 'Violet' did not seem to be out of breath, or even tired for that matter. The 'Violet' then looked over at the 'Urchin' with a relieved, but still anxious look, and he became more attentive as the 'Urchin' started talking

"I'm sorry, Violet," Urchin said extremely apologetically. "Is my fault, I shouldn't have tested yer powers like that where other people could see. Trickin' ya inta choppin' up the table like that. Ya didn't know no better."

The 'Violet' looked more curious as the 'Urchin' mentioned a 'table', but he didn't say anything, he just kept looking expectantly over at the 'Urchin'. Once the 'Urchin' looked his way and started looking him over, the 'Violet' looked a bit more concerned, and commented, "Table?" Once the 'Urchin' started talking again, the 'Violet's concern dissipated, and he returned to his prior attentive look.

"How'd ya do it?" he wondered, more to himself than expecting Violet to answer. "I seen magic before. Lots o' kinds o' magic, but never nuthin' like that. It ain't like yer usin' magic, it... Well, it's like yer made o' magic. I dunno."

As the 'Urchin' used the word 'magic' many times, the 'Violet' started to mouth it. By the time the 'Urchin' finished his comment, the 'Violet' mumbled, "m-magic..." under his breath, and kept staring at the 'Urchin' with fascination and confusion. The 'Violet' then noticed the fellow's feet splashing about in the water and, seeing as he wasn't speaking for the time being, the 'Violet' scooted over to the edge of the dock and followed along. He dangled his legs over the edge of the dock and gently tapped the surface of the water with his shoes, looking over at the 'Urchin's feet every now and then as he messed around with the water.

"Home?" Urchin asked, since the word house hadn't seemed to mean anything to him. "Mama? Papa?" he tried, hoping that maybe Violet had parents who cared for and protected him. "Brother? Sister?" he threw some more options out to see if any of them would get a reaction. "Family? Friend?"

As the 'Urchin' started speaking again, the 'Violet' looked over at the 'Urchin'. He mumbled the first few words that the 'Urchin' used a few times after he pronounced them, but his expression seemed just as confused and interested as it did when the 'Urchin' was talking about "magic". The 'Violet' didn't have the slightest hint of recognition in his expression at any of the first few words, much like he hadn't for 'magic'.

However, once the 'Urchin' mentioned 'friend', the 'Violet's eyes widened. He repeated, "Friend?" immediately, and started looking around, as if searching for something.

Once the 'Urchin' looked his way and started looking him over, the 'Violet' looked a bit more concerned, and commented, "Table?

Poor kid. All that trouble had gotten him into because of that bloody table. And then that jackass of an innkeeper shouting at him all to try and intimidate the boy into handing over his coins. No wonder the little guy was anxious and confused.

Urchin couldn't help but smile as the Violet copied his actions. The boy was so curious and inquisitive. It reminded Urchin of a child. A really young child who was only just learning how to do basic actions by copying the behavior of his parents. He'd have to be careful not to teach the boy any bad habits. He didn't want Violet getting into any trouble on his account.

However, once the 'Urchin' mentioned 'friend', the 'Violet's eyes widened. He repeated, "Friend?" immediately, and started looking around, as if searching for something.

"Yeah, friend." Urchin repeated, glad to see that Violet recognized the word, and was looking around like he expected to see someone. "Ya looking fer ya friend?" he asked. Urchin then thought for a moment, wondering how he could ask Violet who and where his friend was in a way that the boy could understand. Eventually, he pointed at himself and then to Violet as he said slowly. "Urchin, Violet's friend." He then pointed to Violet and then to himself as he said, "Violet, Urchin's friend... Violet have more friends?" He then looked around the area as if searching for someone and asked. "Where Violet's friends?"

"Yeah, friend." Urchin repeated, glad to see that Violet recognized the word, and was looking around like he expected to see someone. "Ya looking fer ya friend?"

The 'Violet' looked back over at the 'Urchin' as he mentioned 'friend' again. The 'Violet' seemed somewhat confused, especially after the 'Urchin' repeated the word, so he just stared expectantly over at the 'Urchin' and waited while the fellow thought about something.

"Urchin, Violet's friend." He then pointed to Violet and then to himself as he said, "Violet, Urchin's friend... Violet have more friends?" He then looked around the area as if searching for someone and asked. "Where Violet's friends?"

The 'Violet' looked very confused as the 'Urchin' pointed to himself and mentioned the three words. However, after he then pointed over at the 'Violet' and said a few more words, the 'Violet' looked surprised, as if he realized something, then looked pensive after the 'Urchin's next question. After a few seconds, the 'Violet' commented, "...friend run away...Violet run away..." he then looked over at 'Urchin' and commented, "...friend..." he pointed to the 'Urchin' and commented, "Urchin...friend..." then he pointed at himself and commented, "Violet...friend..." but then shrugged and commented, "...friend...friend?"

"...friend run away...Violet run away..."

Urchin thought about that for a moment. "So... Are ya sayin' that ya had a friend? An' then ran away from ya? ... Or are ya talkin' 'bout me an' you runnin' away from that innkeeper bastard?" Whichever was that case, he really couldn't tell, though either way, it didn't look like Violet had anyone else to stay with, or anywhere to call home. Poor kid.

"...friend..." he pointed to the 'Urchin' and commented, "Urchin...friend..." then he pointed at himself and commented, "Violet...friend..." but then shrugged and commented, "...friend...friend?"

"Yeah, that's right, we're friends. Ya saved my life, so I owe ya one an' then some. Dun ya worry none, I'm not gonna let nuthin' happen to ya." But what to do? How was he to go about keeping such a strange and powerful person out of trouble? What type of magic was he even using, and where did power like that come from? How could he help a creature he couldn't even begin to understand... Then it occurred to him.

"Hey, I got an idea. How'd ya like ta meet a new friend?" he asked, getting to his feet and offering a hand to help Violet up. "You'll like 'er. She's real nice an' she's real pretty. An' she got all kinds o' special magic like you got. Am sure she'd love ta meet ya."

Regardless of Violet's response, Urchin took the lad by the hand and headed out of the Shallows towards the Raven Club in. Once inside, he headed straight over to the bar and sat himself on one of the bar stools. "Hey Ogden," he greeted the dwarf on the other side. "Can I get a couple mugs o' rum on my tab? Is Miss Eilerias in. Got a real special friend fer 'er ta meet."

"Hey, I got an idea. How'd ya like ta meet a new friend?"

The 'Violet' went back to looking fairly confused as the 'Urchin' started saying a lot of stuff. The 'Violet' mouthed 'friend' the two times the 'Urchin' said it, but as the 'Urchin' got up and reached out his hand, the 'Violet' looked even more confused. The 'Violet' looked around, as if searching for something, but ended up looking back over at the 'Urchin' in even greater confusion as he started speaking again.

"You'll like 'er. She's real nice an' she's real pretty. An' she got all kinds o' special magic like you got. Am sure she'd love ta meet ya."

The 'Violet' mouthed the word 'magic' after the 'Urchin' spoke it, but looked surprised as the 'Urchin' grabbed his wrist and started pulling him along. The 'Violet' quickly scrambled to his feet and followed along. Since their pace was slower than previous, and the walkways were even less crowded now since it was later in the evening, the 'Violet' only bumped into one or two people on the way to their destination.

Once they arrived at the new place, the 'Violet' took a moment to look around at the entrance to the building, before promptly being dragged inside by the 'Urchin'. The 'Violet' looked hesitant as the 'Urchin' pulled him further inside, and eyed the person behind the bar nervously.

"Hey Ogden," he greeted the dwarf on the other side. "Can I get a couple mugs o' rum on my tab? Is Miss Eilerias in. Got a real special friend fer 'er ta meet."

The 'Violet' looked over the fellow on the other side of the bar as the 'Urchin' spoke to him. He mouthed the word 'table', but didn't say anything audibly, and simply looked between the two with nervous anticipation.

The Raven Club was bustling with drunkards and people looking to gamble packed inside. It had become somewhat of an icon of the Outer City in Alliria recently, causing its owner Isak Lavelle to often be out of town securing deals with wineries and ale merchants. Still, it was always well guarded by mercenaries and his loyal friend Ogden especially when his love Eilerias had to stay behind to take care of her church.

Ogden could see the red head boy push his way through the locals as he approached the bar. "Bloody hell, lad. Your tab is runnin' a bit high don't you think?" Ogden returned the boy's greeting. He looked behind Urchin to size up Violet, ensuring he was no threat to Eilerias, before making his way to the staircase that led to the bedrooms upstairs. "Eilerias! The little red haired lad is here to see ya!" He shouted, hoping to get her attention.

Eilerias had been sick for what felt like weeks. Both mentally and physically. Being pregnant was kicking her ass. The morning sickness seemed to be never-ending, waking her up in the morning and keeping her up late at night. That was less bothersome to her than the rumors. She had branded herself as pure, just like the light. She broke her sacred oaths and now she had to face the consequences of being a disappointment to her syndicate and even those in her church. The only one from her church who stuck by her side without gossiping was her apprentice, Lidia. Unfortunately she had also sent Lidia off with Isak to assist in the event he got himself hurt on this business trip so Eilerias had been alone during the last few days to stew in her own self-disappointment.

She had finally been feeling well enough to sleep when Ogden began shouting at her to come see visitors. "Ughhhh..." She groaned as she pushed herself out of the bed. She looked over her appearance in the mirror. She still looked like herself. There was only a small bump where her previously flat stomach was. She made her way to the door of the bedroom and cracked it open. "Send them up Ogden."

"Aye!" Ogden shouted back before making his way to the bar again. "Right Lad and....Lad's friend, first door on the left up the stairs." He pointed at the staircase he had just been standing at the bottom of. "And..uh..be careful with Lady Priestess, she's not been well since....you know..." He said as he ushered them up the stairs and returned to his post at the bar.

"Come in Urchin!" Eilerias beckoned the two into the room that was lit up with candles. Isak had made sure to fill the place with light before he left so the strange shadows she was haunted by would leave her alone. "Who might this be?" She extended a hand towards Violet.

Well, now Urchin felt stupid. He'd completely disregarded Eilerias's delicate condition and should really have thought about that before intruding so late and waking her up. Oops. "Uh, dun ya worry none, Ogden, we wun bother 'er none." No more than they'd already bothered he by disturbing her rest, anyway.

"Come on, Violet," Urchin said as he guided the strange young man up the stairs and into Eilerias's room. "Evenin' Miss Eilerias," he greeted the priestess with a friendly smile. "Yer lookin' lovely as always. Glowin' even. I 'ope the little Eilerias has been behavin' 'erself... Or 'imself." It's then that Urchin pulled Violet forward. "This 'ere is my new friend Violet... Uh... Forgive 'im if 'e dun shake 'ands. I dun think 'e knows 'ow to... Or 'ow ta talk much, neither. 'E... Well, I ain't exactly sure where 'e's from. Or what 'e is. 'E looks human enough, but I reckon there gotta be summin' more to it. 'E got magic, ya see. Healin' magic, like what you got... But it ain't the same. See, when you heal summin', ya just make the bit what's fucked up better. Whan Voilet does healin'... Well, I were messed up pretty bad, ya see. But after Violet fixed me up, it were lie I didn't never 'ave a scratch on me my whole life... An' I were all clean too! An' my clothes was all clean, like they was brand new... An' 'e can do things like what no normal person can do. 'E cut a big chunk out o' a table an' ate it! Like, proper ate it up like it were a cookie or summin'. Then when the cock sucker innkeeper had a go at 'im, 'e fixed the table like there weren't never nuthin' wrong with it. Ya got any idea 'ow 'e does that? 'Ow magic like that works?" Poor Eilerias. Having a lovely rest, only to be woken up to Urchin's nonsensical mumbo jumbo.

He looked behind Urchin to size up Violet, ensuring he was no threat to Eilerias, before making his way to the staircase that led to the bedrooms upstairs. "Eilerias! The little red haired lad is here to see ya!"

The 'Violet' watched the short fellow talk with a fairly blank expression. The 'Violet' looked back over at the 'Urchin' as the short fellow headed over to a stairway, but remained silent.

"Ughhhh..." She groaned as she pushed herself out of the bed. She looked over her appearance in the mirror. She still looked like herself. There was only a small bump where her previously flat stomach was. She made her way to the door of the bedroom and cracked it open. "Send them up Ogden."

While the short guy was over at the stairway, the 'Violet' took the chance to look around at some of the happenings in the place. The 'Violet' looked hesitant, but intrigued as he looked over at the various games and energetic conversations that were being had around him.

The 'Violet' stared over at the short guy as he made his way back over. As the short guy mentioned the word 'friend' while looking at the 'Violet', the 'Violet' looked pleased, and nodded, although the gesture that the short fellow made thereafter seemed to confuse 'Violet' significantly.

"Uh, dun ya worry none, Ogden, we wun bother 'er none." No more than they'd already bothered he by disturbing her rest, anyway.

"Come on, Violet,"

The 'Violet' didn't say much, or even react, as the 'Urchin' said a bunch of stuff that the 'Violet' didn't seem to recognize, but he nodded energetically as the 'Urchin' started pulling him along once again. The 'Violet' nearly tripped several times as they went up the stairwell, but he survived the brief trip.

"Come in Urchin!" Eilerias beckoned the two into the room that was lit up with candles. Isak had made sure to fill the place with light before he left so the strange shadows she was haunted by would leave her alone. "Who might this be?"

The 'Violet' looked over at the 'Urchin' as a feminine voice from behind a door called out the word that he seemed to be identified by. However, as they got into the room at the lady gestured to the 'Violet', the 'Violet' looked confused and shot an expectant look over to the 'Urchin'. The 'Violet' stumbled a little as the 'Urchin' unexpectedly pulled him towards the lady a few words in to his response, but as the 'Urchin' continued speaking, the 'Violet' got more comfortable in the position he was standing in. In fact, after a few moments, the 'Violet' seemed to start tuning him out, and began looking around the room instead. He was still being held onto by the 'Urchin', but he leaned around to get a better view of certain objects in the room.

The 'Violet' turned back around at several points throughout the 'Urchin's explanation, and briefly looked like he recognized something at those moments, but he quickly went back to a slightly confused look, followed by a renewed interest in the objects arrayed throughout the room. The 'Violet' eventually focused his attention back on the lady, with his attention seemingly drawn to the lady's clothes, or perhaps to the bump on her abdomen.

Eilerias reached out to hug Urchin as he entered the room. She blushed as the young man complimented her. He was always such a charmer. "You'd better watch those compliments," She chuckled, "Isak could be back any time now."

She put her hand down, feeling a little stupid after Urchin explained he didn't know how to shake hands. She looked at Urchin as he explained Violet to her. He sounded a little crazy, but Eilerias wasn't there to judge. "He....ate....the table?" Her words were soft as she interjected.

Her confused stare flickered between Urchin and Violet as he finished the brief explanation. "Well...I presume he isn't using divine magic like I am to heal with...but there are many sources of magic that could provide healing talents." She stepped over to Violet and examined him. He was impeccably clean. Especially compared to how Urchin usually arrived to the club. "Where did you say you found him?" She looked back at Urchin momentarily before continuing. "And what exactly are you looking to do with him?"

"Does Violet speak?" She tilted her head to the side as she sat back down on the couch. "I'm going to be honest, I've never heard of magic that could clean your clothes." She laughed. "Seems like a good friend for you as you're always filthy when you come here."

She paused for a moment, "I am quite curious to see how he works though." Once again, she stood from the couch and made her way towards the wardrobe. She picked up a small blade and walked back to the two boys. Carefully, she made a small cut on the tip of her finger- enough to draw blood. "Can he heal this?" She asked, displaying her finger with blood running down it to Violet. "And clean it?"

"You'd better watch those compliments," She chuckled, "Isak could be back any time now."

"Ah, dun ya worry none, Miss Eilerias. I'll be sure ta keep my undyin' love for ya a secret. He wun never find out," the lad joked good naturedly. Though the boy would never have made the joke if Isak had actually been present. He had certainly found out in the brief time he'd known Isak that the man was fiercely protective over the priestess and would allow absolutely no threat or insult to her in his presence. Then again, considering that Urchin was a scrawny, 5'4 teenager who could barely string a coherent sentence together, he doubted he could pose much of a threat even if he wanted to.

"He....ate....the table?" Her words were soft as she interjected.

"Uh... Yeah," Urchin mumbled, turning towards Violet as the boy looked curiously around the room. "Ta be honest, I dun think 'e understands the difference between what's food an' what isn't. 'E even held up some garbage an' seemed ta think it were food. Dun worry, I didn't let 'im eat it."

"Well...I presume he isn't using divine magic like I am to heal with...but there are many sources of magic that could provide healing talents."

"Yeah, that's why I come to ya," Urchin explained. "Was wonderin' if maybe ya could find out what type o' magic 'e were usin'. Like, if it's human magic or elf magic or some weird kinds magic what normal folks can't use. Maybe then we could figure out how come he can eat a table without breakin' 'is teeth."

"Where did you say you found him?" She looked back at Urchin momentarily before continuing. "And what exactly are you looking to do with him?"

"Hmm..." the lad muttered thoughtfully as he continued to watch the Violet while he inspected the objects in the room. "Found 'im after 'e healed me up in some scummy alley where some right nasty folk left me fer dead. Will deal with 'em later. As fer what I'm gonna do with 'im. Well... I really ain't sure. I thought maybe 'e were lost an' I could 'elp 'im find 'is was 'ome... But 'e dun seem ta know the words for 'ome or 'ouse." Home or House to those who didn't speak fluent street urchin. "'E dun know Ma or Pa or family neither, so I ain't got no idea where 'e come from. Seems ta know friend, but when 'e says it, I ain't sure if 'es talkin' 'bout someone else or me."

It then occurred to Urchin that he should make a point to introduce Violet to Eilerias, since he probably had no idea what they were talking about. "Violet, this 'ere is Eilerias. EYE-LEH-REE-AS," he spoke clearly and slowly, most likely butchering the pronunciation in the process. "Eilerias is a friend. Ya remember friend?"

"Does Violet speak?" She tilted her head to the side as she sat back down on the couch.

Urchin shrugged at the question. "Only an 'andful o' words. Violet, friend, pain, food, table. 'Es gotten really good at table." Poor Violet. No doubt he was completely traumatized by tables now.

"Seems like a good friend for you as you're always filthy when you come here."

"I ain't that bad, am I?" he asked, his pride a little wounded... But then, considering his shirt was now about five shades lighter than it had been before Violet had cleaned it, perhaps he was a little on the filthy side. Urchin vowed to himself that he'd make more of an effort, now that he actually had access to clean clothes and the means to wash himself.

She picked up a small blade and walked back to the two boys. Carefully, she made a small cut on the tip of her finger- enough to draw blood. "Can he heal this?" She asked, displaying her finger with blood running down it to Violet. "And clean it?"

"Oh, Miss Eilerias, ya dun need ta do that!" Urchin declared when she cut her finger with the small blade. The woman was certainly a lot braver than he was, but perhaps one lost their fear of blood when they had the ability to heal injuries as naturally as Eilerias could.

Walking over to Eilerias, Urchin took the woman's hand in his, and held out the injured finger towards Violet, to make sure the boy could see. "Look, Violet. Pain. Pain bad. Pain make Miss Eilerias hurt. Violet make the pain run away?" he asked, hopefully.

The 'Violet' went between looking around the room at various things and looking back over at the lady and the 'Urchin' as they spoke, specifically on the rare occasion that one of them said a word that he seemed to recognize. Once they started looking at him more, he eventually noticed and anxiously focused a bit more on looking at the two as they spoke.

"Violet, this 'ere is Eilerias. EYE-LEH-REE-AS," he spoke clearly and slowly, most likely butchering the pronunciation in the process. "Eilerias is a friend. Ya remember friend?"

The 'Violet' looked over at the lady as the 'Urchin' carefully pronounced a word and pointed to her. The 'Violet' seemed to understand, and immediately started mumbling the word, eventually getting the pronunciation just about the same as the 'Urchin'. After the 'Urchin' followed up with his comment about friends, the 'Violet' looked confused, but added, "Eyelayryas, friend." as he pointed over at her.

As they started speaking again, the 'Violet' continued looking between them, and regularly mouthed the word 'Eilerias', or whatever other words they spoke that he seemed to recognize.

"I am quite curious to see how he works though."
"Oh, Miss Eilerias, ya dun need ta do that!"
"Can he heal this?" She asked, displaying her finger with blood running down it to Violet. "And clean it?"
"Look, Violet. Pain. Pain bad. Pain make Miss Eilerias hurt. Violet make the pain run away?"

The 'Violet' focused on the lady as she went over to one of the objects in the room and moved some of its parts around. The 'Violet' looked intrigued as the lady pulled out a knife and cut herself as she walked back over, but after hearing the 'Urchin's tone, the 'Violet' started to look more and more worried as the lady started speaking again.

The 'Violet' focused in on the 'Urchin' as he held out the lady's finger and started speaking. After hearing the 'Urchin's odd mixture of words, the 'Violet' looked like he recognized something and nodded. "Pain run away...blood run away..." the 'Violet' commented, reaching out a hand towards the lady. He gently took the 'Eilerias's hand from the 'Urchin' and wrapped both of his hand around hers, notably avoiding the site of the injury and the blood that was steadily starting to drip from the wound. Then, he closed his eyes, and looked like he started to focus especially hard on something.

Then, almost immediately, the lady's hand started to numb around the site of the injury. The blood that had been quickly oozing out from the small laceration, even the blood that had fell onto the ground, started to disappear, as if it were evaporating, but without leaving any residue. The wound itself then quickly closed up, pulling itself together as if it were someone closing their eye. Within moments, the injury was gone without a trace, but the 'Violet' seemed to still be focusing on something, and was still silently standing there with his eyes closed.

Over the next half hour or so, or until someone interrupted him, various random features of the lady's body and possessions started to improve. First her body started to feel rejuvenated, then her skin and clothing started to appear increasingly clean. The little bit of blood that had dried onto the knife from when she cut herself vanished. Then her clothes started repairing themselves.

Seemingly at complete random, several minutes after the last noticeable changes happened, the 'Violet' opened his eyes again. "Pain run away? Blood run away?" he commented, looking at the lady's hand, then looking over the rest of her body for a bit before nervously looking between their faces.

Reactions: Eilerias and Urchin
Eilerias laughed as Urchin joked about his love for her. "I'm just messing with you. Isak wouldn't lay a finger on anyone unless they truly hurt me." She thought back to the night she was attacked in her own home. She had been very upset to find out Isak burned the man alive just a few floors below them. She forgave him, but Isak didn't.

She smiled softly as Violet began to pick up that she was a friend to the both of them. "Yes, exactly! I am your friend!" She didn't bother to correct the pronunciation. She was satisfied that he even attempted it.

"I could try to help you figure it out. Though he seems a little...off." She continued to study Violet as he approached her bleeding hand. "He doesn't look elven, so its probably not elf magic...." She trailed off in her thought. He did look human, but his demeanor was so strange. But then again, how could a human eat a table and regenerate it?

"It's alright Urchin," Eilerias reassured the boy as Violet gently grabbed onto her hand. "I didn't feel a thing, don't worry about me." She chuckled as Urchin spoke single words to Violet. "Pain, yes. Pain." She played along, curiously.

Her hand had begun to go numb quickly. It was an uncomfortable feeling to have no sensation as she watched in disbelief as her blood had seemingly faded from existence. She was even more shocked as her some of the worn down parts of her robes had began to look new again as though she had just purchased it.

She even started to feel better than she had in over a month. She no longer felt exhausted as he continued, noticing small details changing in the room. The candles were no longer at their ends. The wax that had dripped all over was gone. "Yes. Pain and blood run away." She smiled, more out of nervousness rather than happiness.

"Well...that's not something I've ever seen before." She said after several minutes of silence. "Perhaps we can see if there's anything in Gwen's archive that would explain this interesting power. I'm sure she and Cleo won't mind if we stop by while she's out." She suggested to Urchin as she twisted her finger around, looking for any sign that she had previously sliced it open. It was perfectly clean.

She smiled softly as Violet began to pick up that she was a friend to the both of them. "Yes, exactly! I am your friend!"

Urchin was glad to see that Eilerias had warmed to Violet so quickly. Though of course, he'd expected nothing less. The woman was a saint, which is why Urchin brought Violet to her. He knew that Eilerias would be kind to the boy, and wouldn't take advantage of him in a million years, as opposed to other, less trustworthy associates with a knowledge of healing magic.

"Pain run away? Blood run away?" he commented, looking at the lady's hand, then looking over the rest of her body for a bit before nervously looking between their faces.

"That's right, Violet! Pain run away! Good job!" Urchin said with an encouraging smile. He'd been completely silent all the way through the healing process, just watching the subtle changes to Eilerias and her appearance. While before, she had looked beautiful as always, it was easy to see that she was tired and stressed. About what was to be expected of a first time mother going through a difficult pregnancy. Now though, she looked completely refreshed, as if she hadn't suffered so much as a headache. And her clothes, while relatively clean in the first place, did look a little cleaner and newer than before. And the blood was completely gone, as if not so much of a drop had been spilled.

"Well...that's not something I've ever seen before." She said after several minutes of silence.

"I know right, weird, innit?" Urchin commented. "At first I thought it were healin' magic, but that ain't 'xactly what it is. It's more like... Fixin' magic. Violet fixes things. Makes 'em better. Makes 'em like 'ow they would be if they were perfect. Dun matter if it's clothes or tables or people. Makes me wonder what else 'e can do."

Urchin considered that thought for a moment. What else could Violet do? What exactly did his powers entail? To Urchin, it seemed like he was altering whatever he wanted into the shape and substance that he wanted it to be. He wondered if that were truly the case, and decided that the only way to find out would be to test his theory. "Hey Violet," he said, plucking a flower from a vase on Eilerias's night stand. Probably a romantic gesture from Isak, now turned into one of Urchin's unfortunate experiments. "Can ya make this into food?" he asked, holding the flower up to Violet. "Violet, this is a flower. Violet make flower run away? Make food come?" he wasn't sure how much of what he was saying the Violet could understand, but he thought it was worth a try to see if he could actually change one substance into another.

"Yes. Pain and blood run away."
"That's right, Violet! Pain run away! Good job!"

The 'Violet' looked encouraged as they both reaffirmed the effects of his prior actions. As they spoke, the 'Violet' smiled and relaxed a little, although he kept expectantly looking between the two as they continued.

"Well...that's not something I've ever seen before." She said after several minutes of silence. "Perhaps we can see if there's anything in Gwen's archive that would explain this interesting power. I'm sure she and Cleo won't mind if we stop by while she's out."

The 'Violet' followed the gaze of the 'Eilerias' as she inspected her finger, but he looked back up as the 'Urchin' started to speak, turning his attention over to the 'Urchin' thereafter. He looked a bit more attentive after the 'Urchin' said words that he seemed to recognize, but otherwise, he just watched the 'Urchin' expectantly, as if he were waiting for something. The 'Violet' momentarily looked around the room again as the 'Urchin' started thinking once again.

Make food come?"

The 'Violet' immediately looked back over at the 'Urchin' as he started speaking again. Upon noticing that the 'Urchin' had moved across the room, the 'Violet' looked down at his wrist in surprise, but quickly looked back up at the 'Urchin' as the fellow walked back over. The 'Violet' looked more than a little confused after the 'Urchin' spoke, but he reached out and took the object that the 'Urchin' was holding out and inspected it closely.

After looking at the thing from various angles, the 'Violet' looked back over at the 'Urchin' for a few moments, then over at the 'Eilerias', and then turned towards the door and threw the flower at it. The throw was rather weak, but the flower still flopped against the door before falling to the ground. The 'Violet' then looked back over at the 'Urchin' with a perplexed, but nonetheless expectant gaze.
