The Gold Road, Goledlier's Road
- Nothing Yet
The Gold Road runs between the dwarven citadel of Belgrath and the trade city, Alliria. Most of the road is well maintained, looked after by the various villages, towns, and people that live along it. There are portions of the road that fall into disrepair and stay like that for long periods of time until a large trade caravan moves through. Near towns and villages the road is cobbled but in the deep wilderness the road is hard packed dirt or crushed stone.
Overview
The road extending northeast from Alliria used to be called Goledlier's Road. This is a dwarf word for merchant. The humans that live in the city and along it now call it the Gold Road.
Appearance
The Gold road used to be well maintained, paved in stone from Alliria to Belgrath. It has fallen into disrepair during the two hundred years it has been in use. Through the farmland near the trade city to the foothills of the Spine the Gold road runs. The road cuts through large swaths of wilderness but also runs through various villages and towns. It is arguably the safest and quickest way to get from Alliria to Belgrath.

The dwarf did indeed know Edmund's face but his name had likely slipped his mind. Either way the woman had paid for his drink. He wouldn't have to recall a tab. Bron gave a nod and poured Edmund's refill while speaking to the lady. "Where is this Kinallen located?"
She withdrew a sealed letter and placed it on the counter top and then did the same with her wide-brimmed hat. "The village of Kinallen lay to the northeast. Godelier's Road runs through it." The dwarf was stroking his beard. The crimson wax seal of the letter remained unbroken. The seal resembled a raven with wings outstretched. As Bronmaen examined the letter without opening it the woman's dark eyes found Edmund's face. "You have the look of an accomplished warrior."
"You mean the Gold Road. Those that make northeast in the direction of Belgrath no longer call it Godelier's Road. How many days travel is this town?" Asked the dwarf. She spoke without looking away from Edmund and the edges of her crimson lips curled up as she answered the tavern owner. "About three days hard ride." The dwarf continued to stroke his beard, in deep thought. "Everything is explained in this letter," she said with her heavily accented voice without looking away from Edmund.

"You will arrive along the old road. It winds with a troubling, serpent-like suggestion through the corrupted countryside. Leading only, I fear, to ever more tenebrous places. There is a sickness in the ancient pitted cobbles of the old road and on its writhing path you will face viciousness, violence, and perhaps other damnably transcendent terrors. So steel yourself and remember: there can be no bravery without madness. The old road will take you to hell, but in that gaping abyss we will find our redemption." - The Ancestor, The Darkest Dungeon
Bronmaen had done all he could to send the three off well. The dwarf seemed to have a nagging worry for them that he could not shake and yet he hadn't spoke of it any more since last night. Still his anxiousness for them was displayed in how much aid he gave them. Even when what he was owed outweighed the coin he had been given he didn't complain. He made sure they had more than enough provisions and that each of their mounts were fit and prepared for the journey. He was there to send them off and they would never know that he prayed to his gods for their safe return.
Seldom is their great difficulty at the start of a journey and this was no exception. The road was straight and well maintained. The weather was clear and cool considering how late it was into spring. The way was not deserted. Many others came and went along it and often they would pass caravans of wagons carrying goods for trade. At first the way wound through fertile countryside. Farms and small clusters of homes were strung along the path like pearls along a necklace. It wasn't until late in the afternoon that true wilderness closed in on either side of the road and shadow fell upon the cobbles.
The further they went, the less traffic they saw until it was just them. Bird song could still be heard from the leafy canopy. Now the way curved to avoid stream or fissure but it was still easy. There, in the deep depths of the wood a mist of swirling fog caressed the loamy forest floor. It was just at the very edge of their sight but growing ever closer as the sun sunk in the sky.
