Yara Lyrcrya
The wastes of The Blightlands are a terrible place. Barren lands filled with poisons, smog, tar pits, and desiccated vegetation serving as one's only change of scenery. If the groups of knife-jawed Mora’oiks don’t rip you limb from limb you may have the pleasure of coming face-to-face with a swarm of Rakdis gnats stinging at every pore of your body. Then there’s the roving tribes of Blight Orcs. If you’re lucky they’ll kill you for fun, if you’re not then they'll view you as their property the moment you step foot into the wastes.
…and if you avoid all of that you’re still in a miserable badlands with miles and miles of nothingness surrounding you until you reach Molthal, the most miserable city in Arethil.

Biography & Lore
Growing up in the Erdeniin Empire, several miles to the west of Dornoch in a small farming village, Yara had the privilege of living in a multicultural society that welcomed radical thinking, study, and learning about the world around her. At a young age her parents agreed to admit her to a prestigious school in Dornoch itself where she obtained an education far beyond her socioeconomic class.
It was at this university where Yara began to meet students whose parents came from wealthier backgrounds than she and who craved adventure. Upon graduating early, and being enraptured by these tales, she used her identification magic to obtain a remittance to journey with a band of young archaeologists and prospectors.
For years they would travel to exotic locales and uncover old tomes, magic artifacts, and evidence of past civilizations. The notes they collected went back to Dornoch, or even Elbion and Alliria, for further study or occasionally for auction. Most of her finances went into crowdfunding the next expedition with her group while the excess coin was sent back to Erdeniin to help her hardworking family.
Everything changed after they received that tip about the ruins in The Blightlands.
A few members of their usual team refused to travel to such a dangerous location but the stories they heard were so fantastic that Yara, and several others, couldn’t refuse the calling. Months of preparation led the team to hire a guide, two mercenaries, and an oxen for carrying their supplies. They set out and after a week or so of travel had made it to the site… only to discover it was far less ancient and interesting than advertised.
Then, the ambush happened. Blight Orcs from every direction swarmed them. They cut down the mercenaries they had hired. Cut down Ortu. Johan lost his ear in the squabble and the few survivors were pressed into crates, placed upon wagons, and transported elsewhere.
Each of them were separated. Each of them fed scraps. Yara drifted in-and-out of consciousness from the dehydration until she awoke for the first time in her new life.
The bunks. In the mine. A slave to a foreign people with no hope of escape.
