Over millennia, The Facsimile has seen the hands of numerous kings, veterans, and heroes of legend; with various chains and cages to hold it. At its best, it once stood as the crown jewel of an Emperor's Crown, and at its lowest, simply held in the hand of a would be thief on his last bit of luck. It has touched gold, silver, and platinum, yet for the last thousand years it has held itself tight in a magically infused metal that seems vaguely bronze in nature. The integrity of it however is far surpassed normal metallurgy, and as such it could easily be assumed it is extremely difficult to reproduce. With no record of what the metal is, nor how it was created, it is the only known example of it in existence, and study of it has proven futile in reproduction of it.

The crystal itself appears to be an Opal, yet it flutters in the presence of flames, altering its color on temperature and reflecting only the face of its designated owner. A small hollow point in the center holds its currently bonded owner's blood, taken during its initial ritual, and held until another comes to take it. In terms of beauty, the crystal stands on par with some of the greatest gems in the world; yet it is far smaller than some of the more sought after crown jewels, this one instead envied for its abilities than its blind beauty.​

To begin, the crystal requires a very small sacrifice to know who is bonded to. This is done through a simple blood ritual that involves pricking the finger on the edge of the crystal, to which the opal-like gem aborbs such and settles it within its core; though no immediate channels to it seem to exist. Once this has been done, it will offer a small glow and warmth before settling once more; at which point the owner will know it has been done. Once this bonding has been completed, that who wears it can unleash the first ability it is known to have.

For all its legendary status, The Facsimile as it is known in modern tongues is capable of duplicating its user in all manners physical. This means that once activated, depending on the energy reserves of the user, it can create innumberable clones capable of not only independent thought, but unified strategies through prior thought. This means that in combat, warriors of exceptional quality can create a small unit of their own clones, each with the same skills, memories, and morale; all at a moment's notice. However, while this has been recorded through history, and is its greatest known strength, the limits to its creation are notorious.

The greatest user of it, known as Hieronymus Aneth, was a spell-sword warrior who used the crystal to duplicated themselves thirteen times. This worked, for a short time, and allowed the legendary warrior to slay a dragon in 'single' combat, however the energy used to fight the dragon proved too much when Hieronymus attempted to consolidate himself and his duplicates. Ending in his death through sheer exhaustion, Hieronymus felt in his final moments the combined levels of exertion put upon each of his clones, and once he came back together the combined exhaustion turned into a single massive clump his body could not handle.​

Once known as Ozhgroth Rast, the necklace now known as The Facsimile was created by an ancient and highly advanced race of magic users known simply as The Ancients; that which came before and survived. Following the race's sudden and enigmatic disappearance, the ruins of their once great civilization became targets for raiding and treasure hunters over many thousands of years; for those lucky enough to find them, and smart enough to make it past the natural defenses of such. One such expedition led to the retrieval of the artifact that appeared to be an opal, which was then sold to a market.

A researcher of the ancient civilization eventually retrieved it in Alliria, studying it and coming to understand its potential. After trial and error, the researcher discovered the ability to duplicate himself following the blood ritual, and used this to full effect to read more books at one time, since any serious physical activity would drain him far more than he was willing to allow; or willing to risk. Eventually, after his death, the necklace would see ownership in innumerable members of society; from legendary warriors to kings and self proclaimed gods, and over thousands of years the necklace itself became a myth in of itself.

Eventually, the necklace wound up in the hands of a Lich named Rundall. After harassing a passing expedition, Rundall was forced to give up the Facsimile to a Sidereal Elf named Telemachus in exchange for his phylactery - something far more important to Rundall's survival. Telemachus concealed the necklace on his person and returned to Elbion with it, where it currently remains in his office.​
