Born in the famously nautical city of Myrios, Silas has spent most of his life at sea. The son of an unremarkable fisherman, Silas spent his early years sailing throughout the Gulf of Liad.

His father, the crew, and him would go on weeks long journeys. Capturing fish and selling them to every city they possibly could. He was a hard worker, and more importantly a dreamer. He knew early on what he wanted from life, and by the time he was fifteen knew that fishing would never get it for him.

Much to the chagrin of his father and despair of his mother, Silas left Myrios and joined a crew of merchant marines.

It was through them that he learned the art of naval combat, and through them that he began to thin the razor of what he would eventually be. It was also on this crew that Silas learned of his Knack, the innate magical skill that would in the future allow him to survive and thrive where others could not. A secret he kept closer than anything.

Four years into this journey, Silas was first introduced to the chaos of Teth.

The city of Freedom, as it's sometimes called was a complete marvel to Silas. How people carried themselves, the options available, all of it was an utter dream. It was everything he had ever wanted, and the decision was made there and then that he would eventually rise to the top.

Leaving his crew, Silas joined up with a band of Pirates named The Crimsons Sails.

Here he spent the next decade of his life. Working his way up from the lowest position to eventually being elected as Quartermaster, and then becoming second mate. Through dozens upon dozens of adventures, raids, and sleepless nights Silas became a fixture within the Sails.

It was on his thirtieth birthday that he was offered the Captain's place. His former mentor taking all his hoarded wealth and using it to retire to the mainland.

For the next three years Silas became an absolute terror upon the northern seas. The Crimson Sails swept across dozens of trade lanes and secret routes, taking merchant and military vessels for all they were worth. Not a heavy ship, the Sails became renown for their speed, efficiency, and brutality when necessary.

They took ships no one else dared to touch. From the Dynast's own Treasure Galleons to the Anirian Great Houses Frigates.

As his reputation grew, so did his enemies. Despite this, the renown he gathered pooled back into the city of Teth, and there he achieved his ultimate goal. Rising to become one of Brethren Court. Taking his place on the Council of Crews as one of it's most influential members.

It was, almost a week later, that Silas was betrayed.

Turned by their own ambitions, or perhaps a mountain of gold Silas was stabbed in the back by the very Court he had just joined. Thirteen of the twenty one which sat upon the Council betrayed him. They chased the Crimson Sail to the edge of the Blightlands, and there began their assault.

Though the battle lasted for nearly a day, it eventually ended with most of the Sail's crew dead. Only Silas and his quartermaster Vix Tel'Marra surviving. The two were dragged from the waters, tortured and twisted until they were stranded upon an island. Meant to starve slowly in their humiliation.

It was a fate which would not befall Silas, for his Knack would see him free of the isle to seek his vengeance. Though the same could not be said for Vix.

Skills and Abilities

Not exactly a magic ability, Silas has what he and his crew called a 'knack'.

This ability is not tangible, nor something that he could call upon willingly. But it is nevertheless and ability that has followed him ever since his adolescence.

Unlike most people, Silas does not need to sleep. In fact he is entirely incapable of doing so. Though he is fully capable of getting tired and even exhausted, Silas never needs to sleep to recover himself. Downtime, a good meal, and a little bit of ale is all he has ever needed to recover himself.

Additionally, Silas doesn't seem to need as much food as others to sustain himself. A single small meal is enough for a few days.

Where this ability comes from, or even how he got it Silas isn't quite sure of. The Crew of the Crimson Sails used to joke that he had been cursed. Marked by a seawitch and forced to live his life in the waking world, never allowed to touch the dreams that others find so sweet.
