Amadea Keverich Iscariot Magdalena Clematis (born Rubin 14, 358) is the secondary antagonist and/or potential rival of the Cherry Rose Inc. As a part of a rival group of the latter, she holds back her innate magic with fancy swordplay. Now aiding her patron, Amédée Lefroid de Obān, she's now adopted this new identity to adventure with the mortal world.

Appearance

Despite her newfound profession and goals, she’s rather young. Perhaps too young for being far in this profession. In this current identity she tries to be as nondescript as possible. She still has pale skin, but not pale enough to make it look like she’s some sort of vampire or porcelain doll like her last appearance. Her eyes are just brown and still has the same sharp look. Plus her hair is black with the mallen streak on her bangs. She still has her hair tied up, but in more of a braided hair bun.

What stays the same is her fashion sense. With this new identity of Madame Keverich Iscariot Magdalena Clematis, she believes that this new identity would act more flamboyant but not too ostentatious as her name would suggest. For some reason, it would be logical for her to wear armor but she refuses due to hyper sensitivity of such metals and hindering her fencing style.

What also stays the same is the scar on her left eye. While it doesn’t mean anything for people that never met her before, it means a lot to those she wronged in the past whether intentionally or unintentionally.

Personality Type: INTJ-T

Much of Amadea's personality comes with a few changes. In order to act much different than her previous identity, here are the key differences she at least tries to make:
  • She acts more mild-mannered than courteous, as if forgetting all proper noble manners and decorum and preferring something much more grounded and socially acceptable. When it matters she’ll try her best to remember the proper noble manners and decorum. Though, not without struggling as most of her mind is preoccupied with ideas on her new identity.
  • Amadea is much more expressive than the previous counterpart, being able to lightly smile at appropriate times while being capable of being shocked or embarrassed. In turn, she's less seemingly snobbish by dialing down the professionalism slightly. This in part of trying to come out of her shell, albeit like a snail finally moving from said shell: it’s slowly but surely getting there.
  • While not a significant difference, she's more in her thoughts and willingly to act on these thoughts. She seems to judge things by her confidence in the topic or imagining how it will happen, even if it's something she knows nothing about. This is mostly because she’s more in tune with her imaginative side than her analytical side.

Items and Possessions

Jiàn of the Gryphon (劍)
A double edged straight sword that's longer and thinner than the traditional jian. Amadea makes it more practical by adding various ribbons that swirl and stay in a certain fixed position where it mimics the swept-hilt rapier. The griffon aesthetic of the handguard enables the wielder to become more airborne when demanded, unlocking more physics-defying flips for Amadea. While made to last for centuries without any form of maintenance, it can also keep track of enemies that Amadea has incapacitated, using it as a price for magic. For every kill is a sacrifice.

Instrument Case of the Overworking Musician
This instrument case is a glorified version of the common magical bags. While it shrinks items down that fit the palm of human hands, this doesn’t seem to affect the weight though. It assists her to help fit all sorts of instruments and rune tools. Despite being made to fit any sorts of instruments, it doesn’t stop her from stuffing junk into it, though. It’s mostly used as a convenient excuse for Amadea to pull out any instrument.

Finger picks
Elegantly made for plucking elegant instruments playing the sounds of elegant music. Amadea on the other hand found it useful for picking locks or latching onto things easier.

Runecarver’s tools
A belt pouch filled with sculptor’s set of chisels, rasp and bankers along with adhesives to make runes stick. Comes with a manual of electric runes.

Abilities

While she lose out on most conventional bardic abilities, she goes on an alternative way of being more focus on "performing arts". Using her savoir-faire, she tries to follow her friend's shoes by being more spontaneous and be more quick to act on daring situations.

My Name Is Amadea Clematis

Madame Amadea Iscariot Clematis — Just saying the name feels like tasting gâteau St-Honoré in your manor near the beach shore: sweet, fancy, yet, possibly stormy. It’s not on the level of fancy as the Empire with their Great Seven Cities but, enough to put people at awe by the sound of it. Whenever Amadea has to resort to fighting, she’ll say her name or make a flashy introduction. Just enough to make people flabbergasted and give all of her and her allies enough time to prepare themselves and act on the surprise of their enemies.

My Plan Is Not To Get Killed
She got her own classy name. To be Madame Clematis, what would Madame Clematis be? What would she be good at? But of course! A master swordswoman — no, a wizard swordswoman (wizard is basically like a rank above master). She can also be a dashing rogue, a caped crusader who always fights with such finesse and unparalleled agility. Although, all of that sounds broad though… as anyone can be all of that. Basically 99.99% of people in Arethil can fight masterfully with a sword and if not, magic. So what can Madame Clematis do that no other master can?
Amadea’s Narrative-Changing Tropes & Clichés
I Am Not Left-Handed — When someone thinks they’re better than Madame Clematis, it’s time to take it up a notch. Always holding back in combat, Amadea can decide to remove the handicap she put on herself to gain the upper hand. This will drive back foes and second guess themselves, but only for the first time.Nobody Knew Me Until I Put On The Mask — Anonymity is a powerful thing. The mystery is more excuses to delve deeper but at the same time to repel back. With her new persona, there’s this almost magical aura where it protects her like armor. Sure, it’s a placebo effect, but always asking, “what would Amadea do?” can give insights of the situation and unexpected skills. And yes, that’s also a placebo effect and no, it’s not a delusion or a phase."Did You Die?" “Unfortunately yes, but I lived!” — It’s a much more dramatic version than the heroic second wind. She’s in no shape to take on many blows but she can do something similar. If there’s a predicament that’ll render her too injured to fight or outright kill her, she can bring out the ace in her sleeve or use her acrobatics to dodge out of the way. This only can be done if she knows beforehand or planned ahead and she can't use the same trick twice.

However, there’s a plot-hole, though: why is she that way? To adventure just for the sake of adventuring isn’t enough. What would make her more compelling other than the name? Perhaps, something tragic for the audience to sympathize with. No it’s too edgy, not unless it shapes her positively into a role model. Yes, a story with an important lesson. Now we’re getting somewhere.

But We Have To Intervene
A duel to the death has been declared. The accused is forced to fight against the knight whose black armor has been scratched with tally marks counting how many fell before him. So far he’s at 83, and the victim will be his 84th. But Amadea refuses to see injustice, not what happened last time when she lost her mother. She’ll fight for anyone's behalf if they’re unable to defend themselves. The defenseless will gain morale and anything to heal them back to where they found the strength to fight the next battle, and to do the same Amadea did. She’ll also be the one to step up and hold the enemies off so the rest can go. She’ll say, “You guys can go on without me. I’ll take care of the rest”.

He’s My Partner In Crime

Amédée Lefroid de Obān is the partner in crime, a mutualistic patron where he grants her protection in exchange for protecting his unadaptable body within her ley-magick, and best friends forever . When she can’t close in on her foes, he’ll be the one to sneak under their feet. Thanks to him, it’s how she created her own identity. Sure, being part of Eleth the Unknowable will create lots of plot-holes in her story but that isn’t the main issue. They’ve yet to create their own backstories on how they met — but it’ll be the perfect story once it’s finished! The main focus is the iconic duo: Amadea-Amédée
Amédée, The Experiment Gone Wrong
Supposedly was once a nobody that moved into Alliria to make a name for himself. He was caught into the downward spiral of drugs, alcohol, the typical career ending things. It’s unknown what happened to him. There was one account of Dread Lords Archon scavenging the slums of Alliria to search for bodies. A little dabble in shadowmancy, a trade with necromancy and they got themselves a shadowkin (like Nycto, "Nyct").
Sign: A scar will appear across her left eye, never to be removed at all. It works quite well for her tragic backstory.
Granted Abilities: Amédée was once human but due to the experiment, he can be an excellent scout and infiltrator.
Composure: Amédée will contact Amadea on how to hold herself back or how to bend truth.
Third-Dimensional Umbramancy: He and his Shadowkin Physiology can mold shadows into defense fighting, and stealth. Their form is based on how creative he is. He can manifest himself in his entirety but only for a few minutes as said before. He can also go incorporeal.
Two-Dimensional Stealth: Amédée mimics that of someone’s shadow. He’s lived in this body long enough to be an expert in stealth and altering his form to mimic anything’s shadow. Additionally, he can obscure things or block someone’s eyesight for a short while before he has to go back to Amadea (his body makes him unable to be separated from Amadea for more than a few minutes).
Cost: Prolonged use of his abilities in combat means Amadea is using up her own magic on his behalf. It’s taxing on her already frail body to the point she'll gain the effects of sleep deprivation and insomnia. She must use him when it’s out of combat or as a last resort.
Did You See What I Did There!?
Being inseparable from each other — all because he’ll die from exposure in Arethil — whenever either of them do something cool, the other must acknowledge it. This in turn gives them adrenaline to be more confident in their abilities and more likely to succeed spectacularly or fail spectacularly . She can also grant this ability to three allies of her choice.

A Little Bit Of Pizzazz

Why do things the boring way when you can add a little bit of pizzazz? Amadea can try to make something mundane into something more interesting. When already dealing with something through conventional means (i.e climbing a rickety ladder or trying to make up a witty remark), she needs to remind herself that she’s Madame Amadea Clematis! She can embellish her own situation into something much worse or better to give allies inspiration. When inspired, their next predicament becomes much easier due to their newfound confidence.

Other Abilities

Here is the list of abilities that have no set category.
Animal Shape
Amadea can take the form of a large moth creature. It’s unknown how she can shape-shift with no effort but it’s something she can do at will. This gives her the innate ability to fly.
Silent Court Marshal.
She has frighteningly extensive knowledge and determination to carry out a person’s last rites, rituals and funerals. This goes in hand with her also unexpected knowledge on autopsy.
Talented in Air and Earth
There’s an odd phenomenon where she can control the two elements with sorcerous ease. She tends not to use these abilities often. This also implies a celestial alignment.

Weaknesses

Three Strikes, You're Out!
While definitely more resilient than her previous counterpart, she can shrug off light attacks and be able to take two solid blows before she's out of the fight. Her evasion and quick footwork is what makes her hard to hit.

Thinker, not Feeler
Perhaps one of her many biases when it comes to her. She determines things through sound reasoning, not through heart. When it comes to stressful situations that weigh on the trust and respect of allies, she’ll most likely panic internally as she’s not used to intense emotions.

Magic and Binding Weaken
This variant of Amadea sacrifice magic and binding to be more capable in combat. However, this is more the reason to disarm her to forced her to use subpar abilities other than martial prowess.

Knowledge Dependent
Her capabilities rely on the knowledge of the situation and the enemy. Predicting their tactics and educated guesses is the reason she can hold her own against fully fledged soldiers and the like. Fighting an unpredictable or secretive enemy would tilt her hard.

Iron and Silver Vulnerability
Being in contact with Iron and Silver will cause massive burns and excruciating pain that would put her out of the fight. A single solid strike will last months to heal without magical or medical treatment. She’ll go down in one hit rather than three with that kind of weapon.

Easily Shut Down
With an arsenal of abilities and skill, they can be easily shut down through many things such as counterspell for her magic, resistance/immunity to certain elements, speed or movement reduced by grapples or magic, a solid blow to break her out of concentration,

Reliance on Energy and Vitality
Amadea has advanced her magic to the point that her body can not handle it. As such, she needs twice the food intake and intense hours of exercise to at least cast magic normally. If she fails to meet the threshold, she’s unable to cast magic for three days and more vulnerable to diseases. Any clever or smart enemy would make an attack against her constitution for an instant win, should they be able to hit her.

Lack of Pure Strength
Perhaps remaining consistent to her counterpart, she doesn’t have much in the way that of overpowering enemies other than maneuvers and dexterity. She need her patron to do the heavy lifting and should they be separated, they’re easy targets. This makes great opportunities for a divide and conquer tactics.

Very Stubborn and Very Arrogant
Her extensive knowledge and abilities have convinced her that she’s at a higher position than anyone else, the person that appears every thousand years to change history. However, she’s not infallible, as this sort of self-assurance can blind her from people and other situations, where she overestimates her capabilities and underestimates other people.

Mystery & Theory In-Depth: Amadea of Greywood

Like every story in the world of Arethil, some are left forgotten, beyond understanding or better off unknown. Amadea is no exception to this as there’s one theory in particular that suggests Amadea might be a devil 's byproduct gone rogue. Yet, it confirms that Amadea simultaneously exists in more than one location.

Amadea is Amadeus Greywood
Amadea’s name is a feminine variant of Amadeus. Whether it’s purely coincidental or not, it correlated to one of the merchant’s deepest secrets, Gilgamesh Briarthrone. The few who manage to live long enough to delve deeper into investigating his identity find out his assumed alter-ego, Amadeus Greywood. With their names and Gilgamesh’s history of cloning, it wouldn’t be too implausible to imagine that Amadea is one of many family members of the Cherry Rose. Speculations suggest that Gilgamesh experimented on one of her daughters to become similar to Amadeus to see what her power will be. That would explain Amadea’s name and personality, considering her emotionless attitude. However, there’s no evidence of her with any involvement or history with the company.

One of Briarthorne's Daughter Going Rogue
According to Homework and Bloodshed , it's not uncommon where the Briarthorne Family would have it's few share of controversy. There might be some accounts of the daughters going rogue from the school even before the story was presented. It has proven overtime that Gilgamesh has made many enemies along the way including Angelica. When piecing things together, it wouldn't be too far-fetched where Angelica has lured many daughters to go rogue.

Revenge by the Enigmatic Copy
Gilgamesh has plenty of clones that are a copy of him. However, there's no account of a clone made to look like Amadeus. The furthest anyone made to identify Amadeus that he's a demon, but a questionable one at that as he fits more into the category of a devil . However, it has been proven that Gilgamesh is experimental to his adoptive family members, it's possible that he may have attempted to make a copy of Amadeus by turning him into a demon. But according to history, demons' biology cannot adapt to Arethil and what came of it is something best left unknown.
