Name trivia

It should be noted that name-length can vary greatly between individual Kha'atari. Some add their clan name to it, others allude to specific deeds or character traits that are then grafted to the individual's birth name. A particularly old Kha'atari may have a tediously long name. Such names are usually shortened for the sake of convenience and only ever spoken to their full length during ceremonies.

Appearance

Maraad is an imposingly tall man of powerful build. He sports four muscular arms and five golden eyes, of which only three are open when he is calm.

He has indigo skin and black hair. He wears a golden bandana and baggy golden trousers equipped with a blue sash. Also, he has blue tattoos on his wrists and fingers, which were inked on him by his own father's hand.

He can perceive energy, especially magic, thanks to the largest of the five eyes, which is the one that rests vertically on his forehead. Like a chameleon, Maraad is able to independently move each eye.

He always walks barefoot and doesn't wear boots or shoes.

The same can be said about his clothing, which is somewhat revealing and shows off a lot of his developed musculature.

Occupation

Is what Maraad does for a living even considered an occupation? Perhaps you can.
The Kha'atari are by nature nomadic people. They don't cultivate crops, they don't create enormous cities, and the few villages they have built have a utilitarian feel to them.

That Maraad doesn't have a steady "job," if you will, comes as no surprise. He is a drifter who works as a mercenary, kills monsters, aids the people, and occasionally goes hunting to get money.

He's an excellent hunter and tracker, as well as everything that goes with these two. He's adept at magic and knows a decent bit about alchemy.

He's perfectly fine living off the land, knowing how to get his own food, make his own clothes, build habitable structures, and whatnot.

Even though he is not in the least bit poor, he neither owns a home nor is a citizen of any one city or state. Likewise, he has only sporadic affiliations with more powerful groups.

Actually, he's probably a touch aloof as well.

Skills

As was already mentioned, Maraad's hard birthplace has given him the ability to be extremely independent, travel widely and live just about anywhere.

He may be young by Kha'atari standards, but he is a skilled warrior.

Maraad is well-versed in Pankrani, a combat method that Kha'atari created over the course of several dozen centuries. Users of Pankrani learn how to battle both with and without weapons. Maraad favors the latter option.
He views his own body as a weapon and believes that the use of any other instruments will reduce his effectiveness.

I suppose you could say he likes the challenge too, based on how playful he is.

Abilities

Maraad is not only a remarkable athlete who excels in all areas of athletic performance, but he is also a decently talented sorcerer.

By changing the shape of his soul, he may create magic and, consequently, influence his physical state. When necessary, he performs a sophisticated kind of shape-shifting to enhance his physical prowess, becoming stronger, faster, more resilient, and so on.

Skilled Kha'atari use a form of magic called atman, with the capacity to control one's soul and pull strength from it. The majority of Kha'atari have a preference for and affinity towards the element of flame. Maraad is unique. He is partial to lightning.

He has the ability to transform the flames of his soul into electricity-like energy. He's still getting the hang of this ability and, as such, can't use it over long distances. In short, he can only cast electricity at short to medium ranges.

Personality

Maraad is many things, but most of all, he's energetic, playful, and outgoing. He's competitive and possesses a strong will, even if he isn't the most morally sound person. Think of him as an onion. Onions have a lot of layers, and so does Maraad. You have to peel back a few layers to see him for who he really is.

Some background information

Where do we begin?

(Yeah, I know the joke. Start at the beginning and work your way to the end. Say it aloud and I'll bonk you with a frying pan.)

I'll try to break his background into several points that should, theoretically, come together to form a coherent picture.

Somewhere in the southern part of Malakath, Maraad was born to a couple of Kha'atari parents. By Kha'atari's austere standards, the village he was born into was remarkably big.

His folks were educated, not the archetypal boulder-throwing barbarians. Balamur, Maraad's father, was a weapon-master and shaman. His mother, Ugza, was the herbalist and wise woman of the community.

Maraad had a slightly unique appearance at birth. His complexion was blue, a sign of a mystical mutation. He can utilize magic more skillfully than many of his contemporaries as a result of this mutation.

Maraad's parents took pride in his peculiar abilities and gave him an excellent education (at least by Kha'atari standards). He picked up reading, writing, and speaking the common tongue since his tribe's members occasionally traded goods with other humanoid races, primarily humans.

↳At a relatively young age, he started exploring Malakath, mostly by trekking across the rugged countryside. These excursions were led by Maraad, who traveled on foot and carried a few supplies.

↳In his early thirties, Maraad's interest in the places beyond Malakath soared. He departed from his parents' home to conduct additional research. Since then, he had visited several significant cities, suffered the misfortune of being captured by drow (more than once), and even eliminated a group of elven guerillas in Falwood (in his defense, he had never seen an elf before).
