A Fourth Level Dreadlord of no renown or office. Having demonstrated no talent in any particular magical discipline, he has been relegated to becoming an assistant teacher and healer for all training duties on Academy grounds, as well as accompanying higher level Dreadlords to act as an on-site healer. This, however, has given Leoric perspective and time to further broaden his magical skills, learning many fortuitous disciplines which would ordinarily be seen as useless by the traditional Dreadlord syllabus.

Appearance

Leoric is a man of imposing height, yet timid build. Not so thin a gust would carry him away, but weak enough that anyone with a mind to push him would succeed in doing so. His skin is tanned from frequent campaigns through Amol-Kalit, yet sustains little injury or scar, uncommon for a Dreadlord of his age. His grey eyes and often pursed lips further give the impression of someone lacking authority or power. He gives the aura more of an Elbion Scholar than he does a Dreadlord, even of the lowest rung.

Skills and Abilities

General Abilities

Leoric is an incredibly well-read individual. He has studied a myriad of languages, and is conversationally competent in Falwood-Addasian, Kaliti, Orcish, Dwarven and can read many others. He is a great lover of the ancient Oskavosh language, and has studied runic-dialects that magical tomes were originally written in, before being translated into Arethilian. He is a lover of poetry, mathematics and culture, seen as time-wasted by the Academy. He has read of, but put into practice very little, cultural customs of many diverse communities around Arethil, in hopes of making himself more useful to the Academy, and to Vel-Anir.

Magical Abilities

Leoric is a magical generalist, something more often seen in other magical academies across the planes. Whether it is psychological or physiological, Leoric simply has a problem with magical execution, and cannot go beyond the apprentice level of most magics. Over time, he has found that it simply takes him far longer, and that these plateaus can be overcome with incessant practice.

His magical knowledge on the other-hand is vast and expansive, often larger than that of many proctors due to their specialisations in a particular field of study. Although he may not know the higher complexities of Rune Magic or weaponising Lightning, he has no lack of options in a survival scenario. Through the battles he has been involved in, he's discovered that he can overcome overwhelming skill through using his magical toolset to his advantage; his creativity and breadth of study being his primary advantage on the battlefield.

In weapons and horsemanship, he is about average with a third level Dreadlord. His sword-play is subpar, but is a fair rider and archer. These skills are rarely needed however, as he is more often than not placed in a medical role, rather than an offensive one.

Personality

Leoric is a calm, slow-talking man. Despite the sustained beatings and tortures that he underwent at the Academy, he has retained a warmth and soberness, where you would usually find fury and distain. He is a great lover of books, novels and languages, which have helped to chip away at the xenophobia that all Anirians seem to be born with. He is, however, still a Dreadlord, and can retain a presence when required, often turning serious under pressure. Though he may not take pleasure in it, he has taken lives, and has no problem doing so if the situation calls upon it.

Biography & Lore

Leoric Falstaff was born in Anir Square, being named after his Great Grandfather Dormand Leoric Falstaff, a stone-mason involved with many of the buildings now standing in Vel Anir. Historically, magic skipped a generation in their family line, as his grandfather was a Dreadlord, before dying at a young age, fathering one son - Leoric's father. Leoric, from the moment he was born, had a responsibility to his family to show magical prowess, as his older brother, Gregory Falstaff, was already an apprentice at the Dreadlord Academy.

He was very young when he began to show signs of magery; commanding animals with ease, calling birds and creating small sparks within his hands. He was inducted into the Academy at the incredibly young age of 4, his parents paid another handsome sum for providing another warrior to Vel Anir's growing military.

He was hailed as a prodigy by the Academy, showing incredible mental flexibility for Mathematics, reading comprehension, languages and mechanics, helping to build within him a sense of pride and superiority amongst his less gifted brethren. When they began training in what would more commonly be referred to as College Magic, he also prevailed, showing an ease when it came to basic magical skills. It didn't take long for him to learn very basic elemental spells, how to speak to animals, and the limitations and laws of magic that governed the physical world.

However, his victory turned to ash in his mouth. Once they started physical training, he was about average, but nothing unbecoming of a Dreadlord in training. His magical skill, however, was stale; his tutors and proctors pushed and pushed and pushed and yet they could get him to do no more than basics. Conjuration, Thaumaturgy, Elemental Magics, Alchemy, Runic Magic, they bled him dearly in every facet of magic to find his gift, but there truly was none. No matter how hard he read or tried, all the progress he made was minor and minuscule; by the time he was 15, there were Dreadlords in his cohort that could summon great waves of searing-flame with ease, whilst his weak, sullen fireball seemed to drain him greatly. Slowly, but surely, the proctors began to distant themselves from him, and he too distanced himself from the others, realising his place was inside his books, and not with the other members of the Academy.

A miracle it seemed- he graduated. Labelled a 'Generalist' by the proctors, he was made to swear no allegiance other than to the Academy itself. From then on, he received additional tutelage in only healing magics, being sent on campaign and mission with third level Dreadlords to heal their wounds and cure their ills. His confidence was shattered, and he became insular and distant, spending more and more time within the Academy's library than out on military duty.

He continues to elude the magical community, seen as weak even by the Dreadlord Apprentices he assists in teaching, some of them being able to conjure up more power than him despite their lack of years.
