Birthplace The closest literal translation in any human tongue is the letter Ψ; a realm untouched by any but the dragons of old and, occasionally, a very powerful elf. Born Died Age She never learned to calculate the difference in the passage of time between here and Ψ, but a friend along the way estimates her to be approximately 400,000 "human" years. Home A fiercely guarded secret, her cave is self-made and should not be discoverable on any map. Shrouded by pines and buried deep in the belly of a mountain, Karyorrhexis spends very little time here and often returns to bears and other woodland creatures taking residence. HISTORY::
Karyorrhexis's mother died shortly after laying her last clutch, slain by an army of dark elves while she was off hunting for her soon-to-be family. Karyorrhexis hatched with a single brother, and their father raised them for the short time he was alive. He, too, fell prey to the dark elves, who managed a surprise attack on their cave by cloaking themselves in her fallen mother's scales. Her father forced Karyorrhexis and her brother through a portal into this realm so they would not be harmed, but she lost track of her brother when they were met by an unrecognizable race on the other side.

Her brother's roar of agony nearly broke her, but they had promised each other they would continue to fly regardless of the other. Saving their species was more important than saving each other.

It is a decision that haunts her to this day.

Alone at a young age, Karyorrhexis confusedly grew into her amazing powers, only able to understand that which her father had prepared her for. Though the early humanoid species had taken the last of her family, she never wavered from the duties that came with being a dragon - namely healing the injured/sick and aiding the less fortunate.

Because she does not gauge life by the number of days that pass but rather the number of lives she touches, she is truly unaware of her age. She aided men of old and new, guided kings and queens, and she was the deciding factor one ancient battle. As civilization progressed, Karyorrhexis's existence was written off as myth. Rather than feeling excluded by this, she viewed it as the opportunity to bring joy to humans by revealing herself. Over the course of human evolution, she came to realize the growing compassion of the species and is much less concerned with being hunted in the present day, although she knows caution will be what keeps her alive and elves are still a real threat.

As the last dragon (so she believes), it is her duty to persist so she can continue to aid mankind.

POWERS::

• Dream manipulation - used mainly to relieve children of nightmares
• Pyrokinesis - able to breathe fire and cover body in flames (though this latter ability is quite costly)
• (Ecological) Empathy - in tune with the environment and people around her, able to heal by taking another's emotions into herself; also able to draw energy from her surroundings in order to heal herself
• Enhanced Intelligence & Strength
• Extreme Longevity - seemingly arrested aging, and has no known expiration date, although normal weapons may harm her if aimed at the right areas
• Healing - able to relieve pain and suffering by touching an individual; if done on very young individuals, may impart some small supernatural ability to the receiving party (generally related to the injury that had been healed)
• Telepathy - this is her primary method of communication since she cannot speak normally in dragon form; also in order to find those she will aid next, can hear mental cries for help.

WEAKNESS::

• Combustion of her own being makes her invulnerable for the duration of the flames (unless doused with water), but this power greatly drains her energy. This leaves her extremely vulnerable to attack immediately following combustion - her scales soften and her mask becomes the strength of soft clay. Also, because she is so drained of energy she is not strong enough to fly. These symptoms may last minutes to hours depending on the length of combustion.
• Her telepathy and empathy cause her to be inexplicably drawn to war zones or other areas of great strife. She is nearly powerless to resist this call, and if staged in the correct environment she could be very easily cornered and captured (much like her father)
• Though her mask is fused with her skull, it is technically removable. Doing so would immediately kill her.
• Her throatlatch and underarms are not scaled, leaving these areas vulnerable to any weapon.
• If she is injured or exhausted somewhere the land is barren, she cannot replenish herself

Karyorrhexis is a noble, gentle giant. She is aware of the immense power she harbors and knows that with it comes even greater responsibility. She is under the assumption that she is the last dragon in existence, after she witnessed the fall of the only others of her kind she knew - her father and brother (assumed). Her father instilled in her the role she would play in this world, and she lives solely to fulfill those duties. She is capable of healing, and so she heals; she is capable of peace-keeping, and so she keeps the peace. She does not enjoy combat but is aware of the evil in the world and that sometimes, in order to protect one, she must harm another. She will always turn to reason before violence, though experience has told her these methods fail more often than they succeed.

She does not trust easily but is prone to giving the benefit of the doubt, as her father taught her to do.

As her powers are capable of helping others, Karyorrhexis rarely stays in one place for long. She travels as frequently as she is able so she can aid the greatest number of people. She is humble with her abilities and does not accept anything more than gratitude for her good deeds.

FEARS/FLAWS:: Karyorrhexis fears being the last of her kind, and that the magic of a dragon will be lost if/when she dies. She also has a terrible phobia of water and will only approach it in order to keep herself hydrated.

SECRETS:: She is not a particularly secretive creature, but for fear of being hunted she will never reveal the location of her cave.
