“Can the Absalon return my mother? My Father?” the girl whispered in a voice to weary and hoarse voice, it was a wonder defeat did not take her over. Her grandfather held her in his arms, who stayed brave as his granddaughter mourned.

“No… no, he cannot.” He answered.

Kaira Yehven, the current Guardian to the Stone of Faith, is the daughter of the late Arik Yevhen and Syera Havardur, and granddaughter to Arran Yehven. Her grandfather currently serves as a Somner and is well known to those in the city of Valenntenia. The Yehven bloodline dates to the very early days of the City’s creation, heavily entwined within the history books as important figures throughout the years. Warriors were made of the Yehvens, serving in the City’s Vanguard or fighting for greater wars outside Valenntenia’s walls.

Currently assigned the Stone of Faith, Kaira is seen as a figure of worship to those that pray to the Ancients. Those that have sought out the ear of the Ancients have reported feelings of ease and peace after spending time with the young Guardian, and thus go out of their way to ensure that Kaira was always welcomed and safe.

Appearance

Kaira inherited many Yehven features, most notably her long, dark hair and olive toned skin. Her dark hazel eyes were inherited by her mother, as is the rest of her facial features and slim build. Despite her resemblance to her late mother, Kaira favours heavily to the Yehven traits. As a Guardian of a Stone, she wears Faith around her neck, hanging just below her heart.

Skills and Abilities

The Havardurs, her maternal side's family, are dedicated to the many House of the Ancients built all over Valenntenia, sacred temples dedicated to the worship of the Ancients that created all that the City has come to know. Kaira was brought up in this practice until her interests changed to wanting to follow in the footsteps of her late Father, who died while serving in the Vanguard.

Kaira strives to do well in both legacies left by her parents, doing her best to represent the Yehven name that is intertwined into the history of the city. With her determination, Kaira excels in hand to hand combat, and masters the use of a whip sword, her father's chosen weapon. In turn, she also developed adept use of small daggers welded to chains that hang from cuffs at her wrist. The ancestral Yehven weapon, taught by her grandfather from a young age.

Although she wished to carry on her Father's legacy and serve as a high ranking official within the Vanguard, Kaira turned to her grandfather and his history as Somner. Her allocation to the Stone of Faith was not welcomed at first, viewing it as a slap in the face in her mother's memory, but the Stone was quick in aiding Kaira with relief.

Not much is known of this Stone, as finding a rightful Guardian became difficult in it's history. It takes a rare individual to fully come to an understanding of the Rune, as one unfortunate Guardian once descended into madness and believed that the Ancients were angered and looking to punish the Children.

The Faith Runestone

"Are you praying again? What have you left to repent?"

Grief was an ever constant stranger Kaira could not welcome since the death of her parents when she was fourteen. Despite the tragedy, her grandfather ushered her towards the Vanguard and oversaw her specialised training in the Yehven family's choice of weapon. It did not take long for Arran to see his granddaughter possessed a rarity worthy of the Stone of Faith, and soon convinced Kaira to change courses.

There were no recorded texts on the Stone of Faith, only unintelligible scribbling of the few Guardians that were entrusted to the Stone. In a bid to find out her own answers, Kaira turned to her faith in prayer, asking the Ancients for guidance in these uncharted waters. She promised she would be the eyes to their Children, the ear to their woes, and the heart they needed to hold. The years of training before being presented the Stone, it was not unheard of for those in the poorer sectors of the city to call Kaira the "Daughter of Valenntenia" for her continued work in spreading hope and support to those that have struggled, crying out to the Ancients to be heard and answered. Kaira had the sort of healing sense that begged for souls that were crooked, broken, and depleted to flock to her, and she poured herself into helping the Children.

Understand that there is a beast within you
that can drink 'til it is sick,
but cannot drink 'til it is sastisfied.
- Frank Bidart

Residing in an abandoned House of the Ancients found in the Old Town, Kaira made home in a place that had every reason to fall apart. The City of Valenntenia did not produce many worshipers in recent years, and so countless temples were left forgotten to ruin, often being converted into spaces for events and others uses to better tend to the growing resources the City needed.

Kaira's home was small, a single room that once held pews before an altar with the Ancients depicted into marble behind it. She was a short distance from her grandfather's home, but at the end of the day, the City allowed the Guardian peace and solitude. It was on these lonely nights the young woman would be feeling the effects of the Stone of Faith, peering up at the marbled Ancients and ask for strength or their ear to hear her. Her prayers were never left satisfied, and by dawn, Kaira was too exhausted to call on the Ancients. So she turned to the dead, her loved ones that left the world too early. They could not communicate or indicate that they were able to hear her words, but Kaira could feel her Stone warm at her chest. When she told her grandfather, he became alarmed and brought it to the attention of the other Somners, afraid that her mind was not suited to the weight of Faith. After a brief meeting with the Absalon, it was declared that Kaira Yehven was of sound mind.

There is more yet to be discovered in the Faith Runestone, but past Guardians that have protected it all passed on the same result: Guardians to the Stone of Faith were unable to leave Valenntenia. This often left them out of contention for the role of Absalon, and leaves Kaira with an ache to visit places she remembered from her childhood exploring the Steppes with her father.

Biography & Lore

The Yehvens were painted throughout history as warriors, serving the City of Valenntenia with their lives. This led to settling down at young ages, almost a tradition with each generation for many years. Her parents were well into their seventeenth year by the time they welcomed Kaira into the world, divulging their daughter’s every whim. Although just having celebrated her twenty third birthday, Kaira is seen to be lagging behind on this tradition, although Arran Yehven did not pressure her into following it.

Kaira remembers her childhood happily, reminiscing the days of Summer ‘training’ with her father as he ran routes in Valenntenia and throughout many places found in the Steppes with his team from the Vanguard. In the days of Winter, she was put to task in welcoming worshipers to the largest House of the Ancients, listening to stories of the Ancients and giving support to those that sought solace. She was brought up as a happy child, one that bounced back quickly after the untimely deaths of her parents and often prayed for their well being in the afterlife. Kaira persisted against the tragic weight thrust upon her, but her belief in the legacy left to her allowed her to demonstrate to the other Somners why she was worthy of the Faith Runestone.
