Lady Jenavere Calder, née Vellayne, is the daughter of well-to-do merchants and the widow of one baron and mother to another. At 28, she currently serves as chatelaine of Greymere Hall, managing the Calder property in trust for her young son, Osric, until the young baron comes of age following her husband, Edric Calder, Baron Thornholt. Reserved and observant, Jenavere balances courtesy with authority, earning respect more than affection from the villagers, many of whom still see her as a wealthy outsider lording over them. Beneath her composed exterior is a vigilant will shaped by duty, loneliness, and bonds of affection that both bind and transcend her current situation.
Appearance
Slender and of average height, her appearance enjoys the contrast of a pale, peaches-and-cream skin tone, with red-brown, dark copper hair and dark eyes. She is slim and tends to dress in dark colors -- deep greens, blacks, deep sea blues, favoring structured silhouettes that reinforce her position and authority more than comfort or fashion. Her jewelry is typically restrained -- modest gold at ear and wrist and throat, the occasional stone on special occasions (usually emerald or sapphire). She wears her wedding ring at all times, as if it serves as a visual reminder of her authority as a result of her marriage.

Personality
Jenavere Calder is composed almost to the point of austerity. She holds herself as a woman in a delicate position with everything to lose. She governs herself as carefully as she governs her household. Jenavere speaks softly, pauses to consider before answering, and employs precision more than warmth. When she is silent, it is usually deliberate. Courtesy comes easily to her, in contradistinction to intimacy, which really doesn't.
Jenavere watches people closely, remembers what they value, and rarely reveals what she herself is really thinking. In public, she is measured, fair, and distinctly unflappable. In private, by contrast, Jenavere is anxious, over-responsible, and prone to working to exhaustion rather than sit with uncertainty.
Her mannerisms are basically unremarkable. She folds her hands when listening to others speak. She frets with her ring when she is under strain. She dislikes being interrupted, loathes being patronized, and bristles quietly at overt pity. Jenavere hates being handled or maneuvered, particularly by male relatives trying to interfere with her care of her son. Deep down, Jenavere is kinder than she appears and always in a practical manner, rather than indulgent: food and shelter and solutions, never platitudes or empty reassurances. Jenavere is fiercely loyal to those who have earned it. Her desire and her grief are kept under lock and key, buried deep down where they cannot be used as tools, and when they surface it is in rare moments made dangerous by their presence.
