Hersh Mento
(artist unknown)
"When the Tundra is green all year round
This is when I will give up my things
They mean a lot to me, you know
If you are nice I will let you trade me something better"
Appearance
The first thing one notices about Hersh is the gargantuan backpack they carry, and second is the tiny Kesh Drake usually perched somewhere on their person. The amount of things that cover Hersh's entire body are hard to ignore, and it's hard not to wonder what lies in each pocket.
Face soft and bright with bright blue eyes, Hersh almost has a childlike look about them. Their eyes are the real indicator of their age, however. Those eyes have a knowing look, one that gazes through your being. It's a good sign if that's what you're seeing, though, because if you were to notice Hersh looking at you, it means you're either a threat, or you're prey.
Fairly androgynous, everyone has a different first impression of what Hersh's gender is. They don't really connect with much of anything, and just lets people call them whatever.

Skills and Abilities
Memory: A Trapper first, Hersh's uncanny memory is a great boon to their preferred method of hunting. It also helps them keep track of their hoards scattered across the Keeps. They always know when something is missing. Always.
Nord's Strength: Most of their strength and speed is expressed in being able to move like a normal human with a backpack almost their whole size. They would never take it off unless their life was in grave danger, and maybe not even then, but if they ever do it would certainly reveal their true speed and strength.
Hunter's Training: Hersh was to be a hunter before they were even born, considering their birthplace of Faarin. Their father trained them in all the things a hunter would need to know, including self defense, tracking, and trap-setting. Trapping is what Hersh took to best, and what they most enjoy, enjoying the fact that most traps can be re-used and repurposed.
Resourcefulness: The training of a hunter was instilled in Hersh from a very young age, and as such they learned to live off the land, even when it has next to nothing to give. They'll do anything they can to not use the items in their pack.
A Little Friend: The runt of his litter, and the only living thing they really seem to care for, Hersh picked up their little Kesh Drake during a hunt in Malakath. Naming him Dea'roh due to the good luck they believe he brings. He's not just a lucky charm, however. Dea'roh has been trained well, and can perform a multitude of tasks. He can send messages, distract prey, and track by scent alone. He's also cute

Personality
Hersh has a surprising innocence about them for their occupation, but with a distant air that some might even call creepy. Their soft voice, Nordic accent, genuine smile, and eyes that see right through you make for a unique combination to be sure.
It's hard to say they have a one track mind when distraction comes so easily, but they love taking trophies from each quarry to the point it's almost all they speak of. It's practically the only reason they became a Yaegir, to have easier access to rare prey. A hoarder by nature, Hersh is a problem for the Alchemists of the Noct Yaegir, who have to haggle just to get the most minor ingredients out of them.

Biography & Lore
To understand Hersh, their odd name, and their odd self as a whole, one must go back to their parents. Their father, Nifni Varsson, was a proud Nordenfiir hunter of Faarin, and the very archetype of a good man by the standards of his home. He only had one slip up, and that was leaving for the capital city to deliver supplies, because it was there he met his wife-to-be, Ellia Mento. She was an outsider from Elbion, one who came to Nordengaard to get away from her past. They fell in love, of course. It was quite the stir when Nifni of all people brought back an outsider. They tentatively accepted her after he testified for Ellia's character, thinking she was a quick dalliance. Marriage was a harder pill to swallow. The community grew uncomfortable with the couple, and they were quietly shunned, but never fully pushed out.
When Hersh was born, their first name came from a dream by their father, and their last from their mother. Disappointing when they weren't Bearkin, but they loved their little bug no less. Hersh was trained in the ways of the hunt from the moment they could walk, and took to Trapping particularly well. It did them well, kept them fed, and gave them their love of collecting. Their mother felt cold and outcast by the town, however, as did the whole family. Hersh was the only one mildly accepted. Ellia wanted to leave Faarin, but Nifni refused. Refused to even move to elsewhere in Nordengaard. So she left on her own, not being able to take the coldness of both the land and the people at once.
Nifni quickly regretted letting her go, and set out with Hersh to find his wife after only a few months. The people of Faarin were not so upset to see them go. Hersh honed their skills on the road and over the sea, learning how to handle newer environments. They marveled at all the new sights, while their father grew anxious at the unfamiliarity of it all. They journeyed all the way to Elbion, but encountered no luck finding Ellia. It was there when they were 16 that Nifni met his fate at the hands of a mysterious stranger, one who spoke the name of his wife. Hersh was spared, but not without their own mental scars.
Instead of pursuing, Hersh chose to forget and distract themself. Their intuition told them it was just best for everyone if they remembered their father for who he was rather than taint his memory with hatred. From then on, they were a freelance monster hunter, joining the Noct Yaegir soon after. Now they grow their collection without much of a care in the world.
