A Forbidden excerpt stolen from the tome "The Lesser Known Magical Facets and the Danger they Pose":

The dangers of magic have always been made abundantly clear to those who practice and wish
to master it's craft. Since it's very creation, the College of Elbion has made their stance on the use of the more taboo facets of magic very clear to the mages and sorcerers of Arethil. It will not be tolerated, and those who crave the power that could come of such a practice shall be dealt with, with all the force the realm can muster.

However, the history of Dark Magic and its roots originate far before the defining of the New Age,
before the creation of the College of Elbion, and before the practice of it was frowned upon. These pratices - to specify - are any use of magic to ultimately corrupt the user of those they wish to use their magic upon. This term is loose in the magic world, and can ultimately be defined to any act of sorcery used. The most famous example of this is of course the many attempts at subverting the Thread of Mortality. The ancient Kavosh people had found an efficient method of harvesting life force from other creatures and harnessing it to prolong life and power their own acts of magic. Some of the grandest structures in Arethil were fueled by the deaths of countless beings, not necessarily beasts. just beings.

In ancient scriptures dug up from the temple of Iuk-'u Delta, there is evidence to show that some
had even managed to strike deals with the Dark Ones, to acquire some of the most powerful abilities ever witnessed by mortal men; uprooting the finest structures from their foundations, injecting thoughts into the minds of peoples tens of thousands of paces away, and of course keeping someone from the very brink of death. Many Tomes available to you in the College would have you believe such feats are impossible without price of death or madness. This is both the purest truth, and the greatest lie. Yes, it requires life, the pure essence of a living, breathing entity, but this price does not necessarily have to be attributed to you. The price for this is considered by the entirety of the Arcane community as heresy, as to achieve the power necessary for such feats, one would have to
