Dante Carlisle
A member of the Red Guild of Cortos, Dante Carlisle seeks revenge for the deaths of his parents and family. Once a humorous and charming man, Dante has become cynical. He has never had qualms with stepping over others for his own gain, and this still holds true today. He is crafty and calculating, but also powerful and driven. Having lost everything he holds dear, there is little in life that causes the man fear, other than dying before those who have wronged him.
Biography & Lore
Dante has been greatly wronged in life. His parents were secretly members of the Red Guild of Cortos, who refused to leave the region following the rise of the Radiant Church. Thus, childhood was fraught with peril for the boy. His parents' illicit business meant that Dante could not mix with other kids, for fear that they were sent to investigate Dante and his family.
Dante instead found enjoyment in working to further his parents operations. This involved innocent odd jobs like delivering messages, to more nefarious deeds such as pickpocketing or leading unsuspecting targets into the arms of mercenaries hired by Guild members. It was no life for a child, but the boy developed invaluable skills during this time, aging into a crafty, resourceful and strong young man.
It was not to last, however, as his parents were eventually uncovered, betrayed by another Guild member who had been bought out. Dante was beaten, his parents taken from their home for a public execution. Despite ceaseless effort, there was nothing the boy could do to save his parents.
Beaten, alone, and surrounded by the enemy, Dante swore he would one day return to avenge the death of his parents. He fled to Alliria, using the skills taught to him by his parents to get by. After a few months, he managed to make contact with a Guild member.
Then, he began working with a network of fixers, thieves and mercenaries. He became well-liked, but never felt comfortable around his comrades. He knew one day he would have to return to Cortos, to make the Radiant Church pay for what they did.
It was to his own surprise, then, when he fell in love with a girl from one of the farms his mercenaries had been hired to protect. Her name was Elena, and they later wed and had a child by the name of Alice. Elena was well aware of Dante's wish for vengeance, but was able to coax him into remaining with her until their child no longer needed protection.
Fate, unfortunately, was not kind on Dante Carlisle, following the completion of a job he would forever regret. A sadistic sorcereress had taken influence over a small town outside Alliria, charming the residents and using them in crude magical experiments. Dante had been contracted with removing the witch from the village, which he managed with the aid of numerous battlemages and Guild members. He had not thought much of the job at the time, until it came back to haunt him two years later.
Returning home from a Guild excursion, Dante was to find his family dead at the hands of the sorceress, who had long fled the scene. Again Dante was left with an unthinkable loss, with no clear method of exacting revenge.
He now makes little contact with the Guild, striking out on his own in search of the sorceress who took his family away. He roams the lands between Cortos and Alliria, working tirelessly to the end of vengeance.
