Blake Farand
"Effort doesn't equal victory, dumbass. You gotta know how to apply what you practice."
Appearance
Lithe at first glance but athletically built. Blake makes no attempt to hide her appearance, proudly displaying both her muscles and her many scars earned over the course of her education. Blake likes to wear practical clothing when possible and often wears cloth wraps around her hands, wrists, and forearms. Her hair is dark and her eyes light. She sometimes puts on makeup (when she feels like it) but generally forgets about it afterwards; her days-old, smudged eye makeup is practically her signature.
Skills and Abilities
- Pugilist: Blake loves the fine (martial) art of good old fashioned close combat. In fact, she prefers punching and kicking to the swordplay that the Academy is so insistent on teaching Initiates. If she absolutely must wield a weapon, then a simple pair of spiked caestus do the trick.
- Umbramancy: Manipulating whispy, dark energy is Blake's sorcerous boon. Smokescreens are the simplest form of spell umbramancy can produce, but shadows can be made far more tangible and dangerous through proper manipulation. Blake primarily experiments with what sorts of constructs she can conjure with her magic, which she loves to use in tandem with her fists and feet.
- Music enthusiast: When she's not practicing her martial arts, honing her magic, or stuck in class, Blake loves to write and perform music. She has a singing voice that some other students have described as "lovely," and she dabbles with the piano.
Personality
Blake is not outgoing, but she is easy going. She doesn't go out of her way to be rude, but she doesn't pull her punches either. Blake doesn't start problems, but she absolutely finishes them.
