Archanae's Theme
Archanae is a sorcereress specialised in the delicate art of entrapping minds into objects, granting a semblance of life and animation to that which would otherwise be dead. Her path has taken her through the schools of divination, necromancy, enchantment, transmutation, alchemy and many more, her knowledge often sought in the strangest of places and outside legitimate colleges of magic, seeking with steadfast determination to rise above the fleeting and impermanent nature of the mortals surrounding her. Her ultimate quest: Immortality and permanence of mind. But even this is a mere prelude to the glorious destiny she has envisioned for her species - humanity shall break its shackles to chronology by their short lifespans. The body may decay, but through her practice, she has discovered the means to preserve a mind beyond its allotted time. Instead of going into endless spirals of growth and destruction, as the cyclical nature of human society is wont to do, she sees a bright future in store for her fellow mortals, when she shall be the progenitor of the greatest empire known to man.

But of course, such measures of progress will require sacrifice. And Archanae is more than willing to pay the price.

And she is so very close with the pride of her work, the Magnum Opus of her achievements - the flawed Memory Stone, almost fully capable of storing a mind, with all its experiences, memories, personality and knowledge, allowing these to pass on to other minds.

Appearance

A woman with an air of majesty and intensity worthy of an empress, though she dresses in shawls and tattered robes more reminscent of an old crone, clearly uncaring for her looks. Her black hair grows wild and barely tamed by her numerous braids and medallions, bedecking her whole body in charms and talismans per the traditions of the island tribe of the Nal'Gura that she follows. Her amber eyes filter and size up people with the same, rapid analysis she affords to precious gems and stones, quickly valueing and dismissing the worth of a given character - usually with faint- to no interest. Her true obsession gleams through her gaze when finding a rock or other raw vein of power, something she can shape into an immaculate piece of artifice, which is usually of much more interest to her than the drab mundanity of people.

Her thin body bespeaks of someone who values mind over matter, as she barely eats enough to sustain herself. The tattoos etched into her skin are cryptic at best and indecipherable to anyone outside of her own frantic machinations, perhaps make some sense to a member of her former tribe.

Skills and Abilities

- Extensive knowledge of the arcane, with a particular speciality in animism and enchantment.

- Multiple golems, homunculi and other magical servants, splinters of minds infused into animated objects.

- Brilliant mind, sharper than most, capable of putting together near-impossible calcuations and abstractions.

- Eidetic memory, absorbing information like a sponge.

- Weaker than average people skills, often driving away others with her singular focus.

- Powerful spells that can ensnare, ensorcel, preserve and slay.

Personality

Calling Archanae an obsessive genius would be a generous description. In truth, most that encounter her are quickly repelled by her manic drive to uncover the secrets of her craft, to the absolute sacrifice of everything else. She has eschewed the prospect of a normal future and undervalues relations of friendship, love and family.

But ultimately, Archanae is human, and on occasion, she finds herself longing as much as anyone for these things, hoping to find a soul as dedicated to her study as herself. So far, few have crossed her path, but she makes up for this lack in companionship by keeping a disturbing plethora of half-formed automatons and human-esque puppets, capable of some modicum of conversation and interaction. Though in truth, many of these souls are desperate prisoners spellbound into a physical form, and often they will simply curry her favour in the hopes of release or a swift end. Rarely does she oblige.

She looks upon the people of the city fawning over meaningless items and misguided topics with contempt. By the judge of ages, most of those that surround her will be dust and shadows, most, if not all forgotten within the span of a century. Within such a short timeframe, individual human life is next to meaningless, at least to her. What truly matters is the grander pages of history, and those who can shape it. That includes herself, and so to those who challenge this philosophy, she responds that her life will be a meaningless footnote as well, if she fails to complete her work. If she succeeds, however, she will aid humanity into ascending into a new chapter of immortality, capable of challenging the gods themselves. *That* is something worthy of striving for.

People in Cerak Al'Thul speak of her in hushed whispers, often as a mad witch of the cliffs, fearful of her wrath and power. Little do they know that in her mind, she works in their favour and for the good of all - or perhaps, more accurately, for the good of generations to come.
