Steve sensed one of his Infinity potatoes being used, he thought little of this as he had been waiting on Eternum to use one up North so he could go, and meet them at the resulting garden. What was unexpected however was that this new garden hadn't come from the North. Steve began heading to investigate what was happening, then he felt it again, and again. Something was wrong, The potatoes were meant to be used to set up new farms, there was no reason for this many uses in one day. Soon he began feeling the lives he had granted going out one by one.

After too many weeks of travel, with each day Steve feeling more of his friends passing, Steve arrived at one of his farms, 'Spuds and Buds', Inside was not a pretty sight. There were dry bones, and rotting corpses littering the ground. The corpses were littered with potatoes growing in them. Some of the bones even had burst open with potatoes in them.

Who could, or even would have done this? These farms, though they provided Steve with his potatoes for his magic, that was a secondary objective of them. They were primarily for saving lives. They provided food for starving communities, trade for the towns, they took in the sick and injured for treatment, they provided housing, jobs, and took even went as far as to take in criminals, providing them with sanctuary as well as a chance to get their lives on track.

Steve needed answers: Who was doing this? Why would any one use a magic item that grew potatoes to kill people? He took some potatoes from the field, and used them to bring back a crow that hadn't been potatoified. Steve was not ready for when the crow attacked him, saying things like "It was Steve's fault!" and "He hadn't warned them about the hunger!" It took Steve some time, but eventually he figured out that whoever it was was using some of the undead animals as batteries for the potato, causing them to, if not die out right from losing their life force, be so starved of life force, they'd eat the closest thing that would give life force. Steve looked with horror as he realized that many of the bones littering the ground had bite marks.

This was too much, Steve could not bear what he'd seen any longer. He got up and began heading to the nearest town. He did not look at any of the fallen anymore. He knew that the dead were lucky, if the living were being used as batteries. Steve knew the name of every man, child, and animal that lived on the farm. For the first time in his life Steve no longer believed that living was the optimal option for everyone.
