That monstrosity was a disguised blessing, at least to Azlat. He had slaughtered many to reach Gella – and all he desired was some trinket! A knife, and Jiroshina even stated that they would find such a thing useless, which Azlat was inclined to agree with. Whatever it’d turn out to be, it was bound to be some northern junk of no interest to her. It certainly wasn’t gold; even if it was, it could only be a pitiful amount. A single small golden object would not do at all – she desired much, much more. Though she knew nothing of what rewards would await them, she still imagined and hoped that there would be a heaping pile to pilfer.
An entire mountain of gold to lay claim to; she could think of no better reward.
“Our associate is going to tend to our unwanted guests!” Gella announced, having entered a pact with the thing.
Oh yes, of course. Someone with the ability to manage the problems he was having had arrived and offered solution, and Gella spoke as if he had organized that outcome. Why, that prat couldn’t organize an empty shelf! The ragtag assortment of mis-adventurers he had gathered was testament to that objective fact. He’d taken on a pair of youthful criminals, a wizard she was quite sure was on psychologically altering substances, and whose current absence Gella displayed no concern over. There was a demonic entity that would not look out of place as a hallucination caused by said substances. Perhaps the worst offender of all was Azlat herself, a priestess from a foreign kingdom that wished these northerners nothing but misery.
Aside from Joia of course, but even her presence spoke to it; Azlat held little doubt that her disenfranchised state enabled Gella to take advantage of her. All for gold which they knew little what to do with aside from simply spending it. What a waste it would be to leave to them. If anything, she’d be doing the lot of them a favour by taking it for herself.
By now she’d lost sight of the others, yet could still hear them from beyond the obscuring cloud of smoke. From the sounds of it, they’d sorted matters out and were preparing to move again. Already ahead of everyone else, Azlat continued to press forward into the darkness, draconic vision enabling her sight within. While content to keep ahead, she’d not tread carelessly. Stowing away her bow, she drew her staff instead, not above using it as a tool to check for traps if needed.
