"Just try to keep it on you. They will sense it and they'll leave you alone." He would say calmly, before clipping it onto her belt. "Never leave without it. Never take it off, unless you're somewhere they won't be. Okay?"
She nodded as he fastened it to her belt. She was still weary of the new weight that found itself settled at her hip but it was substantially better then opioids.
„I fear that I know nothing about you.“ she’d say quietly „If I am to follow you to your lands I should at least know you, shouldn’t I?“ she asked gingerly not knowing if she was prying or not.
He would sit beside her, his arms resting over his knees. "Family? I do. I have five siblings, of which I'm the oldest. I have an uncle in Amol-Kalit and my mother. My father died some years ago. My lands are northeast of Vel Anir. I travel, because I enjoy it."
She smiled sadly, „Well if I ever see him I’ll let you know.“ She wrapped the cloak more around her shoulders. „Sorry seeing ghosts joke.“
„I’d imagine becoming the man of the house, and a house so large would be rather challenging.“ she told him kindly, „You are a good man it seems your family must be lucky.“
„Have you ever fallen in love?“ she asked, it was a rather deep question she knew but she wanted to know if people really did fall in love.
He would actually laugh at her joke. "I would appreciate it, though my hopes are he has nothing left to complete." He would wave off her praise. "I am just doing what is within my power to do. If I did any less, I would be undeserving of my forebears and my station."
Her next question caught him off guard. "Ahh.. I don't have that luxury. I'm a Lord." He said with a light laugh. "Many do though. Marry for love."
„Thats valid, I wish the same for him as well.“ She told him earnestly.
She furrowed her brow. „I think you do, despite your station. Does her breeding or her abilities matter more? The most noble of ladies can be utter cows yet a common lady could care more for the people then a noble ever could. In the end it is your choice but I implore you not to limit yourself based on what is proper m‘lord.“ she didn’t know much of the topic but if you were to be tied to one person forever shouldn’t it be one you adore?
"And sometimes the one you love may be horrible for your people. I am a Lord before I am a husband and my people are my priority. You can grow to like someone, but not everyone can grow into someone good for your people." He glanced over. "Station means nothing to me. I was born to a family with no holdings, my father earned our land and his titles. If marriage to a merchant is better for my people then marriage to a Queen, I would marry the merchant."
She pondered this before continuing on, „Your burden sounds harder then I shall ever know.“ she said before giving him a sad smile. She pitied him for having to live a life like that.
She laid down in the grass her hair sprawling out behind her. „Why did you believe me?“ she asked him, „Many people wouldn’t.“
"Some burdens are worth bearing." He would say lightly, before watching her lay back. "Besides, when you prepare for an outcome most of your life, its much easier to accept."
He rolled his shoulders and then looked up at the stars. "As I have said, my family has hunted all manner of undead. I would have been a fool not too. Besides, your fear was real."
„Thats true, I accepted the idea of madness, made it easier.“
She looked over at him and smiled „Still, duty or no it’s a very kind thing to do, and makes all the difference. Also I believe Ive a plan to scam my father out of my dowry.“ she added cheekily
"As much as he may deserve it, there is no honor in scams. You'll be provided for, but if you wish to enact it, I will not be apart of it." There was no judgement in his tone, nor in his eyes.
She picked at the grass in between her fingers. "I know you're right, just felt like a thing to do that'd feel good in the moment and you'd regret later."
"I love it here," She mused, "It's been untouched by really anyone, I've only encountered one spirit here but she was kind. My brother William and I used to come here nearly every night, I quite think you'd like William. He's the quiet type."
"I'm sure he'll like my lands when he visits you. Maybe enough to even stay." Valdr would add. "I just need you to be strong for another month or so. And then, you'll be free."
She nodded sadly. "William doesn't visit. Ever." she added firmly. Before sitting up beside him once again.
"I do not know how you will free me mr knight but I have faith in you." she'd tell him kindly, "tell me more of your life?" she'd ask him generally interested. He was the second person she'd spoken to in her life that wasn't a member of her household.
"There isn't much to tell. I earned my knighthood at seventeen, passed my trials at eighteen and gained Lordship over my lands. Since, I've wandered the lands and helped those in need." Valdr would say. "I'm afraid there isn't much here beyond battles and quests. What you see, is what you get." He would say with a light laugh.
"Well I've lived in the same house, walked the same halls everyday, and have two siblings. Pru my older sister, is in dire need of a husband in her mind and you ought to be careful she doesn't try to ensnare you. She's been known to try and place men in compromising positions so as to look as if she's been soiled, so father will insist in marriage." She said darkly before standing up, "Might we head back? It's getting dark." She'd say making way to stand up.
Sometimes the spirits took a toll on her as a person and made her dark and angry, a side she didn't like and it seemed to be happening now. It wouldn't be long before she started being cruel without her own omission.
"Yes, well, I noticed her eyeing me like the next meal she was going to eat. Quite unsettling, but wasn't the first time I have been looked at like that." He said with a laugh as he rose to his feet. "I will escort you back to the estate and then I will depart."
He would help her back onto her horse, once more taking care of her skirts, as well as her slipping her boots into the stirrups. Then he himself would mount his horse. "Thirty days and either I will return for you, or I will send one of my men back here for you."
"Why do you smooth out my clothing?" she asked him, "Not that your efforts go unnoticed or unappreciated, it is just rather curious." She'd explain urgently.
"Because my mother taught me to do so." Valdr would say casually. "Like myself and my father, she was also a knight, but both taught me the importance of being a gentleman."
Valdr had already been seated as they spoke and figured she just wanted to enjoy the cool night air some. "Women, can be whatever they have the will to be. Same as men." He offered with a shrug.
He would look towards the city at her question. "Your father is a greedy man. You're a problem. He'd part with you for silver, but something tells me he will shoot for gold."
She nodded at his statement. "He would, and a cow, a fluffy cow from up north to be specific. He loves those little buggers, nothing he wouldn't do for one of them." She said giggling. It was a saddening thought to leave those memories behind the few good ones.
"Thank you." She said to the knight earnestly. "For a night I have felt like a normal girl."
(OCC: Sorry I thought it'd be a fun idea to smash my finger between a table and a chair and ended up breaking it, so typing wasn't a friend for a bit.)
