Taagi Baara Steppes - West
Thren scowled slightly as he peered down into the small valley below.
Bright blue eyes swept over hundreds of corpses, dozens of different banners, and men doing the last of the dirty work of the small skirmish. Their task was a grim one, and the Barbarian did not envy them. 'Clean up' as the officers called it was not something one enjoyed, unless they were twisted beyond humanity.
Sitting on the small perch of a rock atop a grassy hill Thren couldn't help but shake his head. He was far enough from the battlefield not to hear any of the more gruesome noises, but he could see the Soldiers he'd fought alongside slowly working their way across the landscape.
The enemy had been quick, brutal in their attack, but ultimately their side had prevailed.
It was only the start of things of course, a small skirmish that would eventually turn into something much bigger.
He'd known that when he'd signed on with Lord Balfallas' army. The contract had been good though, and the allure of exceptional pay and a decent campaign had brought Thren and others in droves.
Of course, that didn't make it any easier to stomach the sight of execution.
Still, it was the way of things. Lord Balfallas had a mission; Pacify the Steppes, or at least a part of them. From what Thren had heard the noble was originally from Vel Anir, member of a Minor House who was seeking a kingdom for himself.
His army was certainly big enough, but the largest challenge was yet to come. The group that they had faced down today was a splinter from a much bigger force controlled by a local Warlord. That fight would hit them in two days, and it would test the true mettle of this army.
