He'd been forced to watch his son grow up, a Pure Blood Vampire, from a distance. He hated the situation, but it had become a security risk if he attempted to get close and others would try to hurt him as a result. So he observed from a distance...so as not to put his son in danger.
He knew the grand library was dimply lit, it was how his people of the night preferred it.
He could somehow still read books despite being blind...

So he read well into the night trying to find his next move as a Vampire Lord...he was thrust into an unkind way of life.
