Private Tales What Wolves Hide Their Teeth?

A private roleplay only for those invited by the first writer
He managed to behave... enough. Hands loosened, one remained at her hip while the other lifted to push his own hair from his face, revealing the charmingly mischievous grin he'd given the shop keep as she waggled her finger to step away once more.

The grin remained, but he put his pointed canines away for something a bit more warm and fond for Vi.

"Maybe not, but I'm sure a Lady can have as many as she wants."

Need and want... was having that choice not the main differentiator between those of means and those without?

"I would like you even if you wore a potato sack," he murmured back at her, leaning in to playfully nip at her ear through her hair before pulling himself away to take up one of the chairs. When the shop keep returned again he caught her eye and look no less chastised for her humor. Rather, he looked well pleased with himself.

He left her to stand with a hot flush as he made her heart beat erratically, and even the coldness that clung to her now that he moved away from her, nothing stopped the need for wanting him close again.

Vittoria turned to stare at him, not seeing the store owner now become the seamstress she was.

"Right, coat off, I will need to take your measurements now."

Vittoria approached Kilien as she shed her coat, throwing it the distance so that it landed on him. "Hold onto this for me, will you Kilien?" She smiled, but turned back so that the seamstress began measuring. She noted down all the numbers and areas measured, made notes of how tall Vittoria was and how poised she was in stature.

"The gala is soon, no? Tomorrow night, or was it the night after? A design I have in mind is quite elegant, nothing too frivolous in design but the studded bead work will be the eye catching part. Here, imagine this." The seamstress took out a new page and began to work a design, showed Vittoria the very aged brass beads she intended to use.

Vittoria smiled, seeing the vision. "Whatever fee you name, I am sure you will have earned the right to be compensated."

"Oh, sweetheart, give me until midday tomorrow where you can come in for a fitting and we will finalise it then! Now! You two are much too young to waste time here, leave your order here with me and I will see to it that it is done. You two lovebirds should go on the climb, find the fairy garden. Quaint little spot, might be dark by the time you get there, but perfect view of the city and the river!"

Vittoria turned to Kilien, a brow arching. "What do you say?"

The jacket landed splayed across him, partially covering his face. He did not immediately remove it, but instead sat there smiling to himself.

"As you wish," his muffled voice sounded from under the coat before he slowly lifted a hand to pull it away from his face ... but not before taking a moment to drown himself in her scent. To his credit, he sat quietly and made no further mischief. Musings and daydreams, mostly of himself and Vi, took over his mind while she made the painstaking process of selecting the perfect fabrics in the best colors. No doubt whatever the Modiste made for her would look splendid.

He could not recall seeing her dressed in anything that did not.

"What do you say?"

He definitely had not been paying attention, but Vittoria looked intrigued and even somewhat excited. How could he say no?

"Absolutely," Kilien smiled. Whatever it was he agreed to was surely worth the mystery. He pushed himself up from the chair, took a moment to straighten out which way was up with her jacket, and held it open to assist her redressing it.

"Maybe if you have time to make a matching vest or tie?" he asked of the seamstress, "Something subtle."

"Green would look lovely on you, Killy." Vittoria stared at him a moment before the seamstress wandered over to him and wound her measuring tape around his neck and measured his chest.

"A flattering colour on him, I would say. You mentioned he would wear black? Gods, you two would be quite the pair at that gala." She smiled, noting down measurements for his tie on her parchment. "Warms my heart you young ones have such adoration for one another. Takes me back to my youth when I met my husband." She waved her hand, chuckling. "Well, that is all I need from you both today. Come back midday tomorrow, yes?"

Vittoria held Kilien's hand as they once again wandered the streets. This time, they ascended the steep streets slowly and made their way to the gardens that overlooked the city. The views on the walk up were magnificent, reminding her of another city she had visited that was built into the mountainside. That city was just a skeleton of a place now, after Erodin and herself turned it upside down to smoke out any traitors of Vel Anir.

Elbion, however, was peaceful. Even as the last rays still clung to the sky, the welcoming blanket of stars splashed across the midnight blue shone brightly.

"The moon is almost full." She breathed, once they reached the gardens and took a seat on a bench that overlooked the city and river.

He did not need reminding of the phase of the moon. Kilien knew it in his bones. Could tell just how many days or weeks he had from a full moon even if he were locked underground. It was an innate sense. A ticking timepiece, counting down.

The concern about this was not lost from him. It remained, even present in the back of his mind while the rest of his thoughts centered around far more interesting things.

"Mmhm," he replied, not even bothering to look. Didn't need to. Could see it whenever he closed his eyes.

Feel its pulse against the tides in his blood.

Kilien covered up a twitch of his head as he heeled mentally against the itch of instincts by lifting a hand to run through his hair. The walk up here hadn't winded him in the slightest. In fact he was feeling the desperate need for a long, long run.

His hand found her thigh and there it rested, squeezing gently as he turned his attention from the one thing he did not want to look at, to the only thing he wanted to see more of. Hazel eyes looked her over, brow knitting faintly as his other hand lifted to brush hair from her face, "Elbion looks good on you."

Vittoria turned to look up at Kilien. The compliment he gave her stirred something inside her. She could not determine if it was pride or not. Leaning into him, Vittoria craned her neck to whisper near his ear. "And you too. This has been quite a... glimpse into a future that could happen in another life."

One could not achieve the rank of Archon by residing in Elbion. That was all she wanted to do, to achieve that title to her name and was willing to put in the years at working towards it. Vittoria frowned, sensing a strangeness of sadness filling her at the thought of there not being enough time to spend here with Kilien.

Graduation loomed ahead, some time in the future once those in charge could deem a final decision of how to let it all play out.

"This is one of the most beautiful cities I have visited." She declared, pushing away such thoughts and focused on the present. "And I am most happy that you are here beside me to explore it with." Her eyes looked around them. The gardens were deserted, and a path lead off one way. She nodded towards it. "Shall we explore more of it?"

Sometimes he really hated how she brought up the inevitability of their departure from one another. Like the moon, he didn't need a reminder of the time between them slowly ticking away. It brought to light just how much he truly felt for her.

With anyone else, he would have rushed into things in order to take advantage of the time they had left.

Vittoria didn't deserve to be rushed, nor did he want to. She was a rare, fine vintage and even if he did not get to savor the entire bottle, he would savor every drop given him. From quiet talks in an Elbion garden terrace to nights spent falling asleep snuggled against her while she pored over texts for classes. He'd regret nothing.

But he'd also not deny walking with her through a dark garden pathway if she so desired.

Elbion provided plenty of opportunity for spending the time together.

"Let's shall," his smile stretched his beard as he took up her hand in his own and stood, purposefully replying with improper grammar, "there might be snipicks and grumpkins in the dark, but don't worry I know just the spell to keep them away."

Because Vittoria was still without her magic, though he suspected that by now some of her mana may have begun to trickle back. Mostly he just liked to pretend that she needed protection at all. She didn't, but he'd do it anyway. Off he lead her through an arch of roses and into a beautifully manicured pathway through trees and flowers.

Vittoria held onto his hand in a tight grip, for if she was ignoring the sand falling in the glass of time, her body was not going to let her forget.

"A spell?" She mused, leaning into him as they both took on a slow walking pace. "I think I would like to see this. You certainly have a way of wielding this magic." A comment about using his wand had been on the tip of her tongue, but she knew Kilien well enough now to know the sort of comment he would make in return.

Just knowing that fact made her smile and a small laugh escaped her.

Beneath the night soaked canopy of arching branches and leaves, Vittoria pulled him to a stop. "Wait a moment." They stood in darkness, but the night was still. No sound of any animal, but just the slight wind and the sounds of the city below reaching them in the higher areas of Elbion.

Vittoria stared up at Kilien.

"This moment... there is no duty. No looming war we must not forget about. No classes, no classmates... All I have is you, and I wish to say... I..." Despite all she said just now, despite the time she spent in her own thoughts while he had slept... Vittoria knew what it was that she felt for him. She read plenty of books and stories, had recalled the way her father spoke of her mother and how he realised she was the one to teach him what that affection was...

Despite all of that, of knowing the information, Vittoria had been too set in her ways. She had been taught to suppress such a thing, but she proved by now it did not make her weak.

"I do not know... how to say it." Her eyes searched his, a need to say it near overwhelming. "About how I feel for you, Kilien Basmarc."

He stopped readily, attention shifting to her, moony eyes reflecting light that should not have been in the darkness of their pathway. His senses picked up on a war of emotions within her, though on the outside she looked rather calm.

With all their time spent together, Kilien could tell she was anxious. Discomforted with herself. Hiding something. His immediate instinct was to comfort her and tell her that she didn't need to say anything that did not come forth willingly. But her reminder of their time running out and the deep want for her in his veins pushed that empathetic malarky aside.

He knew what she was tripping over and he wanted her to say it.

Needed her to say it.

Kilien turned to her and closed the distance between them, skull craning until his forehead rested against her and the coils of his hair tickled at the sides of her face.

"I think you do," the words were quiet but held a low rumble to them, not a threat but an insistence. Now was not the time to discover cowardice.

"Tell me."

Please.

The way he looked at her, she could see how he knew what she was struggling with. That perhaps he had been wanting to hear her say it for a while now, that it was important she be the one to say it. He had always left everything up to her, not just out of respect, but because he was understanding of her.

Vittoria drew in a shaky breath, but her eyes did not waver from his intense gaze.

"Tell me."

She drew closer to him, needing his warmth to help bolster her resolve. Her lips parted, ready to speak. "Kilien... for some time now... I have come to know that my feelings for you are a rarity." She needed to say all of this, before those words could bind things between them. Hands came to rest on his chest, fingers curling to grip at his jacket as pushed him back so that he did not strain his neck from reaching down to her face.

She wanted to see his entire face the moment she told him.

"I have never thought I would feel like this for anyone. Never thought anyone would be worthy... but you did it. You found a way past it all. My defenses, my opinions, my way of life... You taught me things that made me feel like a young woman that was not just a weapon in another's chessboard of a war." Vittoria pushed him back, until his back pressed against a tree. She stood close, following him. "These words, I know I will never say to another soul. How could I when you have changed me to someone I am beginning to like. All of this... all of you... Kilien, I love you. Every part of you."

Her fingers held his jacket tightly, forming fists as she pulled herself closer. Her breaths were shaken, her heart pulsing quickly with the adrenaline of lowering every wall and defense she ever built... all so that she could finally let him in at last.

This was by far the pushiest admission of love he'd ever heard of. Kilien didn't take love lightly, even if he fell fast and hard himself. His life prior to entering the Academy two years ago hadn't exactly provided many opportunities for ... lasting relations. He'd gotten by with brothel visits or the odd one-nighter with a farmer's daughter in the hayloft...

...or a Dreadlord in the Falwood.

But none of the stories he'd heard of or read had produced something like this. He supposed it was only fitting. Vittoria wasn't like everyone else. She was her own person and she was in control of herself and her life (to a point). This might have verged into that gray area where she'd somehow lost control and maybe she was upset about that. Being someone else's punching bag to get out their frustrations was nothing new to him and Kilien would more than willingly allow Vittoria to use him that way if it made her feel even a smidgen better.

She could have started stabbing him with his own dagger during this monologue of emotion and he wouldn't have taken it any worse.

His feet gave ground and his eyes remained locked on hers while she unfolded the thousand-folds paper swan that was her lovesong. In his chest his heart began to beat like a war drum, egged on by concussion of his back against bark. When those three words finally left her lips, he felt a surge of emotion rise through his chest and crash against his better sensibilities. Overwhelming happiness bloomed behind his ribs, stinging into his eyes and threatening to form tears.

For several long moments, he froze, he stopped breathing, he just stared at her and took her in. All trembles and fists and shaky breath and staccato heartbeat of her. When he finally remembered to breath again he was so overcome by his own emotion that he could not even bring himself to say it back even though he felt it.

He'd felt it for a while now, but he'd always been a person of action over words.

His arms reached forward, pulling her back in for a tight embrace that he could nuzzle into her hair and finally release the breath he'd been holding as near a gasp of relief as anything. He wasn't sure they'd make it to this point before the world tore them apart and now he wasn't sure if it was a good thing or not.

Better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all... that's what they say.

The fuck did they know?

He pressed a strong kiss against her temple and decided not to let the future ruin the moment, "You're... just..." perfect, he thought as he kissed the side of her head again and squeezed her once more in his arms, "say it again," he mumbled with a smile.

In his embrace, she was safe. She could feel his affection as his arms wrapped around her and pulled her in. In his embrace, she could feel all her tension leave her. In his embrace, Vittoria began to soften and wrap her arms around his neck to rest against him.

She felt safe enough to come undone, to let the flood of emotions rush on through as they held one another in this embrace. He had already witnessed her eyes give way to tears, but instead, she breathed her way out of it. All she could smell was him, and it held a certain quality to it that she could not help but take a few more inhalations of him. It brought her a sense of peace and contentment.

Say it again.

Vittoria lifted her head, kissing his jaw once before lingering by his ear. "I love you, Kilien Basmarc." And she wanted to say it again and again. This ache she felt now was a need, one she needed to get out. Being gentle was new to her, but she did not know how to approacb a gentleness she was not accustomed to. And so Vittoria simply took from him. A hand gripped his jaw and moved his face towards her, so that their eyes could meet as she closed the distance.

"I love you." A whisper before she claimed his lips.

Gods... those whispered words in his ear could make him go weak in the knees if his blood wasn't singing with his curse's ramped-up power right now. Why couldn't they have had this conversation and reverie in a week's time? The hand on his jaw, tugging at him to make eye contact elicited a low rumble from deep within his chest.

She may have claimed his lips after that but he could feel his own control beginning to slip. His arms curled, one clutching around her waist to pull her up to him while the other shifted toward her shoulders. There his hand came to clutch the back of her neck, grasping to hold her against him as he reciprocated and deepened the kiss.

Vitt had said before she hadn't quite preferred this, but he could not help himself and he wanted to taste her.

Everything felt right in this moment. She did not need to hear him say the words when Kilien had always made her feel this way for him. To tell him the exact feeling she experienced for him was just a confirmation that he created a world for her to exist in where she could learn to be softer than the weapon she had been shaped into.

And so her tears fell. Not from sadness nor overwhelm, but from being unearthed as Vittoria Larrainth, a young women that came from some place and with no duty she was bound to yet.

In this quiet and in this dark, Vittoria would pause life for a moment to memorise this. How she felt this strange feeling that turned into a blossom, and it only felt right to let the petals unfurl at night. How many times did they lay down to stare at the stars? To try and determine where in the sky the new moon was. Even without full use of her magic, she still felt safe beside him.

"You are... the most surprising thing I have ever known in my life." She rested her lips against his as she took a pause from the kiss that made body feel weightless. "And I am glad to have something that changed me." A soft kiss pressed against his lips before another, and another, and Vittoria claimed him for a lingering kiss again.

The grip on her neck loosened, allowing his fingers to shift up into her hair and over her scalp as she continued to speak into his lips. Words that soothed the hunger - truths and the unburdening of secret thoughts holding a strange balm against his wants. To be loved was certainly powerful.

His other hand smoothed across her back, stroking and petting as he leaned back against the tree, now finding the will to simply enjoy her affections rather than devour her whole.

"Mmm," he smiled, squeezing her again into the kiss, "I for one am glad you learned how to catch blueberries in your mouth."

It was a necessary skill. Everyone should know how to do it.

"And whisper sweet nothings to me ..." he said between kisses, his hand at her back now venturing south, "what else can I teach you..."

There were plenty of things he could think of, but he knew that was mostly his moon-mind talking.

Mostly.

"I know," Kilien nuzzled his nose against hers, "billiards."

This moment was their own and no one would come down this path at this time. Vittoria felt at ease to lean into this security of safety Kilien gave her.

A giggle left her, her body shaking lightly from it. "Billiards?" She pulled her head back to narrow her gaze and search his gaze. "That does not sound like a real word."

But he had taught her all those things and more. Once, she had felt as if she missed out on a life, one that did not prepare her for being a coveted weapon. She learned how to let down some defenses, to enjoy fun in it's literal sense and not her own perversion of it by taunting classmates.

Vittoria cupped his cheek, her thumb smoothing over his beard. "You taught me how to love, do not forget that on your list." Her voice soft, insistent, as if she did not want him to forget the significance that he had a role in that. Her expression began to steel itself as she watched him. "Never forget it, Kilien."

"I swear it is..." he grinned, a chuckle joining her own small laughs, and squeezed at her hip for good measure.

Eyes closing against the touch on his face, Kilien leaned into her hand, his own along her neck coming to rest, to draw small circles at the base of her skull with his thumb. When his eyes opened again, they were soft despite the light within them, watching her with a fondness he'd never had for anyone else.

"Never," Kilien whispered back. She didn't have to command it, he never would forget such a thing.

He turned into her hand to kiss at her palm, wanting after her touches and soft words like a child wanted after sweets. He was addicted and simply couldn't ever have his fill.

"You..." he kissed her hand again, shifting his from her hair to the hand on his face and holding it so he could continue trailing kisses along her wrist and arm, "make ... my heart ... sing." His other arm cinched her against him at the waist as his lips progressed up toward her shoulder.

Vittoria liked the feel of his lips kissing parts of her that never had been kissed before, but Kilien had done so many times now she knew the paths he followed. Even when his kisses were along her coat, she felt the memory of them on her flesh from all the times before. Intimacy was one thing, to express and voice love and affection was another.

"This heart..." Her other hand slipped from his shoulder and pressed against where his heart lay beneath. She felt the erratic beating, wanting her to hear it. Feeling how quickly it worked, Vittoria herself began to feel her own beating to the same rhythm. "I love that I can make it react like this."

For he did the same to her. She could no longer deny that he was a joy she wanted to keep. Sink her nails into and pull him close so that he would not drift away.

Would this not hurt her in the end? The harder she fell for him, the harder it will be to recover?

Vittoria did not want to think of all of that. Did not want her own mind to ruin her happiness.

"Will you... take me back to our lodgings?" She whispered. Tentatively, as his kisses slowed towards her shoulder. "Where I can... where you can have me?" Once the ball was rolling down the hill, it gained speed quickly. There were not many days to spend in Elbion, where she wanted it to last forever. If this was the only chance they got without the Academy sending them off and away for a time... "If... you wish to."
